    New Monitor

So I have gone through a number of monitors over the last few years. I've finally got a gaming display I like which is also my current primary display. An Acer 144hz 1440p 27 inch monitor. My secondary display is some Dell Ultra Sharp 27" 1440p display which is also lovely but neither of these are ideal for casual use. I like to lean back a bit when I'm browsing reddit and the internet in general and 1440p at 27" is a little too small for my liking. I've had an ultrawide in the past and loved it but it wasn't tall enough. This was before 32:10 was a thing. I will be keeping my Acer 144hz display for gaming but I want to make it my secondary display and replace the Dell with something else. Here's what I'm considering right now: BenQ 32" and a Phillip's 43" I HAVE had a 43" 4K monitor before and I recall it being slightly too large but I'm willing to try it again. I'm also open to suggestions. Use: Video editing, color accuracy would be nice but anything I do is going to Youtube and or is being watched on uncalibrated displays, also even if I do have a calibrated display I would still review work on my phone, TV and other monitors to check color. Web browsing, when I do research I like to have one window for product listings in multiple tabs and another for reviews in multiple tabs. Netflix Casual gaming, I love playing single player games on large displays like GTA, Assassin's Creed etc. Budget: I'm willing to go up to $800 USD but would like to stay between $400 and $600 Here's a photo of my current setup.
  2. Seems new but I suppose you're right. I was also mildly concerned because in BF4 I usually hover at around 80 - 85% usage but today it was 99%. Same settings and all that but I was still able to push 90+ fps. No performance dips as far as I noticed.
  3. My question is, why? Steam isn't' doing anything other than being open. Why does it spike to near full GPU usage when I move my mouse around? That doesn't seem normal
  4. So, I fee like I just noticed this yesterday. I always have monitoring software in use so I feel like I'd have seen this before. When I mouse over my Steam window while it's open my GPU usage will spike from 15 or 20% all the way to 85% just while I'm in steam and moving my cursor around. The same thing happens with origin, no games running or anything. I updated my drivers yesterday after noticing this and it didn't help. Key Specs: CPU: Ryzen 7 2700x GPU: GTX 1070 RAM: 16 GB Crucial Ballistix DDR4 Windows 10 Pro
  5. I have a Schecter C-1 Platinum guitar. I've had it for 2 years and they go for $600 new so I was thinking about $400. Any one else think that's fair? https://www.guitarcenter.com/Schecter-Guitar-Research/C-1-Platinum-Electric-Guitar.gc
  6. Cool! Yeah I mean what I'm trying to do with the small form factor is cut down on desk clutter. I had honestly considered going with an AIO computer but that still doesn't really help because I have 2 monitors, sound bar, mouse and keyboard. It's such a mess but I figured at least having a smaller system would help some what
  7. I am pretty bad at building in super small cases I was thinking M ATX as I'd also like 2 usable PCI slots
  8. 1TB WD Black. Samsung 250 or 500 GB SSD I think it's 250 and a 120GB SSD for Windows. Good on storage for sure. I was thinking of giving the 120GB SSD to my friend since the only reason I didn't move windows to the samsung was because I was too lazy.
  9. My response to you wasn't meant to seem snarky so I apologize if it seemed that way. I think I might at least try to hold out for that Zen 2, I know my impressions of AMD from 5 years ago are largely no longer valid and I'm trying to get out of my "intel fan boy" way of thinking
  10. Adobe Premiere, sorry I thought that was obvious ? fair question though
  11. Hi all, so I built my current rig about 4 years ago and I think it's time for a new one. Specs listed in my signature below. I'm keeping the 1070 for now as well as my storage and PSU but upgrading everything else. Budget, let's say around $900 USD. Uses: Gaming and 4K video editing, I've not been keeping up with hardware that much lately which is why I want help. I'm not unwilling to switch to AMD but I'd like to stay with Intel unless some of you would think it best to switch to Ryzen. I'd also like it to be a smaller build. I currently have a corsair 750D and that thing is too massive. Also WiFi on the motherboard would be nice. Last thing: I was going to give the remains of my current build to my friend once I upgrade and I was going to tell her to get a 1660 or 2060. She's not really playing very demanding games and will only be playing at 1080p. She really just cares to play Saints Row IV and Borderlands 3. I'm pretty confident that the 2060 will be fine but I've always had the "70" or "80" version of NVIDIA GPU's. Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance! EDIT: I would like a "K" series CPU as well, I don't know that I will overclock but I would like to have the option to
  12. So we use google sheets a lot at my day job. I can't explain what exactly we do but I'm in QA and basically we track issues made internally. We use google sheets for this. We have a set of issue types that we track as well as who made the issue, who in QA is tracking the issue, the priority level of the issue in question, and the current status of the issue which is either "Done" or " Sent to ____ to fix". I've been looking at switching to Smartsheet since they have a reporting feature which can generate a report by telling it to look in the QA sheet for "X" data. Click "run" then there it is a report with the criteria I specified. Something I haven't considered until recently would be google sheet add ons. I'm hoping someone here can help me find a good reporting solution in google sheets. All of our reports are done manually right now and they take HOURS. In smartsheet they take like a quarter of the time.
  13. UPDATE: New CMOS battery has been in since Tuesday? Monday? Idk I lose track of days. So far so good, no crashes.
  14. I should have closed this post. I got a new CMOS battery for my board the other day and haven't had any issues as of yet.
