  1. TLDR: Which is the best option to play games with my LG B6 on PC at 4k@60Hz: RGB Full, YCbCr 444, or YCbCr 442? Hello everyone, I am having trouble setting up HDR with my TV. My TV is an LG B6 OLED, and I've got it connected to my PC with two GeForce 980 Ti's in SLi on Windows 10 64bit (All graphics drivers and windows updates are up to date). I have set all my B6's HDMI ports to allow a full color range in the TV General settings. My HDMI cable is capable of 4k@60Hz output, it's an AmazonBasics 15 ft cable. In the Nvidia Control Panel, under Display>Change Resolution, I have the option to change color output, format, and range. At 4k@60Hz I have the option to select up to RGB 8bpc Full dynamic range, or YCbCr 4:4:4 8bpc Limited dynamic range, or YCbCr 4:4:2 8bpc Limited dynamic range. I have read that YCbCr 444 is the best choice, however, in the nvidia control panel, only Limited output dynamic range is selectable and Full is not available to click. This causes my blacks to not be true black (ie. with all the lights off in the dark my TV should appear to be off, since it is OLED, but instead is almost pure black). When I choose RGB 8bpc Full dynamic range, the colours appear better, and also my TV's blacks are true black (ie. the TV looks completely switched off when displaying a pure black image in a dark room). The problem is when using RGB, I am unable to switch on HDR in Windows 10 settings under Settings>System>Display. Also, when I use YCbCr and switch on HDR in windows settings, the colours become completely washed out, and the screen becomes tinted slightly blue-ish. Could someone tell me what's the right settings to use when PC gaming on an LG B6? Thank you very much.
  2. Oh I may be misinformed because I thought that all the speakers need to be at the same height level. Maybe it's just OCD on my part
  3. Thanks for the quick replies! My TV has an option for HDMI ARC or Optical. I personally prefer Optical as it gives less setup headaches. I've attached a picture of my setup (It shows the Bose Soundbar before I returned it). I don't really have much space to the left or right of my TV (I could shift the shelf right but would prefer not to do that). I was hoping for something minimalist although I am considering the option of having bookshelf speaks sitting on stands to the left and right of the TV. I threw 5.1 out as an option because I feel it would be troublesome to keep all 5 speakers on the same level, and a center speaker would probably block the middle bottom of the TV if I put it there.
  4. Hey everyone, I'm looking for a sound system to compliment a 55" LG TV I've just bought. My main use will be gaming on the PS4, PC, and WiiU. My space is very limited as I live in a rental basement suite. Also, I can't blast my speakers loudly. 5.1 systems are not possible for me as wiring would get very messy. I'm looking for a 2.1 system that can provide excellent sound quality (a subwoofer is important to me as I really love bass). If possible I'd like to keep the budget low, but I'd like to have some very high quality sound, so I'm willing to stretch my budget to CAD$1000. Initially I purchased a Bose Soundtouch 300, but I returned it because it didn't feel like it was worth the $1000 pricetag. Bose's subwoofer costs another $1000, totalling $2000 for a basic 3.1 soundbar+subwoofer system. The soundbar alone honestly didn't sound THAT much better than my in-built LG B6 tv speakers. I know that would make me seem like I don't know what I'm talking about, because I know most in-built TV speakers are terrible, but honestly it was only slightly better and was definitely not worth $1000. Thank you for any recommendations for a 2.1 speaker setup you could give me!
  5. Hey guys, I'm planning on buying a 55" LG B6 soon and I would like a solid sound system to couple with it. I'm mainly a PC gamer, but I'm hoping to move into the living room. I would like to use the TV with my PC, ps4, and Wii U for games and movies. I have no idea what's a good sound system to pick up as reviews online are scattered over so many products, so it's hard to narrow it down. I hope someone here can help me as I'm not an expert at sound systems and really know very little. The only brand I feel I can trust to deliver is a Bose sound system as they always seem to sound so good in stores, however, they're ridiculously overpriced. At the same time, I really just want to get something that delivers on quality without Bose's crazy pricetags. (Their soundbar and subwoofer combo sounded amazing but was priced at CAD$900 each, totalling $1800 just for a simple sound system.) The only 5.1 speaker experience I've had was long ago with the Logitech Z5500 (predecessor to the current Z906). I'm looking for something compact like the Z906 or even more compact like a soundbar. I don't have enough space for big tower speakers. My budget could go to over CAD$1000 (USD$750), but cheaper would be better if it can be done without sacrificing quality. Thank you very much for any suggestions!

