  1. Hello friends yes I am looking for a gift for my sister. She specifically wants over-ear headphones and she is open/interested in trying the open-back style, and long-story short I have two main ideas as of right now. As the title says, I've narrowed down my selection to the Philips SHP9500 and the (Massdrop) HiFiMAN HE-350. I know that the HE-350s will be a much better all-around experience, better pair of cans, etc. But I'm mainly wondering if it would be worth it to buy them (350s over the SHP9500's) for her. The Philips ones are about $55USD on newegg right now, and the 350s are $100USD, and I have no problems with buying the 350s, but again I'm not sure if she'll really 'appreciate' them. I am by no means an audiophile/expert, but I know more about audio than she does. The nicest headphones she's ever owned are the apple earpods, so either one will be an upgrade. But as I said, I'm no super-enthusiast. My main headphones are the ATH-M50x's (basic, I know but they're great for gaming), and she's enjoyed them the handful of time she's listened to them. I don't really know if she'd be losing anything by not using a DAC/AMP with the 350s, and since she listens to 100% of her music on her iPhone/laptop it doesn't make sense to get them if they'll be 'under used' Another note is that she specifically wants some cans to use while hanging out at home, she understands that these won't be great for going 'out and about' so she understands that and what comes with the open-back (vs. closed) headphone style. Her musical taste is mainly 'Top-40' and the like. Blink-182 is her fav band, so a lot of California will be played through these. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated, Thanks guys and gals, -Goldhound4. headphone links (US): 350's : https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x-hifiman-he-350 SPH9500's : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826138190&cm_sp=Homepage_BS-_-P1_26-138-190-_-10252016
  2. Hey guys, just something I wanted to get out there before I go off to sleep tonight; Are there any other (current or former) competitive swimmers in the LTT community? I know this may seem like an odd thing to ask, and I can understand it being so, but being the curious 17 year old that I am, I just thought that it would an interesting inquiry for the forums. So, if you ever were/are into the competitive swimming scene, what are some of your main/favorite events? Some of your times? Long course or short course? How long have/did you swim (or swam?) Swimming is probably my greatest passion, and I would like to know if there are any others out there that have similar feelings. Can you swim as fast as the water running through your AIO? Lemme know! I'd be very interested in hearing any personal stories! (Not so ) quick personal story on me getting into swimming: I was a strong swimmer my entire life, and it was something that I greatly enjoyed doing as soon as I learned how. I started taking lessons when I was probably 5 or 6, and I very quickly took a liking to it. As I said, I was a strong swimmer, one of the strongest in my "swim classes" but it was never something that I had ever considered to take up as a real "sport." Fast forward to freshmen year of highschool (9th grade, I was 14-15 during this school year) I learned that the highschool I was attending had a swimteam! My sister was a few years older than me, she was a senior at this time (12th grade) and she too had always enjoyed swimming, but hadn't pursed it either (soccer was more her thing, and she was a state title-holding goalie for her club team). So of course I was going to join our team, and with our school being small enough, it was a no-cut sport, so anyone (as long as they could float) was a allowed to join. Any my big sister thought, ''why the hell not," and did it with me. I needed a ride to the 6:00 AM practices and it was her senior year, so she joined the team as well. I instantly fell in love with not only the sport, but our team as well. We all had so much fun, and of course we got our asses kicked at practice, (even though the lane that I was training in had to do modified versions of the 'workouts' because we were simply unable to complete the sets, but we loved it nonetheless.) I may have been a strong swimmer, but I was in no means in 'swimming shape.' At the beginning of the season, I struggled to do a single 50 (2 pool lengths in our 25 yard pool) without stopping, but by the end I was much much better, but still not even close to being a 'serious' contender. (at this point I probably swam a 50Yrd.-Free in about 35 seconds, ugh haha) Fast forward again another year, and I was doing SO much better even at the beginning of the season. At the end of this school season I even made it into our school's district "League Championship" Meet. in my 'main events' (at the time) 100 Breast and 200 Free (with times of ~1:17 and ~2:16 respectively). At this point in my swimming career, I was beginning to be more than just a "good swimmer," I was now able to actually properly 'compete,' but I still wasn't at the level of the majority of the other 16yr old, 6'4" swimmers. So, at the end of this school season I made the decision to join a "real" swim team and join a club team, and it was at a local YMCA. This was almost exactly a year ago, and I am still doing the sport that I love. I may not be a national champion, but I am competing at a level that I thought would never be possible, now holding a state time for my club league (and I may be quick, but apparently no one ever swims that event, because at the State Championship meet for my team, I was the only person in the water for that event, and I still broke the state record, so yeah, 50-Fly in 26.50). I've already wrote much more than I intended to, and I very much appreciate it if you took the time to read the whole thing. What are some of your swim stories?
