  1. Crystal Disk Info showed a healthy disk and chkdsk didn't come up with anything. I'm going to mess around with deleting old programs/unnecessary programs to see if it makes a difference. I've been meaning to get a new mass storage drive anyways so buying a new one and testing if its the drive or some program on the drive is an option for me. Once I'm done messing around with it for tonight I'll mark this thread Solved as the major trouble of my games freezing has been solved by moving them to a different drive. Thanks for the help Moonzy!
  2. So I didn't unplug my HDD but I did move my Steam installation from my HDD to an SSD. With games that are installed on my SSD, I don't seem to be crashing anymore and my Drive activity isn't constantly 100% but I still need to play a bit more to be confident. Although I am starting to believe the problem is related to my HDD as I do remember moving my Valorant installation to my SSD to fix a similar freezing problem and Valorant hasn't froze since then. What did you do to fix your SSD problem?
  3. So during the freeze, no spikes are happening. The GPU usage goes back down which is as expected as its not being used during the freeze. When I froze, all my friends lost connection from me as I was hosting. I don't know if that's because the problem is network related or because the game is no longer detecting that I'm online during the freeze. One thing I did notice with the monitoring is that during gameplay, my HDD is at 100% while my other two drivers are at 0%. The game i was playing is installed on my non-boot SSD. I never understood Disk usage from the task manager so I don't know if that's anything to note.
  4. All the drives have at minimum 50 GB of free space. I'll play some sessions of games with task manager and Radeon device monitoring open to see if anything abnormal occurs.
  5. I'm using a Samsung EVO 250 GB as my boot drive. I also have games on a WD Blue 500 GB SSD and a 1 TB HDD. The games this problem is occurring in are on a variety of these 3 storage devices.
  6. My games have been freezing with no errors. The freezes seem to be corresponding with Steam not responding. However, the freezes also occur in games outside of Steam such as League of Legends. During the freeze, I can still hear ambient noises from the game such as BGM and environment noises. When the freeze ends, it seems like all the sound effects that occurred during the freeze play at once such as abilities or gunfire. In games where reconnecting isn't possible such as Monster Hunter World or Fall Guys, I get disconnected from the game. If I leave the freeze alone, I will generally unfreeze in 10-20 seconds. If I click or try to alt-tab, the freeze will result in the game not responding and crashing. My build is as follows: Ryzen 5 3600X ROG Strix B450-F 16 GB GSkill RAM XFX 5700XT RAW Corsair CV650 Bronze Windows 10 64-bit My bios is fully updated with corresponding chipset and network drivers. My GPU drivers are also updated. GPU and CPU temps aren't high. Programs that are usually open are Discord, Firefox, Steam, Avira, Malwarebytes, and my Keyboard and Mouse programs. I'm not using a VPN. My attempted solutions so far are as follows: Scanned computer with Avira and Malwarebytes with no results DDU and reinstalling GPU drivers Disabling antivirus during gameplay Reinstalling Steam I don't recall anything changing/installs happening during the time these problems started. Any and all help is appreciated. EDIT: It seems that other programs are having similarish problems such as Windows file explorer not opening a folder for 10-20 seconds then opening multiple instances of said folder, or attempting to open the Steam overlay multiple times for it to wait 10-20 seconds and then open and close the steam overlay multiple times. Don't know if the game freezing problems are related but additional details none the less. EDIT 2: It does seem that the Windows problem and the game problem are related. As I was connecting to a friends game while browsing Windows File Explorer, both the game and Windows File Explorer froze (but did not go into "not responding" state). Other programs such as Discord did not freeze. EDIT 3: One more edit as I just remembered some more details on what has occurred after the freezes. As I had said, in some games I completely disconnect from games and their corresponding servers. Before I realized that the freezes weren't permanent, I would force close my game and steam. When I attempted to reopen Steam, it would attempt to update and then say an error stating that I am not connected to the internet. The only fix for this was restarting my computer. In CSGO, after I restarting my computer and I attempted to reconnect to the game, CSGO would fail to connect to the match stating network problems. I haven't seen these problems for a while as I have learned if I just wait, the freeze will go away.
  7. My specs are AMD 6300 ASUS r7 260x MSI Motherboard I believe WD 1TB
  8. With Windows 10 coming up in the next few days, I tried to update to the latests Windows 8.1 updates. However, when I update and restart, my computer goes to a black flickering screen that only shows the mouse when I move it along with the loading circle appearing sometimes. CTRL+ALT+DEL does not work for me, and the only way I've been able to fix this is to do a system restore. I've tried singling out a certain update, but most updates seem to cause this. I then tried to simply download only the update that lets me reserve Windows 10 manually (KB2919442 into KB2919355) but now it says these updates are not aplicable to my computer. I've ran SFC /scannow, and it was only unable to repair one thing (MSDTC.LOG). I also ran dism.exe which found nothing. When I did some searching for solutions, some people seemed to have solved it by messing with the NVIDIA Drivers, however I have no NVIDIA Drivers installed as I have an AMD graphics card. Also, when ever I do a system restore, the amount of updates that can be installed seem to always change. Earlier it was around 45, but now it is 10. When I check into what updates I have installed, there are only 3 updates. I attached some screenshots to show in order: Updates Available Optional Updates Available Updates Installed Any help would be appreciated as I'd like to reserve Windows 10 ASAP.
  9. Yes, my computer properties says windows is activated.
  10. I just tried doing as these links said to but it still failed. However the error code is different now. I am getting error code 80246010.
  11. It's not that I'm trying to actively reserve a copy of Windows 10. That is an important fact in my problem, but my main problem is that I have not been able to update anything at all in the past a few months. All windows updates I've tried have all failed.
  12. Yes my copy of Windows is legit. I had bought Windows 8 about a year ago when I was putting together my first computer from Best Buy I believe. Don't know where the disc is but I have the bootable USB as I didn't have a disc drive
  13. Hey guys, I've been having some annoying problems with updating Windows 8.1. Right now I have 74 updates (70 important, 4 optional) that I've been unable to download. Everytime I try to update, it will go smoothly until all of a sudden it stops and has the error of "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off computer". When I check my update history, I get two errors for the failed updates. Error Code 8007045B, and Error Code 80004004. And in the more recent tries of updating, instead of rebooting and going back to a normal windows, my computer cuts to a black screen with a cursor that only appears when I move my mouse. The only way I can fix this is doing the Shift F8 thing and restoring to an earlier windows. I've tried using the Windows Update Diagnostic but even though it says that some errors were fixed, I am still unable to update. I also ran a SFC scan, but it says that the corrupt files were unable to be fixed. I've been thinking of updating from a clean boot, or doing a system restore, but before I do those I want to get more opinions. Any help would be great, as these stopped updates are stopping me from reserving Windows 10. Many Thanks.
  14. I will probably upgrade to a better resolution monitor. I'm just doing this build now as I have some money, and the parts I'm picking give room for a lot of upgrade.
  15. 1. I might possibly overclock the GPU. With the CPU, I don't know if my motherboard is good enough 2. For an OS, I was thinking of wiping the Seagate 1TB I had that contained Windows 8.1, except keeping the OS. Peripherals I don't need. 3. In terms of color, I prefer white but to me Money>Appearance
