  1. @SDWdidi Right click Start Menu. Click Windows Command Prompt (Admin) Type "sfc /scannow" and hit enter. Let it finish. It will look for corruptions in Windows OS and fix them if it can and if it finds any. Sometimes this is the issue for me. It's not always why Windows is using the disk 100% though.
  2. You won't be able to have a good SLI 970 system with a budget like that. What would be your second choice? Two 970s alone would be half the budget.
  3. Let me introduce you to something. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817994197 The HAF X can have 20 drives aside from it's own HDD/SSD bays.
  4. .... he manually added the CPU to the PC Part Picker list and that didn't auto-filter the motherboards. Strange to do that tbh. ... Wait, that motherboard is still in the list. http://www.trustedreviews.com/best-motherboard_round-up B150 motherboards work fine with Skylake CPUs. Is there something particularly special about a 6600k?
  5. If we do really have to go down the "who needs" route, most people would be fine with M-ITX cases. "But what if I multi-gpu?" Many people say that and never do (like me). They just sell their current GPU and buy current gen again to upgrade.
  6. Most games aren't that big. GTAV with all DLC is 70GBish. Windows is 30GB max. Your documents, music, pictures is like 10GB max. Even with GTAV, Star Citizen, BF1, and the above mentioned things, you would have only used 260GB and still have 250 left over for other games.
  7. I would say you don't need 16GB of RAM, but having it is nice. What is your college degree going to be in?
  8. You should be fine with just a 512GB SSD. You can always buy the HDD later if you need it.
  9. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130887 Perhaps this one?
  10. That's good to hear. See, and I wouldn't have even thought to try that menu because usually when there's a drop down like that, whatever you would select is not what is currently selected. So if I consider my activity feed to be part of the community (which it is, since it's activity happening within the community), I'm already selecting the thing I want. That's part of the reason, but the other part is that that drop down is different from the "More" drop down, and I did not recognize it as a drop down until just now. Though I seem to have some time in the past. I'm like 90% sure I've clicked it before though and seen activity in it, which is partly user error, but the UI doesn't lend itself to easily remembering where things are either imo. Thanks for the response.
  11. That's not the same page at all. The one you mention is this one (for me): https://linustechtips.com/main/profile/2414-vitalius/content/ The one I mention is this one: https://linustechtips.com/main/discover/unread/
  12. Valid point. That's the other way I found it once. Activity Stream is still out of the way, and having a separate search function in general as a navigation option is strange. OK, so how am I supposed to get to Activity Stream from the main page?

