  1. So I ordered my tickets for LTX because I've been wanting to go ever since it started but an internship I am doing interferes with it and as much as I would love to go to LTX, my career is more important. I ordered the LTX Merch pack and two day pass to the event. I still would like the merch pack but I can't go so I'm not sure if it could be mailed to me? I live in the US. Either way. Just wanted to post this here as I could get more opinions.
  2. Thank you that's really helpful. I am planning on using the PoE injectors though with the recent price hikes I might look at getting a 5 pack and a PoE switch.
  3. So, I’m setting up a new home network for my parents and at first I was just gonna use Google WiFi (as much as it creeped me out) and I was gonna use power line Ethernet to get Ethernet to a couple of desktops. Well, since then two things have to come to the forefront. Firstly, they have a home security system that I was told ran over WiFi but what I later realized is that is has its own network and it’s causing interference issues with the rest of the WiFi in the House. So anything Mesh is out of the question. Secondly, I did some testing and the power inside their home is just way too old to be reliable for Powerline Ethernet. So...... I found the Ubiquiti networking gear an extremely interesting package. Specifically their Unifi gear. I need this network to have full coverage of 3 separate areas of the house so 3 access points are necessary and one of them has to have an Ethernet passthrough for a desktop in the back bedroom. Most like the AC Pro. I slowly realized that the best option would be to go full Unifi with the switch, router, and access points. But now, I’m worried about powering it. I’m pretty sure it should be fine. But I’m a little worried. I’m not great with this kind of stuff but I’m trying to get better. So far the plan is to use all this gear: 24 port Unifi Switch (non-PoE) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZBLO0U/ref=ox_sc_act_title_9?smid=A3SQ9YFE6CSCS0&psc=1 USG - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LV8YZLK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_8?smid=AANSFONOCR8T3&psc=1 4* 48V .5A PoE injectors - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HXT8MNI/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=A3LGJ9ZB5RSN9T&psc=1 And this case that has some fans in it - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FKOW4LS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A3FG64J8IOS59V&psc=1 So that’s all the main stuff pulling power. Those 4 injectors will be going into 3 access points and a Unifi Cloud Key. I also need a power strip/surge protector for all this. I was thinking about this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00077INZU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 I’m not sure if the 20A would be better. P.S. I want to know all the thought and calculations behind your answer so I can learn. Thank you!!!!
  4. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XT6WQCJ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=A2YLYLTN75J8LR&psc=1 This is the monitor I am looking at. I actually have a Gsync monitor already. I am looking into an HDR monitor and Gsync HDR monitors are either absurdly expensive or non-existent. I really do love nvidia (I already have my GTX 1070 Strix), but one thing that I am getting totally sick of is Nvidia's proprietary hardware with Gsync. Also, with the Xbox One X and apparently maybe even the PS4 Pro supporting Freesync I don't see how Gsync HDR especially as it stands now is worth it over a nice Freesync monitor. I will admit, I'm pissed about Vega being totally mediocre.
  5. My power bill is actually extremely low. even if my PC ran at 1000W I'd barely see the difference since I have so many other things in the house that take up more electricity (I have a lot of receivers and amps for powering speakers)
  6. I want to but Vega's so absurdly expensive. You can't get an Vega 64 for less than $650.
  7. I have a bad history with LAN connectors that aren't Intel, does anyone have experience with it? https://www.amazon.com/BIOSTAR-X370-Motherboard-Model-X370GTN/dp/B071YW7LBG/ref=sr_1_13?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1512925228&sr=1-13&keywords=am4+mini+itx
  8. Ok, it might be a tight fit but that'll work. I've had that with weird GPUs that have a 6+8 pin before.
  9. I need a blower style card for a mini-itx build. I was gonna try and get something current generation but Vega was a total disappointment. I want an AMD card because freesync HDR monitors are such a better price than Gsync ones. Sadly even looking last gen AMD doesn't have much for people with mini-itx builds. I think I might just go with a used 980ti. I have a GTX 1070 Strix (the best after market 1070 :-} fight me) which I use for my regular rig for VR and such but I really need something to bring with me places and I'm not into laptops at all. So to clear it up, get a GTX 980ti and deal with choppy frame rates, spend too much on Vega, cut my losses by downgrading to an RX 580 or even lower, and basically just find something to survive since Vega seems ****ing amazing but our Nvidia overlords are keeping it from us as long as they can.
