  1. Are they going to start to go proprietary?? I mean they support their software one year after its final release correct? I just want to find something with AES-NI for somewhat of a future proof system.
  2. Yes. I’m talking is that a good choice...or are there other options?
  3. Hello All, Recently I've been nose-diving into PfSense, thinking how cool it is. I need some help either building a box or finding used hardware. I'm thinking an old Dell Optiplex 790, but am unsure so let me know. I don't want to spend more than $250-300. My home connection is about 120 down and 11 upload
  4. Hey all, I'm planning on building a new computer for personal use using old server gear (LGA2011), but I have a few questions. I want to use an HP Z420 gen 1 but a version2 E5-2680v2 CPU. Is that possible? Also, Is HPs Z420 board standard ATX Size or no? Can I update the bios to get the chip to work? Finally, any suggestions on commercial used systems (i.e. Dell T3600)?
  5. Thanks that's what I meant. I thought they were already debuted my bad
  6. You don't need the Z370 board. It's a little over kill. Go for a B350 (Intel) and maybe an 8400 if possible, but do you.

  8. Okay how do you clean the board. Just put a little alcohol in the socket and allow for it to evaporate? No real bent pins. Actually none at all they all looked fine to my memory. I got a dino card ill use.
  9. Yesterday, I went over to help a friend build a new rig that he really wanted. The specs are as follows: CPU-Ryzen 7 1700 Mobo-Asus strix X370-F GSkill 16 GB of the RGB ram Asus strix GTX 1080 We booted everything out of the box and it posted like normal. We used the stock cooler then. When we booted it out of the box i dropped the cpu 4 inches and got thermal paste in the pins. I tryed to clean it to the best of my ability with a papertowel and toothpick. We put everthing in the case, boot it up and the case pcb for the front led logo (its a red H440) started smoking. My theroy is it shorted the motherboard or the paste affected the pins. I found something on Toms Hardware that suggests to stick the CPU in a cup of 90% alcohol for 5 to 10 minutes. And let it dry. We did that and i had to leave and that is as far as we got. Any ideas? Thanks. The last thing i want to do is to RMA stuff. If you are in need of more parts just ask. Thank you.
  10. So a 7600k would serve me okay? thank you.
  11. Okay and if I somehow show up to $250 more I'll upgrade to two 580s. What do you play on your 6500?
  12. No, I'm saying the board should be fine, RMA it to see if it's that if not go back to the drawing board.
  13. Gameplay recording? I might dial the 1070 back to a 580 when they are in stock. how does that sound? Also, a 2TB drive for $66.89

  15. Also, I can reuse my SSD to save a few bucks. It's a Kingston V300 240GB.
  16. Is there any way to buy a laptop (or desktop) with a chip that supports it because from my experience there is no way to change how a laptop behaves to more juice needed by the CPU.
  17. Buy unraid and create a file share for the network.
  18. Put the old B890 in again and deal with the performance hit and buy new when you have enough money pooled.
  19. Recently, I have had a lot of activity on this thread. I want to build a PC in the late summer and I want to only spend $1800 including peripherals and Monitor(s). I want some PC "sex appeal" but Idk where to start. I like the NZXT S340 Elite and Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX Tempered Glass. I want to game at 1080P minimum, record if possible and factor in the cost of the mouse ($50), keyboard ($75), headphones/headset ($125) and the cost of a G920 Logitech Wheel with h-shifter ($300). Games I'm running: Project Cars The Forza Series Euro Truck Sim The Crew (Game Series 1 & 2) Any Star Wars Games GTA 5 Features I'd like: Future Proof/Upgradable (X370 [AMD], or Z-series board [Intel]) Overclocking ability Ability to have/add RGB in future Color scheme (Black, Black and White, Monochromatic) To pop a part in "and be off to the races" I live in the US and price over budget no more than $50. Thanks for your help.