    1440p

Best 1440p screen here imo in terms of price to features: Pixio 27" 1440p 144Hz Freesync - $399 Pixio 27" 1440p 60Hz - $299 Those are AHVA panels. Viewing angles like IPS. Colors inbetween TN and IPS. Refresh rate like TN. Comes with an anti-glare coating. The red label on the panel is a muted red In Real Life. Has the option to split the display into 1 through 4 displays based on input. Example: I have a PS4 plugged into HDMI1 and my PC plugged into DisplayPort. If I wanted to, I could have PC displayed on half the screen and PS4 displayed on the other half. Not entirely useful for that, but useful for troubleshooting and stuff. Or watching TV and using PC? IDK. Just a cool thing it supports. It has some quirks though. Adaptive brightness sucks. i.e. "how bright the colors on your screen are decides brightness level". If the screen has too much dark content, the display literally turns off. I just disable that feature. Pixio is working on a firmware update to fix it though as I emailed them.
  15. Have you tried this? http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21911297/how-to-remove-both-php-and-html-extensions-from-url-using-nginx
  16. The following is a response to another thread that I figure deserved it's own thread. I wouldn't feel stupid. The site's layout is very... convoluted? (not sure if adequate description) Generally, it feels confusing to try and find something you know exists at times because menus change depending on where you are. I've noticed the Navigation pane changes depending on where you are. I've had trouble finding Member Search multiple times. And each time I've found it has been a different way. To illustrate @colonel_mortis, I only know how to get to Member Search and "My Activity Stream" by doing the following: Go to staff page. Edit URL to https://linustechtips.com/main/members because I hoped that was a thing since /staff was. By doing that, Navigation changes from Forums - Community Standards - Staff - More into All Activity - My Activity Streams - Search. Click Search. I'm sure there's a "right way". I'm also sure it's a very poor User Experience if I can't easily find that "right way". It's also the only way I know how to access my Activity Stream. I could go to the User Link Menu (click your name/avatar in the top right), then My Activity, but those aren't the same pages. I recommend adding those three to the "main" Navigation bar. it has plenty of room for them for me and my browser is currently using 720p only, so it should have plenty of space for anyone with a 720p or greater monitor. I realize the "Go to Staff page" step is unnecessary, but that's the first approach I took. I expected the Navigation Menu to change because I vaguely remembered getting to Member Search from it before. I just included it to show you why I tried #2. The concept of a website changing it's navigation depending on where you are in it is only a good idea, imo, if the location has something the rest of the website doesn't. i.e. If you are in a different permissions area and have more or difference choices in what you can do. If you're in a section of the website where something only works there. That type of thing. Doing it for what appears to be an arbitrary reason like "You aren't .... anywhere?" is strange to me. Please fix this. I shouldn't have to go through two web pages to access a core feature like Search or My Activity Streams. It's not about being lazy as a user. It's that that's just not good web design and it doesn't create an enjoyable user experience. The fact that that is the process I used to find Search is, imo, indicative of another deeper problem. But that's a post for another thread/time.
  17. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/20105029/include-php-file-into-html-file The second quote is doing what the first quote said was a bad idea. The "right" way appears to be "Load your HTML file into your PHP as a kind of template (a lot of work)" but I'm no web developer. The other "right" way to do it appears to be this: I would do it that way honestly. StackOverflow is indispensable.
  18. I swear... Is it extreme? Yes. Do you have any other option so far? No. I read your post. I just figured you'd want to know of a way to stop it even if it means you can't use prediction. It's technically a solution that's arguably worse than the problem it solves. But some people prefer those types of solutions. Don't be indignant to someone trying to help you. Otherwise people will just stop trying to help you.

I want M-ITX. If it doesn't say "Purchased" on the above list, I don't own it yet. The GPU and CPU are placeholders while I wait for Vega and Kaby Lake or wtv Intel is doing.

I currently have the following build:

I would have that all set to purchased, but I can't find my original prices for everything. Just the purchased things.

I plan on selling my current system to buy the M-ITX one. Small is best. Get a backpack. Shove my PC and Server in there. And roll. Except for monitor ofc. That goes in it's box/briefcase/wtv. lol

  22. You dropped this: 6 You are correct however. I had the numbers backwards. Thanks for helping me support my point btw.
  23. See, GPUs increase by a good percentage every iteration (every time they release). i.e. The GTX 770 is around 10-15% more powerful than the GTX 670. Same was similarly true of the 970 for the 770. You know what that is? That's exponential growth. That means that GPU performance is increasing very fast. But that doesn't matter. The reason it doesn't matter is because settings are multiplicative. Meaning, they multiply against each other to be more significant in terms of how they affect the performance. If I have 1080p medium settings, and I bump that up to 1080p ultra settings. I'm going to increase the work my GPU has to do by like 2 fold. If I do the same, but for 1440p, I'd do the same. I'd make it 2 times harder to render. If I do 1080p medium settings then go to 1440p medium settings, I'm increasing the work my GPU has to do by 2 fold as well. Even though it's only 50% more pixels, AA and such mean it has to do a lot more work anyway. If I increase the resolution 50% (going from 1080p to 1440p), then also go from medium to ultra settings, it doesn't just raise my GPU's workload by 4x, it's more like 8 times. Or somewhere in between 4 and 8 times harder. It's an imperfect science, but in general, 1080p medium to 1440p ultra is a pretty significant leap in work for a GPU. But rather than just spew stuff you probably won't understand at you, I'll use benchmarks too.
  24. TL;DR: Saying GTA V is an easy game to run because your friend has an old mid tier GPU and can get 50FPS on medium settings at 1080p is nonsense.