  7. After reading the instruction manual that came along with the K5 amp carefully, I'm very certain that this amp is meant to work in conjunction with a DAC. It states in the manual that the USB port on the back is for connecting a "docked Fiio player or DAC to a computer", meaning that it simply passes along a connected DAC to the PC. Hence my PC is not recognizing anything. I think the K5 was a poor choice for my needs. I think I'm gonna go ahead and place an order for a Fiio E10K Olympus, that seems to be recommended. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00LP3AMC2/ref=s9_simh_gw_g107_i1_r?pf_rd_m=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=0HQ18Z0YG8CHQ9Y4M3E7&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=b06971ce-9992-44c1-9ee0-eb9792e71b5e&pf_rd_i=desktop
  8. Thanks for staying with me this long I really appreciate it. So I've connected the K5 amp to my PC with the USB cable provided, and I have ensured that the amp is powered on and the flip switch on the front is set to "Input DOCK" (I have also tried with input LINE) with "HIGH gain". The only connections on the back are for the AC power cable and the USB-B input. My headphones are also jacked into the front as well. My Windows 10 PC simply does not recognize that any device at all has been plugged in. I have even tried it on another laptop (Windows 10 as well) to be sure. In the Sound tab, no device is recognized. Here is a picture of the Sound tab and my Device Manager: http://imgur.com/a/oKIJ3 The Realtek stuff is related to my onboard sound. There are no available Fiio drivers for PC either, so I'm really at a loss here.
  9. Is there a way for me to turn off the amp on the onboard soundcard? Well, at this point I'm guessing it's just easier to buy a DAC?
  10. This is the amazon page for the amp: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01BBX1NNM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2M1T9YSBKVQUY Here's a support page that shows the inputs on the back of the amp: http://www.head-fi.org/products/fiio-k5-desktop-headphone-amplifier/reviews/15203 Unfortunately I don't think it alone can act as a DAC, I've tried plugging in the amp to the PC with the USB cable provided with it, but Windows does not recognize that a device has been plugged in. Maybe I'm doing it wrong? The only drivers I can get from Fiio are for their X-series players and not the K5 amp.
  11. I connected the PC to the amp using the standard audio jack. It's connected from the green jack on the back of the PC then converted to a red and white composite cable which then goes into the amp.
  12. Hey everyone, I just bought a Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro along with a Fiio K5 Amp. When I plug the headphones directly to my PC with onboard sound (motherboard is an Asus Sabertooth X99), the sound is crystal clear with no static sounds even at maximum volume. The problem is the DT 990 Pro takes quite a bit to power and even at my PC's max volume, it sounds like it needs more volume/kick. So I got the Fiio K5 Amp along with it to power it up. Now with the headphones plugged into the K5 amp set to HIGH gain, I'm hearing a constant static feedback. Its quite apparent and it blips when I mouse over things. It sounds even more glaringly obvious when I boot up games. I'm quite certain it's not the amp as I've tried connecting it to an iPhone and setting it to HIGH gain and there was no static. So I have a hunch that it's probably coming from the electrostatic emissions from within the PC. Will buying a DAC solve this problem for me? If so, which DAC would you recommend for my setup (mainly for PC gaming)? Thank you very much for your help!
  13. Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll go with the Oppo PM 3 because I really need my headphones to be silent.
  14. My budget is CAD$250-400. And I will only be using them at home with my desktop, and only ever connected to the desktop PC.
  15. Hey everyone. I'm currently using a PC that has no soundcard, because I have no space for one due to my SLi setup. My motherboard is the Asus X99 Sabertooth which has decent onboard sound (I think). I'm looking for a new pair of headphones to replace my very very old Sony MDR-XB500 over-ear headphones (Reference: http://www.cnet.com/products/sony-mdr-xb500-black/specs/ ). I saw some reviews for the Logitech Artemis Spectrum G933 7.1 Surround Headphones (Reference: http://gaming.logitech.com/en-ca/product/g933-7-1-surround-sound-gaming-headset ), and I bought it yesterday because I thought the surround sound headphones thing was some new technology I'm missing out on in gaming. Upon trying it out at home, I was very disappointed with the lackluster sound quality. I also felt like the surround sound effect was a big gimmick that really muffled most sounds. I tried to play the latest Doom 2016 with the surround sound feature activated and realized the feature wasn't really adding much. Honestly even with the feature off it felt like the "surround sound" effect was already present, even with my settings set to stereo (I could tell if an enemy was behind me). Also, I'm not sure if this is the fault of the headphones, but they were relatively much softer in terms of volume compared to my old Sony MDR-XB500. Even at max volume it felt like it wasn't loud enough. I figure I don't want any part of this surround sound fad, but I really want to upgrade my sound experience and get the best. I would really like to have crisp and clear sounds, with strong bass. Which pair of headphones would you recommend for a huge fps/moba/dark souls player who also enjoys the occasional music with strong bass? Will I need an external soundcard device (DAC) to support the higher end headphones (I can't use a sound card, my PC does not have the room for one)? Also, was I unable to experience the surround sound effect due to my lack of a sound card? Thank you very much in advance.
