  1. .So I was thinking, what are some ways that we could rethink cooling for supercomputers, I propose 3 ideas that came to my mind. It was actually my first thought that was most crazy and the third is more realistic but here they are. Idea #1 - Subaquatic Deep Sea, Water Cooled Super Computer Ok image a large submarine deep down in the that intakes large supplies of very cold water and easily expels it away upwards into currents. Small Ps. i even thought it could be nuclear powered and and just be super powerfully, this also applies to the next idea Idea #2 - Use the Cold Cold Vacuum of Space This one explains it self. After I first thought edit it I figured this just already be used on the ISS but I found that the first supercomputer in space was out up let year and only did on teraflop. But what if we could shield the CPUs and GPUs from radiation but open then up to the frigid vacuum of space. Think of the ease of cooling. The other option in space is using them to heat the living quarters or any other areas requiring heat but that isn't as cool. Idea #3 - Great Canadian North. Linus are you paying attention Why hasn't either someone privately out even our government putting any thought into using the natural for of caffeine winter to cool their data centers. just build outdoor weather proof data centers and supercomputers. Does anyone know if any of this are being used or maybe have failed for what ever reason? Can you think of other kind of crazy ways to cool a computer. Maybe this kind of thing is what they need to do to further quantum computing. Big ps. I don't know how long is been since I was on the site on mobile. It really is beautiful. One of the best looking mobile forums I've used and the best to write in for sure
  2. I would love to be able to get my fiancée a WIIU because she wants to play video games and is interested but still wants something quick and easy to pick up, we have played some great wiiu games at friends and she really loves it. She loves to play video games but doesn't have anything to play on of her own. This would make her christmas very amazing as we are both saving and looking forward to our wedding happening in January and as such do not have much money to spend on eachother, or ourselves for christmas. Wii U (or ps4)for My Beautiful Fiancée ps it is instock in canadian amazon for less then 300 USD http://www.amazon.ca/Nintendo-Mario-Deluxe-Bundle-Included/dp/B011XO54MA/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1449988937&sr=1-2&keywords=wii+u This is a ps4 that evidently is cheaper (?) and would be just as appricated by her and is actually on amazon.com. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01574SORE/ref=s9_acss_bw_lb_stt_1_2_d?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-3&pf_rd_r=0VMAEGCV58CH2WE5BT8F&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=2328421342&pf_rd_i=6427871011
  3. you can still technically use plaex to serve the media to kodi around your house also, kodi just works really well as a client and interface and it does have serving capabilities of its own for Lan that work really well Kodi is kind of the orginal and free opensource version with more bells and wilstles but a little less polish, its versitile and free,
  4. Kodi can do movies, music, pictures, and can also launch external apllications like steam, which if launched in big picture mode, can can then stream games. Kodi, In my Opinion has a better front end and looks nicer, and is more customizable and works great for sharing on LAN (not out tho then plex has them beat) Plex originally was built from Kodi. Kodi works as a really great tenfoot interface for everything you could ever want a computer to do in a livingroom, and scales really well all the way down to phones. Last time i checked out plex its interface was pretty lacking, but I havent tried it for any length of time for a while
  5. Ok, So depending how hardcore you would want to go there a few options. My recomendation is to use kodi and steam on a well speced gaming rig with a nas to store your media. You could build a highend gaming rig and run it as a nas server, or in addtion to the nas. You could use Kodi for an amazing way to present your media around the house, or plex for going outside your LAN. building a good large storage nas with a few TB with raid will be a huge benifit, and then run kodi on your gaming rig. Kodi works really well, its open source and you can leave it up and have a place to launch steam big picture mode. streaming Games is pretty easy with steam. If you use a nas you can add it to kodi on the gaming rig and then kodi can easily be used to serve your LAn with media, including stop and play in anther room, watched and un watched and pretty much anything you would need, it also runs on almost anything these days. Your other option would be loosing the games and just have a file nas with plex
  6. Yes I recognize that a discreete GPU would be better, but I don't have the money for a good one right now per ce. How big of an upgrade will i get from the old a6 t the new a10, I will still probably get a gpu in the distant future.
  7. Bump. One of the biggest things I want to know how powerful the a10 is for current games. I currently have a trinity a6 6420k and I think right now I would optimally want to just upgrade to a godvari 10-7870k and looking ot hear what kind of an upgrade that willl actually be.
  8. Hello, I have this current Build, along with lots of extra storage, and hooked up to a 1080p 39 inch TV. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: AMD A6-6420K 4.0GHz Dual-Core OEM/Tray Processor Motherboard: Asus A88XM-A Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard ($54.99 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: Team Vulcan 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($69.98 @ OutletPC) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($124.00 @ Amazon) Case: Cougar Spike MicroATX Mini Tower Case ($0.00) Power Supply: Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 460W ATX Power Supply Optical Drive: LG GH24NSB0 DVD/CD Writer ($0.00) Total: $248.97 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-11-23 09:57 EST-0500 I have been fairly happy with this as an HTPC, and it has served me well but I had always intended on doing some updrages when I bought the Asus A88XM-A Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard. Location and Budget I am Canadian, and with our dollar right now really do need Canadian prices/retailers, in years past it wouldnt have been so big but it is now, I do not have a large budget at most id have a 300$ CAD for upgrades Aim The main purpose is being used as an HTPC, which it already fulfills well. But right now I am deciding weather I want to upgrade this rig for light or hardcore gaming, or weather I want to buy a PS4. Monitors and Peripherals I have a 1080p 39 inchHDTV lots of external storage, that is about it.. Reasons for Upgrading I currently Run linux with Kodi, and I have a few small games and lots of emulators running. I always love emulators and would love better performance there. I am llooking to either upgrade just my APU to highend APU or getting a GPU If I decide against a console I would like to be able to play current games hopefully on high- ultra if I go as far a GPU or high if I get just an APU with 60 fps hopefully Realistically, If I upgraded to a: A10-7870K Would I be able to achieve high on current games? If not at all, then what kind of GPU and cpu upgrade would you recomend I need a karvari or Godvari cpu to use PCIe 3.0 I think and right now I have an a6 trinity I think I would prefer Nvidia, only because the currrent OS is Linux but I do duel boot for games so its not needed I have looked at some GTX950s or GTX750Ti and R9 380s and r7 380 but don't know if they are really needed. Also What do emulators (ps1 N64, DS PSP WII) actually rely more on, would do wants current games but emulators are what I currently do and I get 25 fps on N64, would love more lol,
