  1. as far as I know, my issue has nothing to do with power draw. For one thing, it stays plugged in most of the time. Second, it's from Framework, and I believe it's using S3 sleep.
  2. I got a new laptop last month and this one thing is very frustrating. Mostly it behaves as you'd expect, after 10 minutes or closing the lid, it goes to sleep. However, if it's asleep long enough (I haven't tested precisely how long) it shuts itself down. I mostly notice this as it lives by my bed and I mostly use it before going to sleep, so it might spend 20 hours or so sitting there unused. I have changed it to go into hibernate instead so at least my programs (browser tabs etc.) remember where I was. It's still frustratingly long compared to waking from sleep, but better than starting up fresh. I have tried checking the advanced power settings, but nothing indicates it wants to shut the system down. There was nothing that stood out to me in event viewer either, but I don't really know what to look for there. I have a vague memory of having this issue with my previous laptop early on, but no memory how I fixed it.
  3. Thanks for the responses! I had a macbook air from 2010-2017 that I was pretty happy with, but I'm not an apple user otherwise, so I'd probably opt toward Windows, especially since the new M1s have zero upgradability. I'm surprised there are so many votes for the surface, but those were on my list, so I will definitely keep them there. I will most likely be getting/waiting for ryzen 6000 or intel 12th gen. Probably opting for AMD unless the design I like is Intel only.
  4. As the title says, I'm looking for recommendations for a new laptop. Usage wise it will be almost exclusively web browsing, but if it could do light gaming (hearthstone, League of legends) that would be a plus. I'm thinking something with integrated graphics. I'm thinking 13-15 inch screen, good wifi, 500gb-1tb storage, 16 gb ram, good battery life. Hopefully a usb A port (though I know those are getting harder to find). I watch a lot of youtube and netflix, so some decent speakers would be a big plus. Currently have a dell xps 13 2-in-1 from early 2020 that has been trouble from day 1. I could write pages on all the problems I've had with this computer, but point is, I would prefer to avoid Dell unless someone is very convincing otherwise.
  5. x570 mobo and a Ryzen 5800x. Bios is from February 2021 I believe (flashed it when I was building the system).
  6. I am having issues with video playback on one of my two monitors. On my primary monitor scrolling text or other repetitive objects moving across the screen seem to stutter in a way that is quite uncomfortable to watch. It's most notable in slow panning shots of an otherwise static scene or the scrolling text like at the bottom of a news broadcast. Moving the video to my other monitor and it is much more viewable. My primary monitor is a Samsung G7 running at 1440p 144hz SDR. My second monitor is an AOC AG271QG running at 1440p 144hz. (I know the G7 can run higher refresh, but I wanted them to match.) They are both being fed by an RTX 3080 with the latest drivers.
  7. I believe the rep understood what I meant. the 3mm driver in the Manta set and the one in my pro-tech-toolkit both magnetize screws quite well, which has been handy.
  8. yes, tested on various screws and other steel objects, just to be sure.
  9. The big question, are the ifixit 1/4" drivers meant to magnetize the bits? This is not said anywhere on their website. The story: I bought a Manta driver kit a while back, and only really had use for the 1/4" driver until recently with a smaller project where I used the 3mm driver. Once I used that one I realized I loved the feature that it magnetized the bit so screws would stay on it making install much easier. This is not something my 1/4" driver does, I have to hold the screw or it just falls off. Discovering this, I reached out to ifixit for clarification, and they said the 1/4" driver is meant to magnetize the bits just like the 3mm driver, and sent me a replacement 1/4" driver. The replacement driver arrived and behaved exactly the same as my original. I told ifixit, and they sent yet another, with the same result. At this point I honestly believe the service rep is wrong and the 1/4" driver is not meant to magnetize the bits, either that or something weird is going wrong here. To clarify, the magnet holds the bit in very well, almost too well, and it can be hard to remove, but screws just fall off. I have tested the bits when stuck to a different magnet and they can pick up screws then.
  10. I work for a theater company and we used to do live theater. Given our current world situation, this is no longer possible with large gatherings impossible in our area for the next months. We are trying to come up with a good system for potentially watching a show remotely. We have tried using a logitech webcam, but it can't handle the contrast of light and dark areas, and isn't meant to capture well at 20 feet away. We have also tried a wyze security camera which worked better, but it was only viewable on the app, not desktop, and we couldn't share the video. Neither of these options gave us audio either. We can get good audio, we used to run it to our lobby, but in this case we need to connect it with a video and broadcast it. If you have any thoughts, that would be wonderful.
  11. I do. From what I could tell from their website, the Mac version has the included menus, but for some reason the Windows version doesn't.
  12. I have been looking for a good bluray software player for my computer. Years ago I was given a license for Macgo for windows, and I have been using that, but there seems to be an issue with the windows version that it cannot use the built in bluray menu. Instead it gives this very generic menu (see image). The problem with the menu it uses is that none of the chapters are labeled. This makes finding specific episodes of a tv show very challenging or trying to watch bonus features. Does anyone know if there is a way to enable the bluray menu with this player? If not, can anyone recommend a good program for playing blurays? Paid or free. (I have tried the free versions of Leawo, DAPlayer, Cyberlink, and Aurora) Of the others I've tried they either performed poorly, had the same menu problem or I didn't figure out; if you think I should give one of them another shot, lets talk.
  13. I noticed something new with Chrome in the last week, and I'm not sure when it happened, but I like it. When I was on a website preparing to make a new account on this site, I filled in my desired user name, and prepared to enter one of my go-to passwords for trivial sites (I know this isn't the best way). Anyway, once I clicked in the password field, a new dialogue from chrome popped up suggesting a long random looking string of characters for a password that it would then keep. For better or worse I've been letting google keep track of almost all of my passwords for me for years now, and it's very handy, and seems to be fairly secure. But this password generation isn't something I've seen before. Is this a new feature they're rolling out to compete with companies like Lastpass and others? Is this better, worse, worth using, etc?
  14. I made a post on Moddb where I downloaded it from and the developer has responded to comments there in the past but it's a 5 year old mod so who knows when/if they will get back to me. Just figured I'd post here too in case anyone had any suggestions.
  15. I was interested in playing some Diablo 2 again and wanted to make it a bit more fun with the Single Player Enhancement Mod. After installing Lord of Destruction I updated it to 1.13c which is the patch the mod needs to run properly (according to their page). I was able to get the base game running fine either by forcing windowed mode or running it in windows xp compatibility mode and fullscreen. I then installed PlugY because that is necessary as a base for this mod to work. I was no longer able to get it working in fullscreen at any compatibility, but it would still run in windowed mode. Finally, I installed the mod itself and I was able to start the game but as soon as I tried to play an existing character or start a new character it would pop up an error, unhandled exception. After some tinkering and no luck I tried a fresh install of everything. As of now the game seems to run normally with all of the PlugY features, but even though the SPEM is installed, none of its features seem to be active. If anyone knows why this mod isn't working for me or has some troubleshooting ideas that would be great! Also, if anyone has ideas of how to get it running in fullscreen mode that would also be wonderful.