  10. I'm working on a mini-itx build with Ryzen and I am confused about what kind of CPU power cable I need for this board: https://www.amazon.com/BIOSTAR-X370-Motherboard-Model-X370GTN/dp/B071YW7LBG/ref=sr_1_13?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1512925228&sr=1-13&keywords=am4+mini+itx I've never had a board that didn't use at least a 4-pin CPU connector before. If I've using a modular power supply do I need anything special to make this work? Any suggestions? I can link the pcpartpicker list if need be.
  11. I recently switched my 4690K in my system out for my 5820K. I have the same OS, same drives, same everything. What I have noticed are a bunch of major slowdowns that would happen at random. Also added in a few more PCIe expansion cards bit only 2 more than I had before and the jump from 16 PCIe lanes to 28 should allow that. What I have been experiencing are major slow downs just using the OS. Randomly my mouse will freeze up here and there. I also am having a lot, a lot more screen tearing in games. I also have been getting low frame rates in games that I use to play on both CPUs just fine! I used to play MGS5 fine using my 5820K and my GTX770 but now I'm having issues with the same specs but a GTX1070. There should be now issues. I'm debating reinstalling drivers for everything or even just formatting my system and starting over. I just has been acting weird. No malware that I can see. No virus. Nothing. I also have been getting a weird issues where games think my monitor is 1080p when it's a 1440p monitor. I also have had major issues that it will display games, programs, anything on my other monitor which is an old 900p monitor. It's very weird. Any suggestions? I thought it could be attributed to the lower single core performance of my CPU but that couldn't be the cause of all of this.
  12. I was trying to bootcamp windows onto my MacBook and it kept failing due to this error. It kept happening so I eventually gave up. Bootcamp had automatically deleted the partition for windows when I started it up the next time but the last time it failed. Now I keep seeing this: As you can see. It thinks the drive is bigger than 1TB and it won't let me resize the partition even to it's original size. Help? I've done first aid on each partition, ran multiple checks, even tried to revert to a TimeMachine backup of the drive. Still didn't work.
  13. I like the A6300 though a good lens is expensive. Good suggestion. I may pick one up. Though the price of the G7 is enticing. Might try and save for the Sony because it seems better overall and is smaller to boot.
  14. I currently have a Nikon D3300. Though a lens would make things better its really that the tracking is pretty bad. I tried tracking and unless I literally stood perfectly still it kept stuttering.
  15. I have been wanting to upgrade my camera for a while. A long while. But I've been annoyed because it feels like you have to pay out the arse to get anything better than 1080p video. I have been looking into either getting a current gen camera or a refurbished/used last gen camera. I've though about refurbished BlackMagic Cinema cameras but because I'll be recording by myself I kind of like those flip out screens on the Canon DSLRs. Any suggestion for a really good 4K camera around $1000? I want some good color range. Just generally I want crisp, beautiful video to edit with.
  16. I am literally writing this on m 2012 MacBook Pro 13 inch and will soon be upgrading to a 15 inch 2016. I actually really like Apple. I have issues with certain things they do. I think they kind of lost there way for a while after the iPhone 5(s) and definitely after the last tower Mac Pro.
  17. I watched quite a few reviews and multiple people mentioned their iPhone 7's dying in water after extended exposure. I don't have anything against the iPhone 7. I actually really like it. I just thought it was weird for linus who is such a big android fan. Also, my question was more about the watch. I think the iPhone 7 is great, the watch not so much.