  3. Hey guys, Coming into this I KNOW that I will not get much more performance out of this card with the voltage being locked, and honestly, that doesn't really bother me all too much. I knew when building this PC I wouldn't be doing any serious OC'ing, and with this card having a flash sale at the time of purchase, (for about $290 USD, usually costing ~$330) it was perfect for me, my build, and my budget. Anyways, if you're familiar with this card, or would have any idea of what it's capable of getting under the stock voltage, I'd love to hear from you or just get some feedback. I've never OC'ed anything in my life, having this be my first build and everything, I do have a 4690k, and I will probably put a small OC on it in the future, but I still only have the stock cooler, so I would rather not right now (for obvious reasons). I've been using this card for about 3 months now, been I've been gaming, done some light video editing, normal use, all that, and I've never had a major crash or anything like that, so I know that my specific card is stable and everything works. I got barely under 10,000 and 5,000 in FireStrike and FireStrike Extreme respectively (I'll try to include some screencaps below) Here is a link to my card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125792 And also I'll put in a screencap of my current (stock) MSI Afterburner settings. Any feedback is welcome and very appreciated, Many thanks, GH4.

  5. THAT'S 90 DEG WHERE THE HELL DO YOU LIVE? HAWAII INSIDE OF A VOLCANO? EDIT: I see that you live in Malaysia....
  6. 22 C is 71 F, that's 6 deg higher than mine, that's quite warm IMO, but I know that I do have a colder house (especially with my parents not being fans of turning the heat past 65)
  7. Yeah, I do live in Seattle, and I see that he is from Texas, sooooooo that would give a bit of variation
  8. But also a quick note I didn't put into the main post is that the fans *can* get loud, like if you ramp them up to 75% in afterburner, it gets noisy at that point, and if yuo turn it aboute 85 it starts to sound like it's trying to take off, but like I said, I've never had it get that hot/loud. And if needed you can adjust your fan curve Also I see on your profile that you already own a 290? Why get a 390x when you already own a card 1 step down? Granted, it's last gen but I feel like it won't be a huge change. I'd get at least a fury if I were you, just to get that extra boost in performance that you might now find with a 390X
  9. Hey mate, sorry for the late response, I went to sleep shortly after posting this and seeing some of the replies, so I apologize for that. I'll try to answer your questions as best as I can, but take them with a grain of salt since I am a first time PC builder and some things I don't have a ton of experience with. -What case is it in, and what kind of airflow does it get? (Good, bad, average?) My tower is a NZXT S340, and I have two Rosewill 140mm fans for intake (the case only has 2 mounting spots for the intake, 120 or 140 though). They're fairly budget oriented fans, but they move a decent amount of air for only being $18 USD for the pair. So overall, I'd say the card gets "better-than-average" to "good" airflow, no hard-drive cages in the tower to obstruct any movement (I'll include a picture of my tower at the end of this or add one to my profile soon if I remember to do so). -What are your idle temps? The idle temps in this card are generally* good (see below in the noise level) Whilst typing this, I was in a room that was about 18.deg C (65.deg F) and when I opened MSI-afterburner, it recorded a temp of 35.deg C. But oddly enough, I checked it again near the end of typing this and it was hovering closer to 29 or 30, but the fans HAD turned on (only to a very low setting only about 1k RPM), but not audible beyond the point where I could tell the difference between them and the case fans. (again, see more details in what I wrote in the noise section(s)) -What are your load temps? Have you experienced any thermal throttling at all? Something to note is that I have never run a proper "load" test on my PC (nothing like the "valley bench" (or whatever it's called), or anything along those lines). I've run 3Dmark before, but I never bothered to check the temps of my GPU or CPU. When it comes to more realistic