  1. Hi All, I am looking at getting 2 new monitors as my current monitor is getting old and having flickering issues (5ish years). I want: 1440p G sync 144hz Hence looking at these monitors. I was wondering which monitor I should go for, primarily gaming on PC and some with the PS4, I know the main difference is the TN panel vs the IPS panel between these monitors but need advice as to what I would need as there is £100 difference between them. But I have also heard of both of these monitors having a lot of QC issues like dead pixels and light bleed?!? Thank you.
  2. Does it give you any errors when the system boots backup? I have had my PSU voltages 12V 5V and 3.3V go astray before which has caused an instant shutdown. But when that has happened it has been presented to me on start up. Just an idea I am throwing out there
  3. Hi All, I am looking to build a cheap Media PC (Would be running on a 4K screen, not sure that it matters overall as I have a spare 980TI lying around that I could use tbh) or NAS PC for my living room and was wondering if anyone had any ideas for parts I could use to do so? If I am honest I am not sure what I want to do with it exactly I just want to have a play around with i using linux etc. Budget wise I am not sure yet but just want to get an idea of what people think I would need and budget from there really but not expensive ideally. Any help would be appreciated. THANK YOU!
  4. Hi All, I am planning to use my old build as a PC for the living room but don't need it to be a chunky E-ATX, Corsair 750D size machine. Therefore I was wondering if anyone was able to help me get the following specs within the smallest case and mobo (Mini ATX?) I can as overclocking etc is no longer going to be a thing the mobo doesn't require "gaming" features. 5820K Corsair H110i GTX AIO MSI 980TI Gaming Corsair HX1000i (Used to SLI, but pointless to spend money to replace) 250GB SSD I am looking to replace the mobo and the case ONLY ideally, but if cheap options for lets say the cooler are required please let me know, I am looking to spend as little as I can, lets say budget wise max £200 if that is even possible? Sorry to be a pain and thank you in advance to anyone that can help!!
  5. Thank you for the clarification, I think I have an understanding of everything now!
  6. I appreciate you coming across from my other question to help on this one! Are there any reasonably priced Monitors you would recommend with a 1440p Res? Thank you!!
  7. Does this mean the GPU will only be provided 8 PCI-E lanes?
  8. Sorry treat me as dumb, what is the PCH, is that part of the chipset which is used by the sata ports and will be disabled when a M.2 is used?
  9. @AngryBeaver, @5x5 and @Blademaster91 If I used the Samsung Evo 970 would it use PCI-E express lanes? as the 9900k only has 16 and would rather not have the GPU only having 8 to use?
  10. Thank you I will stick with what I have and wait for a while until the prices become more reasonable over time!!
  11. Oh thank you yes it is VERY expensive. I have them at work and liked the speed when I used them is all. But may not be worth it if TLC would work for me.
  12. Okay I will save my money I have a second 24 inch monitor which is vertical for coding and everything else I dump on it already. But what do you meaning by "Gaming in general is pretty pointless" do you mean having 1440p for gaming is pointless?
  13. Very useful information thank you, seems I have lots to think about in regards to the GPU think I am set on the 9900k now though tbh. No problem! Very helpful so I will have a little look around Thank you
  14. You seem to know a bit about monitor having such high end ones yourself, do you have time to help me here at all:
  15. I game mostly if I am honest! Sometimes work but I am a Software Engineer, colours aren't an issue for me in that role. My current monitor is a TN panel just to clarify sorry! Budget wise I am not sure I guess I could go up to £500 but I am not sure if I should bother spending the money or if it would be a waste compared to what I currently have?
  16. Yes very true!!! Thank you! Yes but as you mentioned value wise the 2080 would be up there considering the FPS difference? it just doesn't feel like the 1080TI to 2080TI jump is anywhere near as good as the 980TI to the 1080TI jump was and the price is insane now, compared to the 2080 Super you are looking to spend 2x more almost its just a hard jump to bring myself to do hence why I leaning more towards not going for a 2080 TI? Like you could almost SLI 2 2080 Supers for the same price as a 2080TI alone where I am
  17. Wow that is a hefty price difference and almost 100% more than the 2080 Super I was looking at? Are you sure it would really be worth it over the likes of a 2080 Super or even an AMD GPU? Don't want to question your judgement just very hefty
  18. @Princess Luna and @5x5 Glad that is all sorted! Also thank you for all of the information if I do go for the 9900k I will be sure to let you both know the temp results etc
  19. Thank you my current PCPP build is this: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/29KmfH I already have the PSU from a previous build though I have just added it in for ref Thank you for the information about the SSDs it has given me something to think about for sure! With regards to the CPU I understand what you mean I may do some research on how I would do all of this before I even buy as it would be a first for me doing it out the box if I need an older CPU etc sometimes you can do straight from USB
  20. Custom Water Cooling loop is out of the question for me I have no experience with it and worry as it is a lot more work than an AIO But yes assume it is much more for all the tubing and liquid blocks etc?
  21. Okay so much better for the Boot drive then Thank you for the clarification
  22. Thank you @Princess Luna I am going to watch these videos whilst I work now!! Hopefully save myself some money! Saving money for the 2080TI would be great I just want to stick around the £2000 mark whereas currently it was hitting £2600 with the 2080TI! @5x5 I am not the best with PC's etc but will I have to flash the BIOS requiring an older CPU if I go with AMD I know it has been required in the past and with this gen too? But if I got the 2080Ti what would be a suitable CPU to not bottleneck as Princess Luna mentioned as the 3900x is beyond the price of even a 9900k with no better performance from people benchmarking? Also could you clarify what you mean by QLC junk? I am a little dumb when it comes to storage would the Samsung Evo 970 be better then an Intel 660p?
  23. Hi All, I currently have a Dell 2716DG monitor 1440p 144hz 1ms and G-Sync. However, I am getting a new system which is looking to be around the 2080 Super to 2080 TI with a 9900K but I am having discussions in another forum about potential changes to this but just so you have an idea of the performance I am looking at. I am wondering if it is worth upgrading my monitor to either an IPS panel or a higher res as I have had this monitor 5 years now and am considering a new one with at minimum the specs it has but without killing my bank account and there are SO SO many options I am stuck! Help? Thank you in advance!
  24. I had considered it but I have always had Intel systems and its sort of a comfort thing to stick with Intel, I know that AMD has come a long way it is simply where I feel comfortable I have already got a Dell 2716DG monitor, but I am open to replacing as it is 5 years old and may open a topic for suggestions if I am honest in the Monitors category Thank you Streetguru a lot of info to take in and very useful to know all of those stats! I will take a look at the video now as seems like a potential money saver! as well as your case and storage suggestions! Thank you so much for the detail!!! CPU as I mentioned above is a comfort thing as I have always used Intel and never had issues and performance historically is better although I know AMD has come a LONG LONG way. I will have a chat with some people at work about AMD as some of them use AMD and see if they are able to show me some systems etc to help me so thank you @Streetguru and @5x5
