    Monitor Upgrade

I currently have a 1080p 144hz monitor which isn't too bad actually but just feel like as I am getting the 3080 I should upgrade. Would 1440p 144hz be worth the upgrade from what I currently have? (which I would be using as a 2nd monitor regardless).

    Monitor Upgrade

So I'm finally upgrading from a 980 TI to a RTX 3080 and I want to upgrade to a 4K monitor, I am just a casual gamer but happy to spend to get the right monitor without the need to upgrade for 3 to 5 years. I don't particular want a screen bigger than 32" but might consider it. I'm based in the UK, any suggestions? TIA!
  3. Hello there, I am looking for some advice, I run a home plex media server on a 5 year old Fujitsu tower server running Windows 8.1 and I am looking at replacing this for 2 main reasons: 1. I am running out of space and will need to add drives to it in the future 2. Whilst not overly loud it does make a humming sound and it's just enough to annoy you when trying to sleep at night. In the last 2 months I've also replaced my main PC rig meaning I have some spare components sitting around such as: i7 6700k 16GB 3200Mhz DDR4 ROG VIII Ranger Z170 NZXT H440 Case Corsair HX850i (probably overkill for a NAS!) As far as I know, the only additional things I would need to turn my old rig into a NAS is a new CPU cooler (repurposed my previous cooler) and some new NAS HDD's. I assume using SSD's would be pointless for this type of build. Would adding a 10G network card be beneficial for future proofing? Whatever choice I go with, I want this new system to last me at least another 5/6 years before needing to upgrade again. I don't have the requirement currently to transcode multiple 4K streams etc however I would like the system to be capable of doing that (say upto 4 streams at once if this is possible?). I also want a system that is quiet and can be left on 24/7. In terms of what I am looking to do, would I be better going with a DiY solution or would I be better off buying an Off the shelf solution and just adding drives to it. Appreciate any advice given!
  4. Ok thats fine, 1440p / 144hz it is, can anyone recommend a build then?
  5. Hey there, looking for some advice on a new build I am planning to do soon, now I am based in the UK. I would like an i7 6700k preferably but not set in stone, 16GB DDR4 Ram minimum, 980ti etc, I would also like a new monitor either 4k or a 144hz (screen size 27/28"). Only things I don't need currently is mouse, HDD's, SSD's, OS and headphones. Budget around £1800 to £2000 but cheaper the better obviously! Thanks J

    What to do

As my system is 32bit and only got 2GB ram would FreeNas work? The minimum requirements on the website state 64bit and 8gb ram ?
  7. Hey there, I have abit of a conundrum at the moment, basically I have a HP ProLiant G7 Microserver which seems quiet low spec to me (2GB Ram, 2.2GH'z AMD processor). Currently I have Windows 8 installed on there and a couple of Hard Drives which are merged to give me around 8TB of space. My first question is I am not sure if I should change the OS, basically I would like to setup Plex server for streaming. I would also like to be able to create folders and create permissions on them so that my youngler siblings don't accidently delete my files. Should I continue to use W8 or should I use a different OS? (I am happy to give Linux a try if that is recommended) My second question is that unfortunately we don't have any data cabling inside our house. Currently the server is in my bedroom wired to the router however it is a little noisey to leave on all the time. If I use a powerline adaptor for the server so that I can move it somewhere else will I notice any performance issues especially when it comes to streaming? I don't want to be watching something and then it gets laggy etc. Thanks for your help!
