    ping issue

hi, i just built my PC about a month ago, and it's been working perfectly. the only strange thing that's been happening is that when i'm playing the new Unreal Tournament game my ping is going up to 250ms in the pre-game stage and when i'm waiting to respawn. during gameplay it goes down to 60ms or so. this has only been happening for about 2 or 3 days maybe. before that my ping would constantly stay between 20ms and 80ms. the only thing i've done in that time is install two anti virus programs, Avast Premium and Malware Bytes Premium. I got the full paid versions, not the free versions. maybe the firewalls have something to do with this problem? i made a post on the Unreal Tournament forums as well, but i figured i'd see what you guys have to say about it as well. thanks for any input. EDIT: nevermind, i seem to have fixed it. there was an extra cable plugged into my router that wasn't attached to anything. i unplugged it and my ping went back to normal. i 'd like to delete this thread if possible.
  2. also, you said you use 400 dpi, but this page with the specs for that mouse says it can only do 450, 1150, 2300 dpi. can you adjust it in more ways than it's supposed to be adjusted or something? http://www.zowiegear.com/index.php?i=product&p=17
  3. dude, awesome! thanks for the info! also, how do you like those Zowie mice? i've been considering getting my first gaming mouse and i like the simple yet effective style that those Zowie mice have.
  4. i guess i used to just think that higher DPI was better, but i just watched a youtube video where a competitive CS:GO player said he uses 400 DPI. (400, not 4000). what?
  5. afterburner will work just as well with any card? it just work best with MSI cards?
  6. yea i know what you mean, i have a ASUS mobo too.... isn't there supposed to be a way to shut off those LEDs in the bios?
  7. shut off the PSU when the computer is off, or just leave it on? is there a benefit or a drawback to either of these?
  8. i bought a NZXT S340 from micro center about a week ago. the Yellow and Black is a micro center exclusive. they were sold out though, at least at the store i was at.
  9. hey guys, just built my first gaming PC a couple days ago, i'm really happy with it. i've never tried to overclock, but i know that i will someday. for the time being, i'm curious about how you guys keep track of your temperature? and i don't know when is the right time to get more case fans? i just have the fans that came standard (only two).
  10. i certainly wouldn't purchase either of them. i think i'm just going to get rainbow six and try it out for a little while. it's free, so whatever.
  11. it's a 250gb SSD. and no i guess i'm not "worried"... perhaps "uninformed" or "clueless" are better words to describe how i feel about it. i didn't really know what the purpose of an SSD was until shortly before i bought it.
  12. I just build my first custom PC, and i got windows 10 installed on the SSD. accidentally installed google chrome on there too, i meant to put that on my HDD, but it's pretty small so i don't really care. now i have it set up so that anything i download from windows chrome goes straight to my 1TB HDD. i just installed my first game, Unreal Tournament 4, but i put it on my HDD. i'm not sure if i should have put that game on my SSD though? should i put all my games on my SSD? none of them? some of them? anything else besdies game and my OS? thanks guys
