  1. For OS Win 10, but other than that she doesn't have specific games in mind, she just wants it to be able to perform decently all around with games from 2010 to current. For programs, I already mentioned the ones she uses for work. She's not a video or audio content creator, but she just wants to have a PC that can be useful for a few years
  2. Budget (including currency): 1300 CAD Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Excel, word, would like it to be a jack-of-all-trades pc Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Already has: Monitor, keyboard, mouse. Wants: 2tb storage, 32gb memory. Thanks to anyone who can help!
  3. Alright, I did another fresh install and made sure to cleanly install all drivers and windows updates. That seems to have fixed the driver software crashing as well as the sound. The only remaining issue is the Oculus software crashing the computer when it runs
  4. No, the other issues remain. I haven't had the chance to test the sound issue
  5. Actually nvm, turns out it was an unrelated problem doing me from loading destiny 2. The only software so far tested that crashes my computer is Oculus
  6. I can't even get to the main menu of a game. The noise ramp cycle starts as soon as I power the computer on, and I can't seem to find a causal link to what makes it happen
  7. Motherboard: Gigabyte B450 AORUS PRO WiFi Graphics Card: ASRock VCX RX 5700 XT Challenger
  8. Well, I got my newly upgraded rig a fresh installation of windows, installed the drivers, and now it's going black every few minutes saying "display driver stopped responding and has recovered". It also freezes up and crashes every time I try to run a game (Oculus being the only game software yet installed so idk if it affects others. I also noticed that there is a strange background hum that is coming from my speakers that ramps up louder and louder before immediately cutting back to quiet and then eventually ramping up again. Not sure if that's related. I've tried DDUing the drivers and reinstalling them, but the problem remains. Really not sure what this is.
  9. Not a clue, I just noticed it was showing text on screen all of a sudden
  10. In the website it says it's ryzen 3000 series compatible, and as for Ram, I have them plugged into DDR4_1 and 2 as shown in this pic
  11. It's an atx board and atm I have it plugged into the PCIEX16, but i'll try the PCIEX4
  12. Ohhh, that makes sense, i'll see what happens if I leave it on for a bit.
  13. Yeah, I did. It told me to make a thread, so I did
  14. Today the new parts for my pc arrived and I went to work taking it apart and putting it back together, but now it won't post. The motherboard lights up, system fans and cpu Fan goes, but the gpu fans stay still, and no signal gets to the monitor, even when plugged into the motherboard hdmi. Not really sure what's gone wrong. I've tried with and without the gpu installed. My new parts are: g.skill 2x8 gb ddr4 3200MHz ram gigabyte B450 pro wifi motherboard Ryzen 7 3700x cpu and asrock rx 5700 xt gpu the equipment I already had that i'm still using are my drives and a 750W psu, in a case obv I have no clue what to try to make this work
  15. Update: I finally got all the components (though I decided on a Gigabyte B450 AORUS PRO instead for motherboard) and assembled it. The motherboard lights up, system fans and cpu Fan goes, but the gpu fans stay still, and no signal gets to the monitor, even when plugged into the motherboard hdmi. Not really sure what's gone wrong.
  16. Final question: I'm looking online and it looks like for the GPU there's ASRock and MSI selling the same card. Would there be any difference between the two? neither has particularly great reviews. https://www.newegg.ca/msi-radeon-rx-5700-xt-rx-5700-xt-mech-oc/p/N82E16814137465?Description=Radeon RX 5700 XT&cm_re=Radeon_RX_5700_XT-_-14-137-465-_-Product https://www.newegg.ca/asrock-radeon-rx-5700-xt-rx-5700-xt-challenger-d-8g-oc/p/N82E16814930020?Description=ASRock Radeon RX 5700 XT Challenger&cm_re=ASRock_Radeon_RX_5700_XT_Challenger-_-14-930-020-_-Product
  17. Thanks so much, you've been extremely helpful!
  18. Will do! How capable would you predict the system will be after the upgrade?
  19. Thanks! Two questions: How much will the new ram make a difference in performance? How capable could I expect this build to be?