  18. I actually built this exact thing! I it running Linux and Windows in VMs on an X99 board and a hackintosh Z97 system! Though I will say one thing, hackintosh is completely impractical. I don't understand these people who that spend thousands of dollars on a hackintosh system that has all the problems that you are trying to get away from with MacOS. My advice. Buy an old MacPro and hook it up to two other systems for Linus and Windows. Hackintoshing is not worth the time, money, and effort when the result is never "really" stable. I've been building Hackintoshes for about 3 years now. As much as I love the idea, I always run into major issues that in the end I ask myself, "Why did I even try this?"
  19. I was very surprised to see that Linus was still using the iPhone 7 in all the most recent videos. Especially since he had so much praise for the Galaxy S7 and so little for the iPhone. I especially remember his gripes over the Apple Watch. I myself have thought about moving back to iOS for my phone for while but was planning on waiting till the Apple finally adopts wireless charging, non-LCD screens, better water resistance, and a few more small improvements that are said to be coming in the next iteration. I've kind of gotten tired of Android Phones that are better than iPhones for about a year and then never get another update (I'm looking at you Samsung). I haven't watched WAN show in a couple weeks due to an extra large workload but I have stopped in and watched the main videos. Has he mentioned it at all? It also seemed weird because his greatest praise for it was mostly related to its use in conjunction with a MacBook which he has not been using. It just seemed interesting to me and I'd like to hear his reasoning as a major Android enthusiast.
  20. I had just noticed this the last few weeks. Normally would take my iPad to class each day to take notes and so forth but I recently started bringing my old MacBook to class because I have had to use more USB drives which obviously an iPad can't do anything with. My dorm is the farthest one away from the router and to be completely honest, I end up just using data if I do something on my phone because the wifi is so crappy. I usually do all my work on my desktop anyway and I have that hooked up over ethernet. I even have my iPad hooked up to ethernet with a bunch of adapters. What I noticed was after using the MacBook for a few months, it was the only device that got a solid connection from the router. It obviously isn't amazing. It's not like I would stream games from my PC to it but it's better than my phone or my iPad which can't even load a webpage. Why does this 2012 MacBook Pro 13inch have a better wifi card than my completely new Galaxy S7 and iPad Pro?
  21. Same here, with come overclcoking i don't see it being outdated for a while
  22. So I had heard rumblings about the LG Watch Sport for a while and I was really interested. I actually have an extra SIM card laying around and I have a data pool plan so it won't affect my bill each month. I like the Sport's usefulness as a full device all on its own. I would be pairing it with a Galaxy S7 which has suited me rather well. I really just want a smart watch so I don't have to pull my phone out to see messages. I am also hoping it will have functionality when I am away from my phone. I use android pay inconsistently but the NFC on the Sport would be nice. The biggest thing I am running into is the price. I thought it would be launching at $250, not $350! I have been saving for a while. I have around $700 so I obviously have enough play money to get it but I have also been planning to buy a new monitor and my 2012 MacBook Pro 13inch is getting long in the tooth for the Final Cut Editing I like to do. I'm asking actual smart watch owners: Have you found your smart watch worth it? Has it really improved your life? Do you think these new watches are worth the price bump?
  23. I just took out my system that has been very stable for about a year now and made some changes. I unplugged all the USB devices I had been using, all cables from the video card, etc. I removed the video card, Ethernet nic, and replaced the GPU with an older one. Now the system is cycling on its boot. Turning on for a second or two with no post and it just doesnt seem to work no matter what I do (reset the CMOS,switch GPU, etc) Specs: i5- 4690K MSI Z97 SLI Plus 16 GBs (4x4) mix matched ram (two sets of two) a few SSDs Asus GTX 1070 Strix PNY GTX 770 Signature Edition Intel Ethernet NIC NZXT Case (don't remember)
  24. This is an upgrade. I saved this money for a VR headset but now that I have it I am debating whether that is really what I should put it towards.
