  1. Sorry to reopen this thread but I just ran a lot of tests today. The main change I noticed was load temp. Before I was getting into the high 70's and now I rarely touch even the mid 70's. The only thing I noticed hasn't changed too much is my idle temps. I know they do not matter too much but it still seems to stay at 40-42c and after a good 15 mins of just simply browsing on the internet it will eventually go down to 36-38c.
  2. Whatever works works
  3. Alright. Just installed 2 orings to the back of the plate on each corner. Booted up and I noticed something I haven't before. My temps were better B) ! I am now idling between 29-30c and before I was idling between 38-45c. Ran intel extreme tuning utility and stressed for 5 mins. Instead of when I used to hit 75c+ I maxed out at around 62c. After it ended I dropped back down to 35c. The only thing I did notice that now and then it will spike up to 45-48c for a second or two and come back down to 35c. As for real life testing, I played some Battlefield 4 and the cpu stayed at 46-48c almost constant but after 30 mins of playtime the highest it got to was 62c.Thanks for all the help in fixing my issue W-L and App4That!
  4. Sounds good. I'll try it out whenever I get the chance and see if this fixes the issue.
  5. Alright thanks so much for all the help. If I cannot match anything I also have some o-rings that went to an old cherry mx keyboard to dampen the sounds. They are probably nowhere near the correct diameter.
  6. Ah alright. I'll run out to the hardware store and pickup some of those. They should have no problem fitting the bracket as well right? Only should need 1 on each corner.
  7. Yeah I have had the h80i ever since I had AMD. Worked fine on the 8350 and now that I switched over to intel I guess this might be an issue. I know they are just washers and nothing to make a huge deal about but would you think these would get the job done: http://www.homedepot.com/p/DANCO-1-2-in-Flat-Washers-10-Pack-88569/203231998
  8. Just got this chip today as a gift from a relative. If the washer method doesn't come out too well I might look into RMA
  9. Alright thanks for all the suggestions. Will grab some tomorrow and see if this improves the contact of the cooler. Will update!
  10. This sounds most likely like my issue. Have any idea how big the washers should be?
  11. So before I mount the cooler the standoffs should be solid and not have any give at all? I can almost push them back and fourth. That's what these washers compensate for?
  12. I currently am using my radiator as an exhaust. Yet about this washer thing. I do not know if I need them or not. See, when I have the standoffs in alone and not the block mounted I noticed they can wiggle a bit and the back plate isn't firm at all. Once I mount the water block the back plate then is solid and there is no give.
  13. Everything in my bios is set to default in my bios so it reaches 4.4ghz sometimes. If you need more info I can provide it but here is after a good hour and a half of gaming: Here is cpuz:
  14. Yeah after I installed the waterblock and looked on the backplate there was no give. It was on the motherboard solid.
  15. Happy Holidays everyone. I guess this year I upgraded to an i7 4790k. I know like the millions of other posts about this CPU and temps I just have an odd question about what has been going on. At the moment I have an h80i on the 4790k and I know it isn't the best cooler out there for it I just was not expecting these temps: Idle: 42c average Underload: 75c+. Even simple source games that use only 30% of usage will bring it to this temp What I noticed is almost the slightest change in usage will make the temp rise a lot. For instance while I am typing this I am running at 45c and have only 7% cpu usage. What I have tried: -remounting numerous times -Updating my bios (already latest) -Resetting to default settings Specs: i7 4790k msi z97 PC mate motherboard 16gb 1600mhz ram corsair cx750m psu The only thing I think I could have done wrong was when I first installed the CPU and my pc booted a message on the screen appeared saying that the cpu has changed and it asked if I wanted to restore to defaults on the motherboard and run the setup. I was going to click the setup option but my keyboard wasn't being detected by my PC at all. I restarted and my keyboard connected but it just booted to windows. I do not know how I could get back to that if it is even the issue.
