If you leave your machine on for the most of the day, that would be a bad idea. Performance mode forces the CPU to run at its rated frequency and volts. You can save on electricity and expand the lifespan of your CPU by using the balanced power profile. Which down clocks your CPU and under volts it to conserve energy. While gaming or doing heavy tasks it will boost back up to rated frequencies for maximum performance. Otherwise I personally find it not too appealing, balanced mode gives your CPU a break from running at full volts and it also cuts back a little bit on heat as well.

If you have a HDD I would recommend keeping that on. If you have a SSD, Windows will automatically disable defrag for you.

didn't know it auto disables it, thanks :P

  2. Have you even used Windows 8 (sans .1) or did you just watch a few tards rant about it on youtube?

It's a great deal and all, but you're flat out wrong there. Not to mention 8 has better performance optimizations.

It takes less than a minute to configure. It obviously has some faults, but it's Windows, it's customizable so you can fix whatever problems you have with it. The benefits of 8 greatly outweigh the cons.

i love windows 8.1 :^) with classic shell. feels a lot quicker and smoother and takes less time if i need to reformat or install it to a new computer since there's not like 150 updates.

  3. looks rly good for a first build, should be proud instead :D

thanks! :D i am proud, i just think i could of done better. I was super nervous building it thinking that i would mess up and break something but that didn't happen.

  4. Dude, you must build your own desktop computer, trust me, you would enjoy it much more give it a try. Also, It would be much better and fully customizable, building a pc isn't hard, try watching some videos from Linus or anyone on youtube that build pc's and hopefully it'll help you decide,

i think the keyword here is *laptop* :P
