  1. Hi, I am trying to debug a hardware issue where all my USB devices will disconnect or reset, its happened twice now and the second time was when I opened Discord. (Not sure about the first as it happened on boot). The error in the reliability monitor is: Description A problem with your hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly. Problem signature Problem Event Name: LiveKernelEvent Code: 144 Parameter 1: 1005 Parameter 2: fffff308216dd730 Parameter 3: 0 Parameter 4: 0 OS version: 10_0_22631 Service Pack: 0_0 Product: 256_1 OS Version: 10.0.22631.2.0.0.256.48 Locale ID: 2057 Now this doesn't show much information here, I am quite techy when it comes to these things but I am not sure about finding the details or what error "1005" means specifically. I've checked the folder "C:\Windows\LiveKernelReports" and there is a new folder called "USBXHCI" which was created at the time of the error but the folder is empty, so this pointed me to an issue with USB devices somewhere. Specs: MSI Z790 Tomahawk WiFi DDR 5 Intel 13900k 64GB Corsair Dominator RTX 3090 Ti I recently had issues with games constantly crashing and an error was reported by memtest86. I've recently replaced my memory, I've also set my CPU to stock as using default setting by the motherboard it set the power limits to unlimited and it was overheating but is no longer the case. I have since run memtest86 again for 10 hours with zero reported errors. Also to note I reinstalled Windows 11 again yesterday, I have the latest drivers installed at this point in time. Is there a guide on how I can specifically find out the cause of this error or what it is likely to be?
  2. It's a "PC MIDI M/ATX GAMING CASE" so I assume fits ATX?
  3. Budget (including currency): £700 Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Fortnite, Looking to build a budget PC, parts I already have are Case, SSD & PSU (can't remember exact watt but should be plenty for a budget system) I was looking to source a used RTX 2060 GPU, or something similar if you can recommend anything like an AMD card which would be better? https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/msouthall/saved/rkWW99
  4. Ah could be faulty for other reasons then, the drive didn't show up in the BIOS after multiple reboots etc until I took it apart, cleaned, reseated and checked.
  5. The drive was already updated when I checked with Samsung Magician a while back. I will try to RMA the drive as I don't want to risk loosing data if there is a problem with it. I'll clean up the pads and remove them and see what temps are like without and replace if needed. I guess those are the best options. There is an old post here regarding oils leaking from thermal pads and a mention of MSI which is what my motherboard is and the heatsink that came with it.
  6. I have tried that and I swapped them over in the NVMe slots and all drives are working again. Not sure what happened though, from the photo you can see it is in the slot
  7. I got a BSOD "CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED", rebooted and it went into the BIOS. I checked and my main SSD (Samsung 990 PRO) is no longer listed. So I have took apart the machine to see what's going on and I see this residue on the SSD. I can only assume its come from the heatsink that has the thermal pad. Is it possible this has shorted something? I checked my other SSD and it also has some residue on it, so I am going to remove these thermal pads. Has anyone seen this before? The thermal pad / heatsink is what came with the motherboard which is an MSI Z790 Tomahawk.
  8. Not really, the only damage you have to worry about is a power surge when the power comes back on but most PSUs have protection against that, although it is recommended to use a surge protector too. In terms of data loss its more rare these days as a lot of clever things are happening to prevent it at hardware and OS level. Some SSDs include capacitors which will flush the cache during a power loss to prevent any data lost in that cache for example.
  9. I moved from Lastpass to 1Password due to the lack of encryption on items and the recent hacking.
  10. Ok interesting, didn't think about the sub. I am just trying to keep the cost down without having to get new speakers or a whole new setup. I am stuck with not being able to go 4k while keeping the same receiver. Another option is to just simply go to a sound bar.
  11. Hi all, I want to get a 4k TV but my AV Receiver doesn't support 4k passthrough with HDMI so I need to upgrade it. I want to keep the speakers I have and I am not sure what spec receiver I need to power the speakers. The receiver is an STR-KS360S and the manual is attached, it has a specification page and I have also taken a capture of the page and attached it. If someone can provide some recommendations on what receiver to get that'd be great or what I need to look for! Thanks! 4130031113.pdf
  12. It's at the back of the case, mine was just hanging and they were also labeled for me with text telling me what it is. Do you not see anything at the back that looks like a sata power connector?
  13. I also recommend the Sennheiser 598C, I have those and they sound great. I use a Schiit Magni amp with my AKG K712 which sound amazing so I can also recommend the Schiit stuff.
  14. The backlight issue with IPS is mainly what is called light bleed. This is when the backlight leaks out of the side of the panel. For gaming, a TN panel is just fine. You sit directly in front of your computer so you won't have any color shifting issues which IPS solve by having wider viewing angles. Color is also more accurate on IPS but again, for gaming, you really won't notice it. I would go for a TN panel gaming monitor.
