  1. I have been helping my friend with his first build but now he's having an issue. A few min into playing a round of a game, the screen will go black, then start what looks like a pixel refresh pattern where it will flash red green and blue. It returns after a restart but sometimes the resolution is set to very low. It happens on DP and HDMI. Right now I think its a GPU issue but before I tell him to return it, is there anything else he can check? https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Phantom329/saved/Lxpg3C
  2. I will be installing conduit which makes it a bit more convenient in the future. 1" might be large enough since I was able to get the DP through a 3/4" hole. The sheetrock is already installed so its tough to position the hole saw but the LV boxes have no back plate so its not bad. I think for now I will forgo the TB cable and just add a USB 3 hub under my desk. I have been testing one hub just from Amazon but it keeps having issues. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good reliable hub or a way to diagnose and fix the one I have? It is currently plugged in with a USB 3 A to B 3ft cable but I have a 20ft non active one ready to go. At first I had it plugged into a USB 3.1 port on my mobo rear IO but it spammed the USB unplugged noise so now its in a regular USB 3 port and randomly gets disconnected and I have to replug it. It mostly has issues when I have my webcam on through it (1080p 30fps) so I wonder if its bandwidth related. On the hub is that webcam, mouse, keyboard, headphones, and will have speakers. I am looking for hubs with 7 or more ports.
  3. I'm currently building myself an office and I need to have my PC in a place where I need to fish wires through the wall. Its also a wall that will be hard to work on once the sheetrock is in so I want to run my cables once and not have to worry about it. It's only about 15ft from rear IO to monitor so my current plan is to run Ethernet (because its cheap and easy), Display Port, and Thunderbolt 3. The Ethernet is kind of extra and I probably won't use it. I will have an active DP cable into my GPU since I don't think I can run it through TB3 since its 3440x1440p @120hz with G-Sync. Then I will have TB3 (prob with a TB4 cable for future proofing) for my peripherals including mouse, kb, mic, 1080p webcam. The thing I am worried about there is added latency so I figured TB would be better than USB. Does this sound good so far? For hardware I need to get a Thunderbolt card for my mobo and they have a weird proprietary TB header called ThunderboltEX. I can get one new or used but I can't tell if its required to use TB? Its a PCIe card with a cable to a 5 pin header. Can or should I just use a standard TB PCIe card? I don't mind getting one that isn't top spec because when I upgrade my mobo in the future I will look for one with built in TB 4. To recap, is Ethernet + DP + TB a good set of cables with low latency? Should I use ThunderboltEX or another card? Any recommendations for cables or TB hubs for on my desk? 4. I might try that but at this point I'm thinking its a MB failure and will prob part out the rest of the machine.
  5. I just checked my RAM by removing half at a time, no difference. I don't have any extra parts to check other things where I'm at for self quarantine though...
  6. It's an old ssd, Samsung 850 evo. Still possible it was my first ssd from like 6 years ago
  7. I have an old gaming machine running as a server with Windows 10 but it won't restart properly sometimes. When I restart, shutdown and turn on, unplug and replug, or hard restart (power button 4 sec), theres about a 30% chance my computer actually posts, the rest of the time the fans run and no video out. I can't figure out what the pattern is and I get weird errors. One time it put me into the CMOS time and date setup, once Windows tried to "recover" and went into a disc check, and sometimes it goes into Windows safe start. I have a MB speaker and it almost never chirps and theres no indication of anything being wrong in the BIOS (when I can get to it). I set the BIOS to defaults and no change. Any ideas? 8. So I could get the Arris SURFboard and the UDM or USG + another AP. What exactly does the cloud key do?
  9. Happy holidays LTT, I am trying to figure out what to get to fix the internet in my parent's house. I want to see if buying our own modem and router would be better and cheaper in the long term. We currently have an Xfinity modem+router Cisco DPC3941T, Cisco 16 port switch, 3x Unifi UAP-LR access points. We have 300Mbps internet and I think specing for 500Mbps is good enough for future proofing. We only get about 10-15Mbps upload and I would like better speed, is that limited by hardware of the ISP? Right now I have an old desktop running as the Unifi controller for mesh but I would love to remove that. I think its necessary to have that computer in order for the mesh to work but I really don't know and its hard to tell what it effects. Ideally, the new router would work with, and control the Unifi mesh. Can anyone recommend a modem and router that would work for our house? Thanks for the help. TL:DR Have: Cisco DPC3941T modem+router from Xfinity 3x Unifi UAP-LR access points Desktop pc running the mesh software Want: Modem that can handle 500Mbps Keep the 3 APs Router that works with the Unifi mesh Remove the desktop pc Better upload speeds if possible
  10. It's a stock chip that hasn't been used when I got it last month. I don't want to delid but if the 212 doesn't seem to cool it, I will probably do it.
  11. I opened a RMA with Corsair so I think in the mean time I'll pick up a decent air cooler since I don't have any backups. I got the H100i 4.5 years ago so its just in the warranty period of 5 years.
  12. I cleaned both sides, used a rice sized dot of paste, reassembled, ran it for about 2 min to see any change and to verify my pump speed, here is the pic of the CPU.
  13. I did notice the line in the middle too but the paste was spread to the edge so I don't know. @Falkentyne what do you think of my last two posts?
  14. I'm concluding that the pump is broken... The top tube seemed to get pretty hot but the radiator and bottom tube is cool. Also wouldn't 47C be hot for the aio temp?
  15. Just got home. Reapplied thermal paste and its not looking great. About to take off the block and see what the paste looks like.
