  1. Aw I previously had a Core 2 Duo E7400 that would also lag in smoke or when there were to many players. I thought that buying the highest end LGA 775 CPU that I could find would fix these problems. Disappointed. Well, at least it doesn't stutter as much as before. And I do get to 200+ fps sometimes. Thanks for the help guys!
  2. Everything is already set to low. I don't find any smoke effects option there.
  3. I know this is an old rig, but I get 100+ fps in CS:GO at all low 800x600 res. FPS drops to about 40 near smoke, or when flashed. Is it the CPU or the GPU? Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83 GHz NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT OC'ed 3 GB RAM DDR2
  4. Already did. Still happened. What's odd is that I didn't need to add more voltage before, everything was set to auto and it ran fine.
  5. Here's the story: I got a new Q9550 to replace my E7400. So I put it in, and it worked. I overclocked it instantly, set the multiplier to 8 and the FSB to 400. It booted up fine, and I played CS:GO with it. No crashes, etc. But I was getting unusually low frame-rates for a quad-core (70-90, same fps as my previous processor). So I removed it, checked to see the pins, and one pin was bent. I was surprised that it even worked. So I fixed the bent pin using a needle, replaced everything back, and everything was back in track. The FPS skyrocketed to 150+ fps, even reaching 200+. But it still dropped to 40 near smoke, so I went back to the BIOS to overclock. Set the multiplier again to 8 and FSB to 400. Now, when I boot the PC up, the artifacts just pop out, the OS stops responding, then... BSOD. Can anyone tell me what the underlying issue is? Mobo is an ASUS P5KPL-AM EPU. PSU is a 500W Powerlogic.
  6. No, I was pretty sure I fixed one. It was obviously bent, so I bent it back. It was just one pin.
  7. What would have better performance? Wouldn't I be wasting RAM with 32-bit on 4 GB?
  8. If I upgrade the RAM to 4 GB, what should I use?
  9. I have a Q9550 and I decided to overclock it to 400 MHz FSB (x8.0). All of a sudden, when I boot the PC up, artifacts appear our of nowhere. then the GPU driver fails, then BSOD. Can someone please explain why? When I it overclocked, it wasn't like this, but I was pretty sure it wasn't stable as well (just set it to 400 and nothing like this happened, but I never ran any stress test). After that, I removed my CPU, cleaned it, fixed a bent CPU socket pin, replaced it, put thermal paste, then replaced the fan. Then this occurred. Do you think I could have bent some other pins when I replaced the CPU back, or maybe it is another issue?
  10. Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83 GHz nVIDIA GeForce 9400GT 3 GB DDR2 RAM Windows 7 or Windows 10? 32-bit or 64-bit? Might upgrade to 4 GB of RAM soon.
  11. You're telling me that I should avoid using the 3 GB of mixed RAM even though it is higher in capacity compared to the 2 GB dual-channel one? Can you please explain why?
  12. The mixed RAM does work. The 800 is just underclocked to 667.
  13. A single stick of 2 GB Kingston DDR2-800 vs Dual-channel 2 GB Kingston DDR2-667 (two 1GB DIMMs) vs Mixed 1 stick 2 GB Kingston DDR2-800 and 1 GB Kingston DDR2-667 (completely different RAM, just same brand, it does work but I dunno of its stability)
  14. Core 2 Quad Q9550 9400GT 2 GB DDR2 I was thinking of running Win7 x64, but many people say I should stick to x86 because of the RAM. Is there really such a difference between the memory usage of the two? Please no upgrade suggestions.
