  1. Tried disconnecting the USB 3.0 header, but still nothing, so strange, can't find anyone else having this issue online...
  2. Hi guys, I've now also tried: Booting with nothing connected over USB not even kb/mouse - No change Amended memory settings and booted with single RAM module - No change Disabled fast boot no change - No change I didn't try plugging in a second screen but I'm getting this problem in BIOS too so it shouldn't be that right? Thanks for the help guys
  3. Hi Guys, Hope someone can help as this problem is driving me crazy! Essentially I have no display output when my PC soft reboots. If the power is cut completely on reboot it powers back up as normal. This is causing massive issues trying to upgrade to Windows 10 as I'm not able to see the progress when it reboots to know whether it's okay to hard reboot so I can see the screen again! I've currently tried the following to no avail...: Remove GPU and used iGPU - No change Moved GPU to second slot - No change Swapped GPU for different card - No change Replaced PSU - No change Removed all devices except keyboard and mouse - No change Updated motherboard BIOS to latest version - No change Updated GPU drivers to latest version - No change When I removed all devices I just entered the BIOS and "Saved and reset" and still experienced the issue so it's definitely before drivers are loaded. I'm not sure what else to try... Any help would be more than appreciated.
  4. Does anyone else have any ideas on this? It's really bugging me and I haven't found a solution yet.
  5. Thanks for all the input guys. Just to update, I'm running both cards right next to each other in an mATX case (BitFenix Pandora) at the moment and they both run cooler than my old singular card (although it was an OCed 4890!) so all is good.
  6. Hello Guys, I'm picking up a couple of video cards tomorrow and am concerned they'll generate a lot of heat as both cards are dual slot and will sit right next to each other. I'm thinking about using a riser to separate them, but I'm wondering, will the thumbscrew mounts for the plate on the card be enough to hold the card securely? Or is there another way I can make sure there isn't too much stress on the card from it being held up in one spot? Thanks, Jordan
  7. When I the PC reset from a BIOS change I made I waited about 5 minutes and nothing happened. Seems like it just doesn't physically trigger the power off/power on once it's finished.
  8. It restarts using the reset switch on the PC, pressing the power button when it's in the black screen state doesn't seem to do anything.
  9. Hello, I've just built a new computer today and I've noticed that it won't restart if given the command through software (e.g. selecting restart from Windows). The computer failed to restart when doing the installation of Windows, when selecting restart from the motherboard and from within Windows, just to clarify the screen does go inactive and power off but the tower remains on. The system restarts perfectly fine using the hardware button. It's also worth noting that I did have the same problem with shutdown, but this now appears to be working after installing motherboard drivers. UPDATE: The computer does restart when asked to from within Windows or the BIOS however there is no display output. I know this as I can remote into the PC once it reboots. I just cannot get anything on screen. I have upgraded my GPU and still have this issue. Any advice? Thanks, Jordan
  10. Okay, so definitely needs to be replaced before thinking about an even more power hungry GPU. I see what you're saying, one of the main goals with my system is to make sure I don't max out my motherboard straight away and leave no room for improvement in the future (hence not considering a high end AMD alternative). I'm not too worried about having to reinstall (always enjoy that fresh install feel) so is it worth using the G3258 as a "stop-gap" until I can afford a i5? I really just want a machine useable for gaming until I can take the plunge so unsure whether to limit myself with a previous gen board. Do you think it's worth waiting and putting up with the G3258 for now so I can have a 4690K or 4790K a few months down the line or will a 3770K be good enough for years to come? What does something like a 3770K go for atm? I think you're 100% right about the case, sort the bits out that matter first and then worry about that further on down the road. Unfortunately selling isn't really an option as the SATA controller has died so all HDs are now running off an external dock... Perhaps sell off the components minus the motherboard? Appreciate all the feedback by the way guys, thanks
  11. Current system: CPU: AMD 64 X2 6400+ GPU: XFX 4890 XXX Edition PSU: Corsair CX600 Optical Drive: 24x Super Multi drive RAM: 4GB (4x1GB) DDR3 (any popular brand) HDD: Samsung 750GB (on it's way out) Case: NZXT Phantom Motherboard: Abit KN9
  12. That's my train of thought, do you think the CX600 would still hold up if I went with an 4670k and a 290X? I know the 290X draws a lot of power. In regards to memory, is it worth getting 1x8GB instead of 2x4GB? Am I right in thinking that 1 stick will effectively halve my memory bandwidth? Storage shouldn't be a problem as I can always add disks as I run into space issues or move files around (e.g. external disks) Do you think second hand parts might be a false economy in terms of upgrading in the future? The system I have now is a full tower ATX case and now that I'm in a much smaller house, it taking up so much space is a big deal for me.
  13. The GPU, PSU and Optical drive are parts I already have so they're effectively zero cost. I'm looking to try and utilize the parts I can from my old system but give myself room to upgrade when I have the cash for a better GPU and CPU in a couple months. Open to considerations on cases though as it is on the pricier side.
  14. Hello everyone, First time on the forums here and only just getting back in to gaming on my PC again so be gentle I was initially looking to upgrade my machine but it has been far too long and so an almost completely new system is required. 1. Budget & Location I'm in the UK and my beginning budget is ~£300 so value is important. 2. Aim I'm aiming to get a gaming experience which is better than that of a console since I'm choosing a PC over one so solid 60FPS at 1080p where possible. I've also got a 4K TV that I'd like to hook my machine upto in order to play some games at 4K (I'm thinking WoW here not BF4 on Ultra with full AA don't worry), although HDMI 2.0 might not be possible so could be looking at 30hz which should be fairly achievable. 3. Monitors As I say above, looking at playing at 1080p so any monitor will do really. I've previously only used a 1024x768 so anything will be a massive improvement on the desk! In some instances I'll be looking to hook up to my 4K TV but only for games where the GPU can handle it. 4. Peripherals I've got all the peripherals I'll be needing, mainly just looking at the system and a monitor for the desk. 5. Why are you upgrading? Built a gaming machine when the ATI 4890 was top of the range and haven't upgraded since, now looking to start fresh and hopefully give myself more room to upgrade this time around. 6. Provisional build Parts in bold are new parts I'm going to buy, parts in italics are salvaged from my old machine and so are zero cost. CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 GPU: XFX 4890 XXX Edition PSU: Corsair CX600 Optical Drive: 24x Super Multi drive RAM: 8GB (2x4) DDR3 (any popular brand) HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB Case: BitFenix Prodigy M Midnight MicroATX Monitor: 20"+ 1080p monitor Motherboard:Asus Maximus VI Link to all other parts I'm thinking the best way to go is the lowest end haswell chip as it's still a lot more powerful than the AMD 6400+ I have at the moment and is obviously a very good overclocker even on air. It also gives me the best upgrade path as in a couple of months when I've got some spare cash I can pick up a 4670K or 4790K? I'm also thinking the board would be good as I'm wanting to pick up a 290X to give my gaming a boost a short while after I've upgraded the CPU, then there's always the possibility of going Xfire and making more games playable/bareable at 4K. Let me know your thoughts guys, I'll be interested to know what everyone thinks. Sorry about the wall of text, just want to make my intentions clear! Thanks, Jordan Edited wording for clarity :-)