situations, the most intense game that I really avidly play is BF4, which I run at the Ultra Preset @ 1080p, and I happened to check it during a relatively long gaming session (3-4 hours) and I was pleasantly surprised to see that in the graphs, it never passed 77deg.C which was great considering that the fans did have to ramp up a bit to keep it cool, and the stock fan curve is aggressive enough to keep it cool, but it remained quite quiet. (see below). -What do you think about the noise? Is it noisy at all? As you probably know, this card has the gigabyte "Silent/Stop" mode on the fans, and they don't turn on unless the card goes under and load that isn't a super basic task. SUre they do turn on occasionally after just browsing the internet or watching a few YouTube videos (thanks adobe flash haha) but it's nothing noticeable. I do use my PC with headphones on though if I'm doing anything more than just typing a quick email. I have the Audio Technica ATH-M50x's, so they're over-ear and closed back, so there is some isolation offered there. But I DO run them plugged into a microphone (24/7, it's never just plugged into the PC) so I can hear myself speak/live monitor the audio, and it's also nice since I just run my computer's audio through it, so I don't have to have any sort of audio-splitter if I want to also game and do a recording at the same time. With that noted, you'd think that I'd hear the fans ramp-up with the tower being about a foot and-a-half away from my head, and less than 2 away from my microphone, but I really don't. If I have any sound playing at all from my PC, wheather is music, a game, video, whatever, I don't ever 'hear' the fans, I never notice them durring gaming, and definitly never when I'm just listeing to music unless I really really stop and listen for them. SO overall, I'd say this is a great quiet card. -To your best judgement, how loud would this be in comparison to a reference 290 (the blower fan one that reaches 95C)? No idea, never used a reference card, only heard it in YT vids and such, so I can't really offer an opinion there. -What do you think of the build quality/weight of the card? Build quality? Excellent, superb even. Great shroud over the top and heat sink (looks plastic in pics and vids, but it's really metal)nice back-plate with a noticeable but still small and subtle G1 Gaming logo. But, for being a 2 fan card, and not being especially long, there is some droop/sag in it. I noticed when I first picked it up that it was pretty heavy, and I was worried that it was sag, and it did, buta very small amount, it's something you'd really only notice if you're looking square on at the card a looking for it to not be level, but I have y tower set and angled in such a way that it sort of exacerbates it a little bit. -Have you had any issues with the card regarding BIOS, crashes, overheating, constant rebooting, etc.? No, never crashed on me, no problems in the BIOS* (see below in the OC'ing section) never overheated, never forced an unexpected (i.e., non-updated related) reboot on me. -In regards to the locked voltage, have you tried unlocking it with a BIOS flash? If not, what kind of OC have you gotten (if you've overclocked) without additional voltage? As I said before when talking about my gaming, I only game @ 1080p, and with this card being capable of some solid 1440p gaming, it's not being pushed all that much. Having that known, I've never felt the need to OC, and I'm already more than happy with it's performance, (granted I did get in on a sale for about $285 USD, so the unlocked voltage wasn't a big deal in the first place to me, and the other cards like the MSI TwinFrozer were $30+ more than this one, so it didn't make sense for me to get one of the other cards). IN short, never even attempted to unlock the voltage, never needed to. Hope I answered all you wanted to know mate, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Cheers!
  10. IPS, yes, singel tile; IDK what that is, it's LG, it's ultrawide, has good reviews, ??? is just the revious model, the 25UM56-P and as far as I can tell by the newegg comparison, they're virtually identical., soooo YEAH IM PROBABLY GONNA DO IT
  11. THANKS EVERYONE wow that was very fast, like I said, this is something I will do a little ways in the future, thanks for all of the feedback! Cheers!
