  1. A million thank you's to you and everyone else!!! @MrAnonymous @Octavialicious @cheeze_tartz Once i get all the parts in I for sure will create a build log!
  2. @stconquest it is a bit higher then i would like in a perfect world, but I'm of the mindset that i would rather pay a bit more and get exactly what i want, then to spend less and not be 100% happy with it. Plus, coming from the world of Mac, its really not that bad, i still cringe when i think about how much i paid for my Macbook pro back in 08'. Plus i will be off loading a bunch of old music equipment that i no longer use to help offset a lot of this price, so in reality ill only be forking over like 600 of my own money. not too bad in my opinion. and the fact that it will be pretty well "future proof" makes me a happy camper
  3. @stconquest oh ok. well at the moment heres what my part list looks like CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($199.99 @ Micro Center) CPU Cooler: CRYORIG H7 49.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($34.50 @ Newegg) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($95.99 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: G.Skill Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory ($51.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($97.98 @ OutletPC) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($49.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card ($349.99 @ SuperBiiz) Case: Corsair Air 540 ATX Mid Tower Case ($116.00 @ Newegg) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA GS 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($69.99 @ NCIX US) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 OEM (64-bit) ($87.98 @ OutletPC) Wireless Network Adapter: Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I 802.11a/b/g/n/ac PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter ($28.98 @ OutletPC) Total: $1183.38 I feel like I've checked off all the things i could possibly want in a build. It feels more well rounded and better thought out, of course thats thanks to everyone who helped lol
  4. Im getting this note on my parts list now: The G.Skill Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory operating voltage of 1.65V exceeds the Intel Haswell Refresh CPU recommended maximum of 1.5V+5% (1.575V). This memory module may run at a reduced clock rate to meet the 1.5V voltage recommendation, or may require running at a voltage greater than the Intel recommended maximum. @stconquest is this something to worry about?
  5. @MrAnonymous i too would like to go wired but its simply not an option unfortunately i agree with your thoughts on the SSD though, i think ill include a tiny one @stconquest idk why but after spending a solid 2 days looking at nothing but cases, the 540 air just spoke to me lol super cheesy i know. i also really like the 600T but i don't wanna spend THAT much on a case. i think ill keep the cpu cooler just for the sake of keeping temps down and being more quite, and they're so cheap why not. i really like your idea for the mechanical drive, quite genius if i do say so myself. one question about the pci network card, would that prevent me from having a sli setup should i decide to go down that path in the future?
  6. I have a few points id like to bring up as well: I already have a 1TB external hd i got for my macbook awhile back, i could drop the traditional hd for a ssd, and use the external for my pictures music etc. Does that sound logical? I need a way to connect to the internet wirelessly. Should i go usb, pci, or wifi built straight into the mobo??
  7. @stconquest can you go into more detail about the 970 windforce? Id like to thank everyone at this point whose helped out, seriously, you guys are life savers. @MrAnonymous @cheeze_tartz @Octavialicious
  8. @stconquest the more i look at the price difference between the two, it seems silly not to get the K. But it would make a more noticeable difference in mobo price, at least the one I'm looking at lol
  9. @MrAnonymous well funny you should bring up the cpu, in my other thread in the CPU/Mobo forum, I'm slowly being persuaded to upgrade to the 4690k. Would you still consider this over kill? Even if i scaled down the GPU?
  10. @Octavialicious @cheeze_tartz i see what you mean about the RAM, i switched to a 16 gig kit of vengeance. My thought process behind getting the 970 was to try and make it last me as long as possible if that makes any sense. like i would rather pay $300 for a gpu that will last me awhile rather then pay less for a gpu that will be obsolete sooner, ya know? Am I over thinking this?
  11. @stconquest thats kinda the crossroad I'm at right now, i hate boxing myself out, and later on down the line regretting not having the option. i suppose i could always get the 4690k and just not overclock if i don't want to? does switching to the K change the type of Mobo i should be looking at?? i imagine it would
  12. @Sam Z Man I still feel somewhat uneasy about overclocking, mostly due to my utter lack of experience in such things. Is it difficult? I plan on using an air cooler, would that be enough to keep temps in check? @blackadder you brings up very good points I just put up my part list in the build section, for anyone whose interested in seeing what i have so far.
  13. I first posted in the CPU/MoBo section with a question on MoBo's and took the advise from another member to post up my list of parts for review. Read the sticky, got a good sense of how to compose this post. 1. Budget & location - Ideally i would like to spend around $1000, give or take a few $100. I wouldn't mind going up to $1200 if it got me a better build that offered me more features i like. Im located in the USA. 2. Aim - Basically going for an internet surfer, storing music and photos, and gaming. No triple A's (BF4, Assassins creed, etc.) just things like WoW, counter strike/team fortress, Dota, etc. 3. Monitors - Just one 4. Peripherals - i have a mouse and keyboard from my old desktop ages ago. I need an OS though, was gonna get windows 8 or 10 if it comes out by the time i get all the pieces together. 5. Upgrading - My current workhorse is my old 2008 MacBook Pro, love it to death but alas, its really only good for taking to school and surfer the web. I need a desktop dearly lol That all being said heres what i got so far in terms of hardware: PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/cV29ZL CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($217.99 @ NCIX US) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($26.98 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($86.99 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($94.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Western Digital Se 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($74.99 @ SuperBiiz) Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card ($319.99 @ SuperBiiz) Case: Corsair Air 540 ATX Mid Tower Case ($116.00 @ Newegg) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($79.99 @ NCIX US) Total: $1017.92
  14. @Sam Z Man first of all, your response was golden lol I applaud you sir  but also very informative. Is there a processor you would recommend over the i5-4690? preferably around the same price point
  15. @blackadder lol that's what I like to hear, thanks man! @stconquest yeah you've basically described exactly how I want to use my rig. Although I'd probably invest in a few online fps, but only things like counter strike and team fortress 2. can you elaborate on this? That's a very interesting point
