  1. Ok, cool. Yeah windows PCs. And ok cool, and most of the synology servers I saw came diskless, so I could still pick up some of those WD Red Pros and call it good?
  2. This is a decent looking 1060 https://www.amazon.com/PNY-GeForce-1060-Graphics-Card/dp/B01IR5MR32/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1469409243&sr=1-5&keywords=gtx+1060
  3. Yeah, looks good. I have never ran a stock cooler on a GPU before (besides aftermarket GPUS) so i wonder how thermal throttling will affect your performance. I think you will enjoy this build. Decent PC for 1080p gaming
  4. Alright, I will take a look. You are correct more planning. For a DIY Server though what Protocol and Filesystem would you reccomend? and what OS does the synology run? Or do I install myself?
  5. If you were to do that trade, I would stick with the 480 and get the SSD. The difference between it and a HDD it night and day! or save some more money and get exactly what you want
  6. I like this build better then the original build using fm board and the FX AMD cpu. The i5, however being locked, will perform in my opinion nicer (maybe not as many FPS) but will overall be nicer to use generally. I may consider in your case to get 1x8GB DDR3 Dimm, so you can upgrade to 2x8 and so on. Unless you don't see yourself doing much upgrading. I also would conisder the GTX 1060 as well, but thats just my opinion (wait for it to be stocked, worth it) It doesn't look like you have the cash, but I prefer a small SSD boot drive and a larger PSU for more comfort room. Overall nice build though!
  7. Files, mostly small sized files. Will be media such as photos and small videos. But a lot of spreadsheets, docs and other things.. Just a lot of people will be adding/editing these files. Was thinking about just going simple and using NTFS or exFat Not sure about the protocol
  8. I guess I just thought Windows Server was the mainsteam, But I guess FreeNas is quite popular. Yeah I don't know about a SAN. I have seen them and they are probably a slight bit overkill for the stage the company is at now. Thanks for the Input
  9. Ok, could I assign users specific read/write privileges? Based on logins? If this is the golden solution to use FreeNas, why don't more people use it? Or am I just overlooking its potential? Thanks
  10. It is a hobby/job. Server building is not something I usually do, but he wants to build from scratch(he is looking for a project). I will look into the IMPI/drac setup. And if I used FreeNas how would a get remote access, and access to the files outside of the local network. I saw owncloud, but I didn't like it as much as the windows interface.
  11. But I was just wondering about a website server, that is still in the air. Priority is a vault storage server like this one I have been planning
  12. I looked into the Windows on a USB and found the same thing. I am running windows because there will be close to 20 users accessing this server, I like the windows server 2012 r2 environment. All the other machines will be windows, so I was going to use the same OS and I am comfortable with it. I like the remote access as well I might get a GPU just to have it,and it will have a dedicated monitor for the server until I install the other 3 servers. Then i will go VGA with a KVM setup. I am going to get the raid card from LSI probably. And I need to host the website in house, client specifically requested to not use any outside hosting.
  13. Alright cool stuff man, Thanks for all the help!
  14. I will see about the nic, might look into a 10GB nic, did not think about it
