Background: I work in a small game studio, currently we have six branches in development, each branch needs multiple dedicated build machines (easier to manage). Currently, we are using threadrippers with Proxmox to virtualize multiple machines, Since some of our branches only needs to build once per week, CPU resources can be allocated to other VM's which might build daily. Repos for each of our branches is around 500G, The problem: We are running into long build times with our two current workstations, we want to add a third. However I feel that this is not as cost effective as dedicated instances. However, with dedicated instances, we are unable to share CPU resouces for machines that currently does not have a build running. I'm not sure if a storage is viable (io wise) for such game repos, where we can pull an intire repo in a resonable time to an dedicated instance and build that way. Does anyone have expierence on such projects?

We would need some form of redundancy just to keep it running during the day and allowing us to rebuild the drive during night. Right now we are thinking about getting 24 870 4T evos, 4 drives for each RAIDZ1 and 2 4T SN750 for cache. As I understand, when one drive fails I don't have to take the PC offline?

Looking for a case that can support ~24 drives and fit an NH-U14S to cool a threadripper 3970x. I was looking at 4u server racks than realized that the cooler won’t fit in a 4U chassis

Need an new build server for our game studio, currently looking at ThreadRipper 3970X + 256G of memory. Need help with the storage solution, will need around 60TB of high speed (ideally all SSD storage) with future expandability. I know that going with HBA's will allow us better expandability in terms of storage in the future instead of populating all the SATA and M.2 ports on the motherboard. Currently have a budget around 13-14k to start with.

Asus X299 Deluxe II WiFi change
DeathPheonix replied to DeathPheonix's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I believe it’s m.2 e-key -
Is it possible to swap out the intel ac WiFi card with an ax one, or is it limited by the bios to only support that specific card

Looking for ANSI, but thanks I’ll try searching with southpaw

Are there any keyboards that have the numpad or numpad and arrow keys on the left hand side that also utilizes ANSI layout? DSI seems to have one but only ISO layout.

ESXi Web Management without network adapaters?

My management network is currently attached to vSwitch0, however I don't seem to be able to select vSwitch0 when adding a network adapter to my virtual machine -
Suggestions for mid range SFF build
DeathPheonix replied to DeathPheonix's topic in New Builds and Planning
Bump, can't believe that nearly 300 views and no replies.. -
I’m planning to build an SFF as a daily driver to my girlfriend. I’m located in China now where some parts cost much lower and some cost more than those back in the US. Right now I have decided on some parts but open to suggestions. Not going to be gaming on the system much, the system would be paired with an 4K display. Geek A50( similar to Dan Case A4) or Node 202 for case Ryzen 5 3600 16/32Gig of RAM(undecided on model) 1T C2000 Pro Corsair SF450 RX580 or GTX1060 Still haven’t decide on Motherboard (would prefer WiFi and Bluetooth built in) Cooler Based on her usage I lean towards for 32gig of ram but not sure if the price has stabilized yet. The only overclocking that I would do might be bumping the cpu to 3600x speeds and syncing all cores. Hope the final build would be in the quiet side under load

Just got the Predator XB3P. At 4K resolution i have the option for YCbCr444 10bpc with limited dynamic range and RGB with full dynamic range. Which one should I use?

New monitor suggestions, 4K + high refresh rate?
DeathPheonix replied to DeathPheonix's topic in Displays
My target is only 100ish -
I'm looking to replace my P2715Q due to relocation. I want to experience an high refresh rate monitor but i'm afraid if that dropping down to 1440P would not be as sharp and seem pixelated. Are there any 4k monitors with >60Hz refresh rate? Any other monitor suggestions would also be welcome, I'm also looking into LG's 5k2k display for an ultrawide option.

I’d be looking into a tower as I think this would be in my living room for now. Hyper-v does sound nice . For the router I could get a Asus router with Merlin firmware but I’d rather not.. the router is just for a simple use as I have my primary router hooked after it, can’t run dual WAN or vpn client on my main router

I'm planning to build an centralized home network setup doubling as a NAS, a router probably using LEDE or pfsense, local DNS using pi-hole, and a HTPC. Would like suggestions on what to use as a hypervisor, currently thinking about using esxi. As for NAS some sort of redundancy would be nice to have, planning to go with freenas at the moment, would unraid be better? And I'm also trying to find a chassis to go with this setup, probably have at least four 3.5 inch drives for storage and backup going with an ATX mobo. Currently looking at Silverstone GD09, would like a nice case even if that means I have to switch to noctua or ML fans. I would like to have 4K HDR playback with the HTPC component of this build. The current specs I'm thinking about is an 8th or 9th gen i5, an 1050 for HTPC video playback, 8gig of ram, will go up to 16 if needed. Some 600watt gold power supply. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I want to build an server/router for my home network. Preferably in the same box. Would want the server to act as an router using some Linux distro, a NAS and an HTPC for 4K HDR video playback. I'm thinking that using unraid and two vm should do the work? One for the router and one for the HTPC. Would an 8th gen i3 be sufficient enough for this kind of task?
