  1. I'm waiting till the thunderstorm stops before I turn on my tower. Trying not to take chances. I see I see, I remember briefly reading about holdup times when I built this system. I considered getting an ups a while back but the expense has held me back and frankly this is the first time in nearly 5 years that I've experienced a power outage/voltage drop situation. However... this has got me thinking about getting one. Thanks!
  2. I see I see, in the immediate aftermath I was able to shut down and nothing looked wrong. The system was also not under load, just idling if that helps. Thanks for your reply, my mind is a little more at east.
  3. Hi all, I was using my desktop when I noticed the lights in my room dim a little then return to full brightness. I assume there was some sort of power fluctuation, this is something I've never experienced before and I'm worried that something may have happened to my computer. This happened when it was only drizzling outside and by the time that this is posted, I'm in the midst of a full blown thunderstorm. After this power fluctuation, I immediately shut down my pc. It is plugged into a surge protector but that doesn't help in this kind of situation... i think. What damage could I have done to my computer, and what should I check for once I can get it running.
  4. Haha, but would it be on or off within seconds... it seems too fast, then again i dunno too much. Also this is a really really basic powerbank so it might not have this feature.
  5. I'm trying to be optimistic, it charged normally until the end so ... option b? the battery is low and the phone is drawing too much?
  6. I bought this little patriot fuel active 2600mah charger on sale on Black Friday hoping to keep it in my backpack as a quick top up for my Nexus 6p, which often dies about an hour before I finish my day. Today, I was charging my phone while at my desk from 0% and I as it got to around 67% the charger turned off. This was to be expected as 2600mah isn't nearly enough to fully charge the 6p but weirdly, it started charging again a couple of seconds afterwards, then turned off after another couple of seconds. It did this a couple of times before I unplugged it. Is this normal? I'm not really sure what's happening. The box said the battery has safeguards against undercharging so could it be that? I don't mind it cutting out, but what worried me the cycling, and how it might affect my phone. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
  7. Update: I exchanged the unit for a second one and it also makes a slight buzzing noise. I wonder if this is to be expected with the device. It's quiet enough that I cannot hear it till I move my head below my desk and close to the unit. The noise goes away when I turn off the surge protector using the switch on it. @UberGamerKing @ELSknutson @manikyath
  8. Hmm hmm, I would prefer to avoid using one but I don't have a wall outlet very close to my tower to I had to buy an extension.
  9. I agree, never had this kind of thing happen before and really freaked me out, the other one I considered is http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX13915. The energy dissipation rating is less but it's got positive reviews on amazon. I can't really find any other reviews.
  10. uh oh, i should have said that it wasn't as loud as a razor, but sound characteristic wise. In fact I didn't really notice till I went to turn off my computer and speakers and stuff. Nevertheless, I'm getting it exchanged, any chance I damaged something?
  11. Hmm hmm yea it's kinda hard to describe but the best I can say is an audible buzzing noise when the outlet is plugged in, almost like one of those electric razors. Hmmm hmmm it's an audible buzzing noise when the outlet is plugged in, almost like one of those electric razors. Im not sure what the arching noise would be like but it's not coil whine.
  12. I bought a blue diamond surge protector (http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX9323) from my local memory express yesterday and after used it for a couple of hours. When i shut down my PC for the night, I heard a distinct buzzing noise that I narrowed down to the surge protector. I'm going to try to get it changed but I would like to know if this is a problem and if I damaged my PC by plugging it in to this. I also wanted a second opinion on whether or not this is a good buy. I am open to recommendations but need one immediately so I have to be able to buy locally in Calgary, Alberta
  13. I had a couple of friends over and they were playing gta online on my computer. I let them play knowing that i didn't have too much money and I didn't care about how they spent it. I started up the game and left for a bit but when i returned they were like "dude u had 10 million" and spent a lot of it on random cars. I never had that kind of money so im very sure it got dropped by a modder or something. Please help, I have countless hours sunk into this game and I don't want to get banned or have my progress reset cos of this. I have no idea what to do.
  14. Wow this was really informative, thanks so much for the tips and I will keep them in mind. Really looking forward getting a cat soon!
  15. Hi there, welcome to the forums! That's interesting but im curious, wouldn't a kitten be far more energetic and troublesome?
  16. That sounds pretty good. Should I be worried about wires, keyboards ...
  17. I'm planning to get a cat sometime soonish, I haven't decided on breed and would take recommendations but I have some concerns regarding the damage the cat can cause. Like many of you, I have a large assortment of electronics and computers scattered around my house, and am wondering how this will work out with a cat. Similarly furniture, decoration pieces shelves... how will that work out? It would be great some of you can share personal experiences and tips to cat-proof my house. Thanks!
  18. If u touch the top cover of the pump, there is a very very slight vibration on mine. Very subtle.
  19. Unigine heaven usually gets it up to 72 but it's the same story with most games as well. GTA 5 sees temps around 70 degrees... I found a few reviews of this card online where thermal performance was also looked at and those cards all ran at 74-75 degrees celsius. In my experience, amd cards run quite hot, and this one is no exception.
  20. Make sure that the pump is actually running, and powered by a header delivering full power at all times. Some mobos have a dedicated pump header, while on others u can connect the pump to any fan header and set it to run on full power at all times. I have the same h60 but I used a molex to 3 pin and directly powered it using my psu, never have to worry bout my pump not getting full power. The fx 8350 in my system idles at 25-30 degrees celcius and hits 55-58 under full load.
  21. My XFX RX 470 idles around 55 degrees celcius, which is way higher than any previous card i have ever owned. Under load, it only goes up to about 72 degrees celcius so im pretty sure that the fans and cooling are working normally, but is there anything i can do about the idle temps, or is it ok. The fans don't spin at idle.
  22. I'm using open hardware monitor and I have AMD's own wattman integrated into crimson both showing average gpu temps, nothing out of the ordinary. Fan speeds are on the automatic curve. Windows 10
  23. It's on the factory default fan curve, and temps are not anything more than what i usually have. Its a newish card, around 1.5 months of relatively light use so a little unexpected, and it was fine up to about an hour ago.
  24. I was working on homework with my desktop on with a browser tab open, nothing was actively running on my desktop and it had been idling for a while but all of a sudden, my gpu fans spin up to 100% which is freaking loud. It does so for about 5 seconds then stops. It has then repeated every minute or so with out any load being on the gpu core, I have open harware monitor running showing usage and temps. Nothing out of the ordinary except for the fans. This is really distressing any help would be appreciated, thanks! XFX RX470 RS
