  1. I'm using Fedora 22 and I'm trying to get my Xbox 360 controller to run. Nothing has worked so far, and I can't get it to work. Whenever I plug it in, all it does is sit there and blink all four of the lights on the controller. I tried configuring qjoypad but that was a nightmare and I got no farther on the issue. While I'm at it, is there a way to get Xbox One controllers to work as well? Thanks.

  3. Hi there! I'm giving an informative speech on how to build a PC but I cannot find any articles that really give a good explanation of PC building. I wanted to use a credible source (aka not /r/pcmasterrace) but I couldn't really find anything that explained PC building as a whole. I really appreciate any help and any articles you may find Thanks!
  4. Excuse my illiteracy with internet and networking, but how do I check this?
  5. 72 Mbps. And no, it's not only my PC. My whole family complained about this issue, so I decided to put an end to it. I tried an ethernet connection and the speedtest.net website couldn't even load.
  6. Hi! Allow me to explain the situation here: my family has a lot of technology, so naturally we need better speeds. Recently, we asked the service of an ISP that could offer speeds up to 11 Mbps down, compared to the previous 1.5 Mbps down we had before. We had two separate access points (radios) with different routers for each (1 per radio) installed fairly recently. One is a Belkin router, one is a Netgear router. I also have a Netgear extender for the upstairs of the house, hooked up via WPS to the Netgear router. So, our ISP is supposed to be offering speeds that are at most 11 megabits per second (about 1.4 MB/s, if I'm correct). We paid for this package, so naturally, we want these speeds. Unfortunately, this isn't the case. I just ran a speed test that had our speeds at .45 Mbps down, and .54 Mbps up. I tried calling our ISP. A rep said to change all of our router channels to channel 11, which we did (I also changed the extender to channel 11). While this did improve speeds for a while, now the internet is having an issue where the internet download speeds go up to about 400-450 KB/s (which is honestly great for us, as our old ISP went to only 150 KB/s max) but then slows to a measly 30 KB/s for random periods of time. Right now, the internet is hitting a low period. This is odd, since last night we were able to stream Netflix from my PC without hiccups (I believe the max download was 450 KB/s, not sure). I just ran a speed test, and it turns out that the speeds are even slower than I thought: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4961651682 Is there some way to explain the changes in speeds? Is there a way to fix them? If so, please let me know. I only have tonight and tomorrow to fix the issues. Thanks.
  7. Hello! I am fixing this laptop for a friend and she already bought a new battery because it wasn't charging before. I installed the new battery and I even held the power button down for 30 seconds before putting it in and all. So, the laptop now powers on but it will not charge. The charger's output reads " 19V/4.74 A" and the laptop's reads "DC 19V/2.37 A." I'm wondering if she needs a new laptop or a new charger... Thanks!
  8. This. Just make sure that the PSU fan isn't suffocated by the carpet, depending on how thick it is. I have to set my PC down on a book whenever my PC is on the floor.
  9. I am doing basic college classes. Comp 1 and General Psych. I'm in high school so these classes only really require a word processor. I know Mint has LibreOffice and Arch and a lot of other distros can get them easily. I would perfer to have a word processor preinstalled.
  10. Wow! What a great idea. Thanks man. I will definitely install that. /s
  11. Hi all! I am starting online college soon and I need a fast, trusty, and lightweight Linux distro. I was going to upgrade my HP Pavilion dv5 (4GB DDR3, an AMD APU [sorry, I forget] and a 500GB HDD) with a 256 GB SSD so that my PC is as fast as it can get. First off, what's the best SSD for the money? And then, what's a great, easy to set up Linux distro that is good for schooling? Thanks! Probably should have mentioned that I have worked with Linux before. I have installed Ubuntu, Mint, Elementary OS, and I am going to learn how to setup Arch. I just wanted a simple OS that would work out of the gate. I will probably go with Mint MATE or Fedora with GNOME.
  12. Learned my lesson there. Cleared CMOS and reset settings. I'm an idiot
  13. Alright, I'm a little worried but I'm sure I got this right. I rebooted into my motherboard's UEFI utility and I went to the CPU settings. There was an option for CPU overclocking that was disabled. I enabled it and set the max speed for 4.2 GHz. I am a little worried because my CPU is frequently going to 3 GHz of usage all the way down to 1.03 GHz. Did I do something wrong? Or is Windows just making changes? Thanks again!
  14. I am going to crossfire two R7 260X's and I saw that some people use a Crossfire bridge. I don't think I need one as my motherboard says that it has "AMD Crossfire Technology" but I wanted to double check before I order it. My system specs are: CPU: AMD Athlon X4 760K 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor Motherboard: ASRock FM2A88X Extreme4+ ATX FM2+ Motherboard Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R7 260X 2GB Video Card Case: BitFenix Comrade ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply Wireless Network Adapter: Asus PCE-N10 802.11b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter Thanks!
