  1. Hello! This is my first computer build, and I'm just finalizing the build of it. I'm looking for it to be the best computer I can build for preferably below $1100. As for a benchmark, I want to run GTA V on high settings at 60FPS on 1080P. The Build so far: PCPartPicker part list CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($229.99 @ SuperBiiz) Motherboard: ASRock Z97 Anniversary ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($82.98 @ Newegg) Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($50.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($102.89 @ OutletPC) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($51.89 @ OutletPC) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE 3X Video Card ($319.99 @ Amazon) Case: Thermaltake Versa H34 ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.99 @ Amazon) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA GS 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($74.99 @ Micro Center) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 OEM (64-bit) ($86.98 @ OutletPC) Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WDN4800 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter ($37.24 @ Amazon) Total: $1097.93 Nothing is for sure, and I'm open to all suggestions! Thanks in advance! -Barms
  2. Thank you all, I'll use the MS tool and hopefully that works, otherwise I can just be patient.
  3. Hey Guys, I've had my copy reserved of Windows 10 for arguably ages, as soon as I saw the "Get Windows 10 App" I reserved. My PC meets the requirements, although it is a little older. For referenced it's a Dell Precision M6500 but that shouldn't make a difference. I have all the latest windows update, but why can't I get Windows 10 yet? Thank you, Barms EDIT: I'm running a legit verision of Windows 7 Professional.
  4. Yes, I do do a bit of streaming and editing, but not really a ton or anything of big magnitude. Haven't bought anything yet.
  5. Okay, this makes sense now. So, can I disable hypertheading on the Xeon (from time to time, not ever permanently) obviously 1 to 2 frames isn't a huge difference, but... Although still kind of feeling mixed emotions. You guys all bring up really good points though. Also, I didn't quite follow all this. I'm more or less a relative dummy when it comes to CPUs outside the Core series.
  6. Ya the future proofing is one thing that I think I like with the Xeon, the hyper-threading, etc. Does anyone have any idea why I've heard all this "anti-xeon" stuff, people have been really heckling me saying it isn't going to perform well...Especially for gaming. Thank you.
  7. Hey Guys! Currently finishing up the process of planing the building of a PC, and I think I have everything, somewhat tuned in, my one big question though is, Should I go with the Intel Xeon E3-1231 or the Intel Core i5-4690k For what's needed, here's the rest of my build: Permalink: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/KbDjMp CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($219.99 @ SuperBiiz) Motherboard: ASRock H97 Anniversary ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($74.65 @ OutletPC) Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($52.89 @ OutletPC) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($97.95 @ OutletPC) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($52.49 @ OutletPC) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE 3X Video Card ($329.99 @ Micro Center) Case: Thermaltake Versa H34 ATX Mid Tower Case ($63.99 @ SuperBiiz) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA GS 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($59.99 @ NCIX US) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 OEM (64-bit) ($86.98 @ OutletPC) Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WDN4800 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter ($37.24 @ Amazon) Total: $1076.16 I have been told I have an el-cheapo class mobo, and may need to upgrade it if I want to overclock. So, for ideally running GTA V at 60 frames on high settings, who is superior? Xeon, or Intel? I've been told the Xeon is more for data processing and thus will lag more in games, is this correct? Thank you!
  8. Bump, because I still would like someone to look at it please!
  9. From what I've learned about the r9 390, it performs about the same as the GTX 970, maybe a little better. But because it isn't a huge difference, I'm drawn away due to the red color scheme since I'm going with a Black/Blue build. My apologies, found it. Permalink: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/T3bbHx Changelog (as of 7/14/15) - GPU changed to Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE 3X Video Card -PSU changed to EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply -RAM changed to G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory I'm still waffling on GPU's, but still trying to get the best bang for my buck. Thank you to all who have contributed so far.
  10. Hmmm, can't find the permalink. But I changed, PSU, graphics card, and RAM. But I'm still looking for ways to save money.
  11. Alright Guys, all this input is amazing. I've updated the build as follows: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Barms/saved/#view=8rknTW Any other suggestions? What about this PSU? https://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-cx600m EDIT: Again, two 1080p monitors, GTA V for Benchmark. Open to all suggestions, thank you!
  12. Hi All, I've been a big fan of Linus for a while, but never really had any need for the forums. Now I'm building my own desktop, and I think I have a great setup, but even with all of Linus's videos I certainly don't know it all. I'm somewhat strapped for cash, I'd like to go no more than $1200. For a benchmark I'd say I'd like to play GTA V at 60 frames on high settings.Other than that it's you're normal steam games. I've built this so far, so I guess I'm really asking two things. a. Is the build really any good anyway? b. Can I change some parts and build a cheaper PC that performs the same. I appreciate all input! The Build I also will be needing another monitor, so if you have any cheap suggestions, I'd love that. Thank you.