  15. No obvious GPU sag, I think my PSU is an EVGA Supernova 650W G2. It's only about a year and a half old, 2 at most. Since replacing the CMOS battery I haven't had any issues but it's only been 24 hours so it's just a wait and see kind of thing. I don't want to troubleshoot too many things at once in case I somehow overlook something. If it goes down again I'll swap PCI slots. I swapped from the second from the top slot to the top slot maybe 4 months ago but I didn't have any issues until the random crashes that I was experiencing last week.
  16. I JUST swapped the battery with a new one. I can't imagine it's the GPU. At least I HOPE not because I replaced it 2 years ago. I had my first 1070 for 2 months before it got liquid damage (don't ask, it's embarrassing) so this is my second 1070 lol. I've had a couple of people at work suggest it's the power supply. I ran valley for 5 or 10 minutes at 4K the other day with no crashed. I can't force the system to crash, it just happens randomly. Part of me hopes it's the board so I can upgrade my system but at the same time to upgrade it's like $700 - $900. Because I'm stupid and didn't adopt DDR4 when I built Should've just gone with X99.
  17. I REALLY hate that I over looked that. Can it boot without the battery? I debated taking it out once thinking that taking it out and putting in. Any ideas as to why it might shut off while in use for several hours? "it might take a couple of tries before it recognizes the PCI-e card and switches from 'onboard graphics' default settings to 'pci-e graphics'." Also, the first time I had this happen I tried to just let it run to see if it would sort itself out. I let it go for about 2 minutes and it just stayed as it was.
  18. Okay so a few days ago I tried to power my computer on and all of my fans were spinning but my GPU didn't light up and nothing came on screen. Assuming it was a GPU issue I unplugged and plugged it back in and everything was fine. Repeat that issue a couple of times and we get to yesterday when my computer "shut off" while in regular use. Fans were spinning but no light on GPU. This time I tried something different and re-seated my RAM. Computer booted normally. Today when this happened I noticed something weird when I turned the PSU back on. There was a small (what I'm going to assume is an LED) flash below the bottom PCI-E slot. I've attached 2 images. One has the area circled where I saw this flash and the other is the message I get after rebooting from power loss. https://drive.google.com/open?id=14xZIMkQbVDq_-W2RV9uhQsBUZshaBrhM Assuming it's the board this is a perfect excuse to upgrade. What would you all suggest fair market price for a 4790K, Hyper 212 EVO, and 16GB of Crucial Ballistix 16GB is? I'd sell the rest of the parts but I'm trying to keep my costs down so I'm keeping everything else. I might sell the case but I'm not decided on that yet. Any ideas as to if this IS the board and what I could maybe do about it?
  19. Yeah I make sure all peripherals are off and then turn the PSU off before unplugging anything. I think once today I forgot to turn the PSU off but the system was off for sure and I've been having this problem since Monday (I think, if not then it was Wednesday). Before that the last time I'd opened up my system was to dust it and unplug an old hard drive I wasn't using any more and that was about 3 weeks ago.
  20. So update, it happened again. This time while just watching Nextflix. My fans were still spinning, USB still had power even after I turned the system "off". I had to switch the PSU off to kill all power. This time instead of unpluging my GPU I re seated the RAM and the system powered back on so I'm starting to suspect the motherboard. https://drive.google.com/open?id=14xZIMkQbVDq_-W2RV9uhQsBUZshaBrhM The image posted shows the message I get after booting up from power loss.
  21. HOPEFULLY. Thanks for the advice. I'm great at troubleshooting for other people but when it's my own system I freak out lol
  22. Hey so on Sunday my PC updated before shutting down, I clicked "Update and shut down" then went to bed. When I came home the next day and turned it on all of my fans powered on but my GPU didn't light up and nothing came on screen. I had the same issue last night except I never turned it off. When I woke up and tried to wake it from sleep the fans spun up but no lights on my GPU and nothing on my display. Weirdly my mouse was still lit up, I don't recall if my keyboard was too but I think it was. In both cases unplugging my GPU and plugging it back in again resolved the issue. So I'm thinking this could either be a PSU issue or GPU and I really hope it's not an issue with my GPU. Also after I fixed it this morning I had a boot message that said something like "All settings have been reset, press F1 to run setup or F2 to continue" I hit F2 and everything seems fine. EDIT: I just ran valley benchmark at 4K to see if maybe it was a power delivery issue but it didn't crash. Any thoughts?
  23. Oh nice! That's great info. I think I'm just going to live with it for the time being. I need to stop watching so much anyway. I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue. It just seems that when I noticed it that it was something new and wasn't happening until I first spotted it.
  24. My old desk was just 2 Alex drawers with a 72" counter top plopped on top. It was fine except for the fact that it wasn't deep enough at 25". My current desk is 60" wide with 30" depth. The depth is perfect but it's not quite wide enough. I like big displays and I've got a 43" 4K monitor and a 27" monitor. I plan on adding a 32" or even another 43" at some point. I'm looking for something that's just legs and a top. I only find executive desks at the width I want but I don't want a massive executive desk in my bedroom. The only thing I've seen that comes close is from evodesk. They have options for 72" and 84".
  25. LOL nah I already had them on stands and that was part of the problem. My old desk was 72" wide but my monitors blocked the speakers so i put them on stands and I couldn't angle the monitors on the stands to have the sound be ideal. I've gone with the sound bar and I'll be replacing it with the soundblaster sound bar soon enough. I moved my studio monitors to this alcove desk that's built into my apartment. lol
