  1. Files do not default to your desktop. But if you see them on your desktop folder in file explorer then you need to verify show desktop icons is checked. That is found by right clicking your desktop > View > Show desktop icons
  2. Use pcpartpicker, buy used parts on eBay and Craigslist, buy last gen hardware, if you aren't after playing AAA titles at 4k60 you can likely build a reasonable gaming system for $400-500 with second hand parts that would outperform a majority of $900 gaming laptops.
  3. I would pay the $300 for the device if it did exactly what I wanted, but since you showed that optical display port cables are a thing, I will try one out by the end of the month and hopefully remember to report back here. $100-150 a monitor cable is better than $300 and dealing with TX and RX boxes. Thank you for the input and lesson, hope to pay it forward.
  4. Typically xmp adjusts some CPU related settings, so that could have been related. Glad you got it.
  5. A scalable solution would be to get a small mixer from Yamaha and Behringer and XLR mics. Sennheiser and Audio-Technica are the two leading names in that game. But frankly I don't see why something like a blue yeti or any USB based microphone wouldn't be good enough. Things like pop filters and shock mounts go a long way as well. Here is some decent starting gear: Behringer Xenyx Q802USB $97: https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-Q802USB-Premium-8-Input-Interface/dp/B008O517IC/ Audio-Technica 2020 XLR $115: https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-AT2020-Cardioid-Condenser-Microphone/dp/B0006H92QK/ Or All-In-One solution: Audio-Technica 2020USB $150: https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-AT2020USB-Cardioid-Condenser-Microphone/dp/B00B5ZX9FM/ Blue Yeti Condenser $100: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Yeti-USB-Microphone-Blackout/dp/B00N1YPXW2/ The Xenyx would also allow for external inputs into your mix and work as a headphone amp and dac. These are by no means the very best, but good enough, especially to start. The best gets godly expensive. I would also recommend a good pair of cans, because no one wants to hear feedback. Here are some good starters Open back- Sennheiser HD599SE $100: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RFNZYJZ/ Closed back- Audio-Technica ATH-M50x $130: https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M50x-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR86/ I have the older HD598SE and absolutely love them. Low end is a bit more slacking but your ears do not get hot during long sessions. You can just read the reviews on the M50x to see why they are great. Hope this helps.
  6. Make sure secure boot isn't on. Depending on how the ssd was imaged secure boot may or may not work. If that still does not work see if you have a legacy support option, again which is also dependent on how the system was imaged.
  7. While it is best to have like memory in a system, if it is posting, booting, etc I don't think you will have any issues. The best results would be for 2x8 set to be in A1 & A2 and the 2x4 set to be in B1 & B2 so each set is in the same memory channel. I work in a poor school district IT dpt and we have to throw whatever memory we have in a system and even with mismatched speeds, timings, capacities and brands we very rarely have an issue with it, when they are in a proper set on each channel. If windows is operating fine Freenas/Unraid should as well, you can also always run a memtest to verify there is no issue with the ram itself. Hope this helps.
  8. Thanks for the reply. There is adapters to take a DP from a gpu and combine it with a TB3 cable, but that isn't the goal because the cost on fiber based TB cables is ridiculous and only TB2 is out. Adapter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0722SV69N/ref=twister_B07GTGZYLG?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Cable: https://www.amazon.com/Thunderbolt-Optical-Self-Powered-Peripherals-AOC-MMS4CVP010M20/dp/B00HSTC496/ (only 33ft & TB2) I believe the limit for a traditional USB-C TB3 cable is 6.6ft for 40gbps The talk of USB-C was for peripherals and not TB3 as I know it is not possible, especially for a realistic price. I have found a device that claims 18gbps that supports 4k 60 4:4:4; however, it does not claim to be HDBT2.0 or usb support. But this is interesting because it is over CAT6 which is only 10gbps and HDBT is supposed to be (at least typically) compression less which is how it maintains a low latency. I have zero experience and 100% curiosity with these things. HDBT Extender: https://www.amazon.com/gofanco-HDBaseT-Extender-HDMI-Balun/dp/B07R74R6TB Now I do not have quarrels with a just using a long DP cable, but my concern is signal fidelity, as HDBT is suppose to be near lossless. Of course now a two second search I see fiber DP cables (no clue they existed). Would still love your input. Finally, I am using a 144hz 1ms monitor, I have three to use if the solution is realistically priced or will be using an Rpi and some sort of peripheral sharing software. Thanks again.
  9. Hey guys, here is the idea, I am rack mounting my desktop, almost like Linus. However, as we all know they Corning has not released a Thunderbolt 3 optic cable yet and the length I need is something like $600 for the Thunderbolt 2 cable so I can only imagine how ridiculous the v3 cable would be. So I am considers HDBaseT (HDBT) extender, HDMI over Ethernet for those who may not know. The run will not be ridiculous maybe 50ft, the issue I have is that I am wanting an HDBT 2.0 adapter, but am struggling to find one. The reason I would like 2.0 specifically is native usb support and lower latency as I intend to play FPS games over it. I would greatly appreciate the help in finding these, the requirements is 4k 60hz/1080p 144hz over HDBT 2.0, now if any of you have experience with a regular ol' HDBT at 144hz and it works great even for gaming I am not opposed, thanks again. Here is the run down of the plan, rack mount the pc, switch, ups, nas/plex, and firewall in a separate room so I don't have to hear the roaring fans. Run the ethernet cable (HDBT), a active usb-c cable for that 3.1 goodness with a hub on the other end, loom it and neatly tuck it against the ceiling.
  10. Thanks for the quick response, do you know one with display port?
  11. Hey guys i, am looking for help finding two monitors to pair with my VG248QE, I would love for them to be Asus, but not a must, but I do want them to have the same bezel thickness and heigth (so basically it is even on a three monitor stand) and preferably cheaper. I do not want to buy two more $260+ VG248QE because the side monitors are not my primary and I could not even enjoy the 1ms 144hz. Thanks in advance for your help.
  12. That still doesnt answer my question. I am only doing it to learn how it all works, not to make money, and I'll buy actual miners, but please answer my questions.
  13. Your friend is very rich, bit coins are around $330 a piece, also, it is not as if I am ivesting my life, it is going to be more of a hobby.
  14. Im only using my computer until I have a complete understanding of it and get actual miners.
