  1. got a few months to figure this out, while not a linux noob not experience enough for scripts and this R you are talking about
  2. I have a couple csv files that I would like to sort, remove duplicates, split and add as more data is generated example data data data 1 data data data data 2 data data data data 5 data data data data 10000 data I know I can combine these and do what I want manually but my understanding is it combines into 1 large file then splits is there a way to split the files now, run a command and add more data in later? example 1-500.csv data data data 1 data data data data 2 data future input future input data data data 5 data future after this 501-1000.csv nothing would be here yet until some data is generated were column 4 would have some # between 501-1000 1001-1500.csv and so on.everything is empty 9501-10000 only 1 line and would be the last one data data data 10000 data I get some new.csv files and in it is data data data 345 data, program would see this and add it to the 1-500.csv only data data data 5 data, program sees this is already in the 1-500.csv and deletes the line. the data could have potentially billions of lines and don't want to combine everything, sort, remove, split as new data needs to get entered. time consuming, potentially massive file.
  3. depending on the setup it might just be a "dummy modem" just pass through everything. customer will get there own equipment after that. I know my isp has that option on both there DSL to a certain speed and fiber working some "unsupported" setup. unsupported is they will not come support anything if you use your own equipment and only responsible up to the ONT. contact your isp and ask how you are setup. if it is truly just a dummy modem then a router is all you need.
  4. as someone who works with dsl line quality is key. To far away, to many taps, inside line issues. corrosion on line. This list can go on.
  5. I have an issue with my norco 4224 case and detecting 1 drive I thought it might have been the backplane. moved from the bottom that had the issue to the top and didn't fix it moved from 1 raid card to another raid card and also didn't fix it took the drive out and connected it to my windows machine. found it no problem connected it to the server sata port and power works. I did notice when I removed it from my unraid machine it was not spinning. yet powered up on both the windows and server sata port it is a shucked 6tb white drive. there are 3 others in the server that work just fine. Each back plane is feed from a 4 pin molex. I have a new cable from raid card to backplane on order. will need some for my 2nd nas build in the future
  6. just wondering, a typical NIC in a laptop/pc, can one set it to vlan 1000 or 3000? my isp fiber uses that for internet
  7. not exactly, my isp offers 5,10 and 25. Always get the speed or slightly more how are testing the speed? to do a true speed test only 1 device and a hardwired connection
  8. is your computer off when you get the 100mbps? I know some equipment defaults to 100mbps according to the router if it is on check your cable, all 4 pairs need to be in use
  9. is it even possible to run Ethernet cable to a central location? while moca ok in some situations you cant beat a Ethernet connection.
  10. thought I saw pcie 1x speed in a x16 slot
  11. ebay motherboard I have always wanted a gpu setup for non mining purpose. Now everything is 1x and don't know if that will meet my needs. never less
  12. should have said looking for bulk cable. Future proofing my house and in the near future will be transferring large amounts of files from one portable setup to another.
  13. were is a good place to order some good quality but decent priced 10gb cable and keystone jacks. Live in Canada so want something that ships within Canada.
  14. can you log into the router? if that ethernet is active you should get an ip you can see on the main page. Also some have an indicator light that says connected to internet. Got feeling you are not connecting up the right cable
  15. is there a wan port on the asus? this is comming from the fios equipment. Maybe you need to set the vlan on the asus router. My fiber isp you need to do this
  16. you own the asus router? isn't fios cable internet? is the coax connected to the asus?
  17. I have a iptv service from my isp. It works provincce wide but there are some restrictions as it needs to come from my home location. Could I use some sort of VPN setup to trick the box into thinking it is located from home?
  18. I have been looking at telus allowing nokia gpon sfp adapters to work the issue is this, isp mine at least does not want the customer to mess with the fiber itself. fragile and costly to fix. I know of cases were customers cut the fiber right at the wall. isp goes to hook up the customer again or a new one and has to fish in a new line. Sometimes not as nice as before Customer expects it to be just like the old copper, can't you just spice with the 1/2 inch of fiber left? I would love to skip the ont/power supply as I just have internet and nothing else. Then there is the issue with dial tone on fiber. Battery backup in case power goes out.
  19. I could probably use linux and drop windows 10, only thing is I would like to keep the option to put it back on if needed. laptop that didn't come with any sort of recovery. is it possible?
  20. can be a pain, try a different channel, is the router on the most current FW this could be a good LTT video, how to possibly solve your wifi issues.
  21. so many things can cause issues, its wifi do you have something to read the signal strength? like a phone or tablet how many devices are connected? how many of them are wireless? have tried temp changing the ssid/password and only connecting the device that is having problem? have been dealing with a lot of wifi issues lately. if still having issues try unplugging stuff like android boxes or other things.
  22. now that I think about it doesn't bell have a media converter with the 1.5gbps internet package?
  23. with our gpon network one could use there own equipment past the ONT. Need to set the wan to vlan1000 there is a catch, past the ONT is all on you. If we show up and you have your own equipment we just test the ONT and leave
  24. cat7 is future proof. Those flat ones I have herd is garbage, also depending on the area you might need some special coated cat7 due to fire regulations. taking my isp/tv providers coax company, 1 coax run. though they can use ethernet for there boxes satellite 1-2 depending on provider and hardware. iptv provider, recommend 2 runs to separate the iptv packets and regular internet packets. What I did is this 4 cat6 runs to all possible tv locations. Main tv locations got an extra run for smart tv function 2 coax runs all connected to a patch panel in basement, I also have various other runs in house for AP and future needs like a computer in the garage to research stuff like how to fix my car. Your usb question. using the keystone is not a good idea for charging. I have several of those built in chargers in a power outlet. I got the leviton ones and have been great so far. The keystone You are probably going to have a issue over a certain distance. I did look at this at one point. HDMI also has a distance issue. Sure there are special one way cables that have a transmit and receive end you need to install right. If you are serious and have the budget you need a HDMI over ethernet option like hdbaset. the newer standard has usb and ethernet in 1 ethernet cable. your dual router can work but will also cause issues if not setup right. You want a router and switches. Adding AP to cover dead spots in your house is preferred. I have unifi and a still use my isp gateway to just manage the data. I also believe the google wifi has a separate wifi network to communicate to each other. Works but like I said above if you can do a harwired AP you wont regret it, it is also POE so the switch will have to be a poe capable.
