  1. Possibly something like this, but maybe with an amplifier in between to put some extra juice in the signal.
  2. its not I've looked up my local laws and regulations And between the transmit signail and the gain on the antenna it cant have any more than 60 watts combined, in order to achieve the exception in my local laws it has to be POINT TO POINT, not omnidirectional
  3. We also like to mess around and try different backdoors and such with Kali Linux and being inside the same LAN is a good way to mess around. Once I can get together a build Like this I plan on making a step by step howto to share my experiences with others, cause I've seen quite a few people looking for a cheap way to accomplish this. Other projects include a local intranet to test out website designs and playing with DNS and all kinds of tech related projects. We do it for the rec, man.
  4. True. We mostly just want to do this because We believe its entirely possible. We've seen somewhat similar setups on youtube but they don't explain the equipment they use And trying to research this has been somewhat a pain in the arse if you don't know exactly what youre looking for, specifically on what kind of amplifier would put some extra juice into that kind of a signal. I'm more of a software guy, hardware isn't particularly my strong suit, though I Like to mess with it from time to time.
  5. Okay So Heres what I wanna do. I wanna take a usb dongle like this, with a removable antenna, http://www.amazon.com/Alfa-AWUSO36NH-Wireless-Long-Rang-Network/dp/B0035APGP6?tag=wireleshackt-20 run a pigtail wire to some sort of amplifier, Pig tail wire from that to a decent homemade Cantenna or even pickup a used dish network satellite dish, And put two of those about a mile apart, to try to create a long distance LAN between me and a friend of mine, For LAN parties and so he can access my NAS storage device. Is this feasible? It doesn't have to be super fast. 300mbps is more than enough. Would I get a stronger signal using a cheap ass router that has removeable antennas? What kind of amplifier am I looking to buy to serve this purpose? I have networking experience, If i can get some help picking out parts to make a build like this, I know how to setup routers and such and establish a link by myself. Question Is what hardware do I need to accomplish such a task. Also, for anyone who knows about the Laws regarding this in the US, With different combinations of Tx power and different antennas, We are allowed to use essentially a sixty watt system all together as long as its point to point wifi. So what I'm trying to do is actually legal in my area
  6. Which Particular r9 380 did you have in mind?

  8. If going for i34150, new egg price is 121. Go for i3 4170, which new egg price is 114! Cheaper and better performance. Link for proof: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117543&Tpk=i3%204170 I second this opinion.
  9. Cheap Gaming rig. Not sure how much overclocking ability the 4170 has, since it has a locked multiplier, So pretty sure I don't need a board that's capable of over clocking I don't need too many bells and whistles. A few Sata 3 ports, would be nice to have a front panel USB 3 header, Planning on coupling 4170 cpu with a GTX 950 super clocked acx 2.0 Most important is budget. I just need a reliable board in the 50-75 USD range, Preferably closer to 50. Been reading alot of dead on arrival reviews for boards in this range So i'm hoping for a recommendation for one that's known to have decent quality.
  10. doing some price checking on the i5 and they easily blow my budget, even used. i3 4170 is within my budget, finding some for only 10 dollars more than the 4160
  11. Found this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/GIGABYTE-GeForce-GTX-960-GV-N960IXOC-2GD-2GB-128-Bit-GDDR5-PCI-Express-3-0-HDCP-/291363244575?hash=item43d69a4a1f:g:YhAAAOSw1ZBUw6j4
  12. Also, Thanks to every who replied So quickly! I definately appreciate the help :]
  13. I will be stuck with a stock cooler for the foreseeable future, so overclocking very far may be an issue with the 860k build
  14. Ugh I am facing OP's dilemma right now, as I am considering a build with each of those processors. I run some small server programs like FTP and Plex and do some video encoding which is why I'm thinking of going with the FX-6300.
  15. FX-6300 vs i3 4160 need help Choosing! pretty simple really, I plan on building a small budget gaming rig, where I will be pairing either one of these processors with a GTX 950 2 gb OC This is my first ever build from the ground up, have done small upgrades and repairs for friends and family. I plan on playing mostly modern games, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Witcher 3, mostly first person shooters. But i will also be using the computer for a fair amount of multitasking Running FTP server almost fulltime, seeding torrents, Probably running A plex media server from this machine, Some Video Enconding/Editing Will be doing a dual boot with either ubuntu or Arch linux. Maybe be messing around with some Crypto Currency mining, I have only a budget of 500 dollars exactly, no more. The AMD vs Intel debate is too heated for me, And I'd like some advise as to which of these processors might suite me better Do I go with six cores or two hyperthreaded ones? Im so torn need advice. Im sure this subject has been hashed over a few times on budget gaming builds but none of the posts Ive looked at has the same usage scenarios as I have.
