POST problems part 2 : call the geniuses
Drogoth replied to Drogoth's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Yeah that's what I was thinking too but the beep code makes eveything so weird, why would it give me a "video error" code when I remove the Ram, and give me no beep and no post when there's Ram seated Yes i tried it, even tried another monitor -

I did try the different RAM slots, unfortunatly I don't have another DDR4 kit at my disposal for further testing. Still the beep code doesn't seem to point out a memory problem that's what bothers me most. And yes the ram is on the QVL. -

Hey it's me again, After returning my previous motherboard following POST problems I thought my troubles were over. PREVIOUS TOPIC: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/490742-no-post-no-beep-no-christmas-help/ But even with the new motherboard I still encountered the same problem, I figured one of the other components was faulty. I tried breadtesting with another PSU, no success, tried all the other RAM slots, no success. I don't have another stick of DDR4 to test with nor another Skylake CPU. So far this build has been tears and blood for me, so I decided to buy a troubleshooting kit with a motherboard Speaker to know precisely what was going on. Here's what I got : So I went here to know what the code meant and it says : That doesn't make any sense to me since it only beeps when I remove the RAM, and still does the code when I plug integrated graphics only. INFO : MOBO : Asus H170M-PLUS , listed as a UEFI AMI Bios (more info here ) CPU: Intel Core Skylake i5-6400 (compatible) RAM: 1x8Gb Corsair vengeance 2400Mhz Graphics: Gigabyte GTX960 OC-2GB PSU: Corsair CXM Series 80+ Bronze ATX 500W I really need you guy's help, thank you very much !

This video Linus made is really complete, in my opinion, and should suit you for most of your builds, it's time coded and everything

Stupid question but is your PSU correctly plugged and is it switched ON ? Also, check your front pannel connectors to your motherboard if you're trying to power your system up using your case's power button -
True ! I've selected this board as a replacement : https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/H170M-PLUS/ Any thoughts ?
-
Wait I just realized my memory was 2400 Mhz, could it have been too much for my Motherboard preventing it to post ?
-
NEWS/UPDATE Shipped the motherboard back ! Can each of you guys (exept for Counter Strike Player who already did) make a suggestion for a similar MoBo that you think is good (hopefully with LED error code indicator this time around ) Thanks for your help !
-
But I tried all slots for my memory and it's sitting down firmly in place ! And I'm pretty sure it's compatible ! What's all that non-QVL stuff ?
-
You are very right, but I tried launching it without any RAM stick in it and it still didn't post. So it's probably 4 beeps, I can't quite remember for sure but I'd say it was 4 beeps rather than 3.
-
I think it was 3 beeps, or 4 ? The guy was pretty positive it was the board anyway. Can you think of a similar board but with a debug LED or at least something to let me know what's wrong this time around ?
-
I agree, and it's cheap ! Any idea for a mobo ?

NEWS / UPDATE ! Okay so I went to the chinese store this morning, the guy had a motherboard speaker available (I didn't at home) and the beep code told us the motherboard itself was faulty. I'm returning it, a buying a new one you guys got any suggestions ? You can base yourself on the build show in the 1st post.
