  1. I'm debating whether or not I should go back to this game. The first 10 hours or so were pretty cool. Once I got my ship though everything started to feel pretty repetitive and bounty hunters are chasing me down for seemingly nothing. Does the story get more interesting or is it all fetch quest and grind from this point forward?
  2. Hey everyone, I've been a PC gamer for the last 7 years and I enjoy it very much but I also realized I've been missing out on a lot of great games most of which are on the PS4. I'm also becoming increasingly frustrated with where PC gaming is headed in general. Especially with third party exclusives being bought up by EPIC. So, I decided to go all out and buy a PS4 Pro with God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, and the Nathan Drake collection. When I fired up HZD I was impressed with the visuals but the fps was pretty brutal at least for me. My PC is hooked up to a 1440p 144hz G-Sync panel so it's about as good as it can get in terms of input lag and general smoothness. I'm not trying to be some PCMR snob when I say the lower fps of the PS4 is jarring and takes me out of the experience. So I guess my question is does anyone have any recommendations to make the experience any better? I have a 5 year old Insignia 1080p TV I got from Best Buy for $300 and it's nothing special. Maybe a better TV would have technology built in to help smooth out what I'm noticing? Maybe it'll just take time to adjust? Any help of advice would be appreciated!
  3. I guess I'll just have to suck it up and do a fresh install. I hate that I'll pretty much have to do a fresh install every time Windows decides there's an update. Thanks for your help!
  4. Hey guys, I keep trying to update to 1803. The download goes fine, then it installs. Once I restart to finish the installation it gets to about 80% before restarting again and reverting to the previous version 1709. I've tried about 4 times now and the same thing happens every time. I've tried running the disk cleanup to delete the update files but i still get the same problem. I really don't want to have to do a fresh install every time there is a significant Windows update. It's becoming frustrating... This wouldn't be a big deal if I could just block the updates but it seems like that is a lost cause on Windows 10 especially on the Home version. I tried disabling the Windows Update service but it somehow always re-enables itself and downloads the 1803 update which I can't install. It's been a vicious cycle. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm trying to keep cool but Windows 10 is really trying my patience lately. Thanks!
  5. Do you think it would be worth reinstalling the latest drivers and not installing the Nvidia Audio?
  6. Sometimes while I'm gaming I hear audio pops or crackles in my headphones and I've been trying to solve it for awhile. I've already determined that the headphones are not the issue because I've tested several pairs. I have updated all my drivers and BIOS but nothing has helped. When I run LatencyMon only the Nvidia service (nvlddmkm.sys) stands out with a high DPC reading of about 2.3. Everything else is much lower. Its also worth mentioning that LatencyMon says everything is fine until I fire up a game. I have also noticed that this seems to happen only when I'm playing much older games such as KOTOR. I recently played through TW3 and Batman Archam City and didn't hear any audio issues, though LatencyMon still reports a problem. Anyone else have these issues or know what else I can try? Setup - GTX 970 - 4690K - 8GB RAM - Windows 10 - HyperX Cloud II (I've also tried my TurtleBeachs and standard headphones) I have tried the following. - Updated all drivers - Changed headphones - Disabling unused audio outputs and inputs - Updated BIOS - Changed HPET to on in the BIOS - Changed Windows and BIOS power settings to max - Changed Nvidia GPU to prefer max performance
  7. Hi Guys, I've been getting a strange error that has happened to me since I started playing Fallout NV. The error will give me a CTD and a textbox pops up "The instruction at 0x..." "Memory could not be read". Any one know what causes this? I also had the same issue with Skyrim on a different PC. I had mods installed on both games but I don't think they are the cause. Performance is otherwise great. I have tried the following but they all came back clean. sfc /scannow malwarebytes memory check Drivers are up to date I have a sneaking suspicion that it may be due to IObit Advance System Care that used to be installed on my computers. I used it to clean junk files and the registry. I'm just learning that this software isn't very reputable and clearing the registry is a bad idea all around. Is it possible that this software could have corrupted something and be causing this error?
  8. Hi Everyone, I built my first gaming PC and the temps in my case seem pretty warm. I think the higher temps are primarily because of the restricted air flow of the case (H440) and I'd like to know what I can do to better cool things down. I tested my temps while playing Tomb Raider at max settings for about 30 minutes. My GPU (MSI 970) reached 74C and my CPU (4690k) reached about 72C. Temperature in the room was about 84F. Both CPU and GPU are at stock speeds. CPU is using the stock fan. What would be the best option for cooling down my system? Install aftermarket CPU cooler such as Hyper 212 EVO (btw - will this help blow heat from the GPU out of the case) or Install 2 or 3 top case fans as exhaust (Would I need a special type of fan since the top of the case only has side openings?) GPU: MSI 970 CPU: 4690k (stock speeds/ fan) Case: H440
  9. Pretty hot. About 84F. Just turned on the AC though haha
  10. Idle on the CPU is low to mid 30s. GPU is low to mid 40s
  11. Hi Everyone, I have a new build and I'm curious what my max temps should be. I have no overclock on either GPU or CPU. The CPU is running on the stock cooler. My Temps seem hotter than my older PC and I'm thinking its due to the restricted airflow of my new H440 case. I'm hitting max of about 75C on CPU and 72 on GPU while gaming. What is the max acceptable temperature for each? When do I need to worry Specs CPU: 4690K (stock 3.5 - 3.9Ghz) GPU: MSI GTX 970 (Stock) Case: NZXT H440 Thank you!
  12. So there is no way to use ethernet for LAN and WiFi for internet?
  13. Hi Everyone, I just built my own gaming rig and gave my old one to my wife. We'd like to game together over LAN and have our the PCs connected for file sharing. I don't really know how to setup a LAN and I'm not sure if my current setup will be a problem. The two desktops we are using are in the same room and directly next to each other. The modem/ router on the other hand is in another room and I cannot move it so we must use WiFi for internet. I would prefer not to have use wireless for playing games together because a wired LAN should be much quicker. So... 1) Can we create a LAN by just plugging in an ethernet cord and linking both computers directly (no router)? 2) If the above is possible, can we stay on that LAN while simultaneously being on our WiFi for internet? 3) Don't know if this matters but my PC is Win8.1 while hers is Win 7. Both 64bit.
  14. Shit! Now they are the same price on Amazon. About $130 each. Is either one much better than the other? I'm bad with mobos and I really don't know the differances
