  1. Thanks for the replies. Wanted to clarify a little more. We're shooting and then moving large amounts of footage onto a hard drive. We have a backup system once it's in our office. Ideally for speed we want to move the footage onto something like the super fast, portable Sandisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD or a T7 Shield. But the risk of one of them failing is too high. But if we could run two in a RAID 1 format and keep it portable without needing external power that would be ideal. And RAID 1 would be safe enough for us just for getting it off the camera cards and into the office.
  2. I currently have the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD. Works very well for what I need. It's very fast and doesn't need external power. I'm looking for a system where I can run two portable SSDs as RAID 1 for storage safety. And ideally not need an external power supply. Is such a thing possible? Are there any drives or drive setups I can buy that will work for this?
  3. Yeah, I thought of using a eyedropper tool, but I'm not sure how I'm going to ultimately determine which colors are "closer" in an objective sense. Say the true color is Red 150, Green 77, Blue 204. Sealant 1 changes colors to Red 145, Green 79, Blue 207. Sealant 2 changes the colors to Red 153, Green 74, Blue 202. How exactly am I going to say which one is better? I guess I could see how much each color changed for red, green and blue and add that together. So sealant 1 in my example is 5+2+3=10. Sealant 2 is 3+3+2=8. Sealant 2 wins. Maybe that works? Was just hoping some program could give me something similar to the percent convergence values given for monitor tests.
  4. So I've got kind of a complicated, strange question. Thought this might be a good place to ask it. I was planning on testing a number of clear matte spray sealants to see which one was the best. I was going to paint some colored squares on a swatch, and take a "before" picture of it. And lock down the camera and lights. Then spray the swatch with the sealant and take an "after" picture. Do the same thing with all of the sealants with their own swatch. Ideally the colors on the before and after swatch should look identical. Same saturation, brightness, etc. Whichever one changes the colors the least would be the best sealant. I know there's programs that test monitor accuracy and spit out some overall numbers. I think they test things like the percent convergence between the colors. Is there a program that would give me something similar if I had it compare two pictures? I could just sort of do an eye test, but would prefer something a little more objective. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
  5. Hm, I can only find European ones. And "mains conditioner" just pulls up European plug models, and mostly just from one company.
  6. Cool, thanks. I'll try that. And am I plugging it in to the correct port? The little green audio port for an audio jack seems inadequate for some reason.
  7. I don't have a dedicated sound card. Does the lack of a sound card cause static like this?
  8. I have a PC I built and two JBL LSR305 speakers. There's some static that comes through them while I perform certain functions and when some videos play. When I launch or close some programs, when I scroll through stuff, and when I perform editing tasks in Permiere or Avid static comes through the speakers. When I play videos in Premiere and Avid there is usually some background static. There's lots of other instances as well. It seems that anything that uses some CPU power causes the speakers to emit static. Both of the speakers are plugged into the back of the tower. One wire goes from a small green audio port (not sure what this is called) and then branches off to the two speakers. I'm not sure if this is the best place to plug it in. It seems like I'm getting some interference when the CPU is working. I don't have a dedicated sound card. Not sure if that would help the problem. My motherboard is an X99, which I believe is pretty good at isolating interference. Anyway, any suggestions would be very helpful.
  9. I'm thinking of getting the Micca MB42X bookshelf speakers for my PC. Had really good reviews and the price is right. I'm on the Amazon page and I see three different versions. There's the MB42 Standard for $60, MB42X Advanced for $80 and the PB42X Powered for $120. What's the difference between the three? Will all three hook up to a PC okay?
  10. Okay, I'll have to post the info tomorrow. Is this usually controlled via software on the computer?
  11. I can check, but I'd have to do that tomorrow unfortunately. Not by the computer tonight. Does the model of the fan affect if its speed can be controlled or not?
  12. There's 2 larger ones in the front and a smaller one in the back. The motherboard is the Gigabyte H110M-A.
  13. My vocabulary on computers is a little limited, so I don't quite understand your question. I'm actually on another computer so I can't check the fans right now. They are the the stock fans that come with the case. I believe they are Corsair. My motherboard only has one port for a fan. So I bought a 1-3 PMW fan splitter cable. The 3 fans are all plugged into the cable which is attached to the motherboard.
  14. I was actually not aware that their speed could be changed. How do I do this?
