Is the i7-8700k the new i7-2600k?
JWMutant replied to Mister Woof's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Depends.... can a 2600K get 5.2 ghz @ 100% load at 53 degrees? Cause I know I can with my 8700K. -
Im having issues with the Q-flash Plus feature on this board and am hoping someone may have some pointers or tell me what im doing wrong. As this Motherboard doesnt support the 2920X until Bios F10 I need to use the Q Flash Plus feature. However I am having some issues. The USB drive I am using is USB 2.0 and is formatted in FAT32. I have renamed the bios file as the instructions describe. It is in the white USB port. I have the 24 pin PSU connected as well as the 8 pin and 4 pin. The CPU is not installed, the ram is not installed and the video card is not installed. When I turn the PSU on the motherboard lights up for a second then the usb stick flashes for a second then nothing happens. When I press the power switch on the motherboard a few seconds later the usb stick starts to flash the ornage light comes on and stays solid. The usb stops flashing then the orange light turns off. I have tried with the F10 bios and the f12 bios from your website. Anyone have any clues?

I was able to find the sweet spot with the voltages by using this chart. While my board isnt the Taichi it gave me a reference point for voltages. So I set the voltage to 1.320 adaptive. From there it was a matter of stressing it under prime95 with CPU-z open so I could see what the CPU was "Actually" drawing in voltage which was around the 1.25-1.26. so gave it a fixed 1.28 voltage. -

The temp peaks at 52 when I stress it with prime95 but yea happy with the temps so far. Running liquid cooling with 2 x 360mm rads, thats with my card LC as well. Ill try for more when I have a little bit of time to stress test it. -
EA turns off, 'all in-game purchases' in Battlefront II BUT WITH A CATH
JWMutant replied to shadowbyte's topic in Tech News
This whole pay to win idea should come as no surprise to anyone. EA have been doing it for years. This is however the first time it directly effects game play. Battlefield 1, Battlefield 4 both had pack that you could buy in the hopes of getting something. This is how EA operate. They introduce an in game feature which on the surface seems like a good idea, and when they see that it has a moderate amount of success they push the envelope on the chance it will pay off for them. Trust me when I say this.... this is only the beginning. If they have even a little bit of success in this every AAA title we follow with the same idea, starting with BF 2018. -
Well I guess if you are running alot of game servers in a data centre like hypernia this will come in very handy.

Unraid server build parts recommendations
JWMutant replied to deenice1969's topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
TBH if your looking to start from scratch the the motherboard and CPU isnt really overly important so long as the CPU supports virtualization... so no K class CPU's and that the motherboard supports intel virtualization as well as VT -d if you go with a intel cpu. The only way you will know if the board supports this settings is by A. looking in the bios if you have the board already or B. Look at the bios settings in the manual. Your best bet is to pick up a cheap MB/CPU combo on ebay and if your looking for something on a shoe string budget socket 775 or 771. -
I would start off by checking the smart settings for each disk from within unRAID itself. Some of the attribute notifications are switched off by default. I would also double check the actual smart attributes themselves to see if your getting any fails that are not being reported. If all is well on that front then I would next check that your sas card is actually reading the smart info in the first place. Some HBA cards when flashed to IT mode where not reading the smart info from the disk. Just read up on the flashing thread over at limetech as they will normally let you know in the thread if it reads smart attributes after doing a cross flash. Also try using some of the SATA ports on your motherboard and see if your getting any different results. I can also see by the linux kernal that you havent upgraded to 6.2 yet so you may want to do that before you do anything. Check that your HBA card is seated properly. I must say I have been using unRAID long before Linus made it cool and can say I havent seen to many of those screen shots. However if after you check all of the above you still get no joy your best bet is to post over at limetech as they are the pros about this and a very friendly to work with.
