My boss just give me permission to grab a new monitor and I wanted to make sure I get the best bang for my buck. It will be used mostly for work, Excel, email, browsing, ect. But I will use it for lite gaming as well, Mobas, WOW, various other games, and the future Shadow of War game. My current GPU is a 4 year old AMD Radeon HD 7800, so nothing special. I plan to upgrade to GTX 1060 6gb in the future. I have heard the 1060 can handle 4K normal display but gaming would push it. I would need a 1070 at least, but I am such a casual gamer I dont see it worth the money (unless told otherwise). The rest of my system is just as old and I plan to upgrade soon, to either a new Ryzen 5 or i5. I am waiting to see if any mini-ITX mobos come out for AMD4 socket. My current display is a Asus 21" 1080p, so anything is an upgrade. I will still use the existing monitor as a 2nd screen. I would like to get 27" if it works into the budget. From my research I have found out the following - 4K monitor has more pixel density so I can have more apps open to work from at once - 144htz is is the best for gaming, but only comes in 1080p at this price range - If i go higher than 27" i need curved or 4K - Ultrawide would be cool, but probably out of the price range My overall questions is what monitor would you recommend for a causal gamer that is under $400? Any suggesting or advice is appreciated.

Thanks for you advice. I really appreciate it.

Good to know about the H100i, I have it from an older build so I was going to use it. Now that I think about it it was pretty loud. I see what you mean about purchasing at one time. Hopefully I can get the funds to do so soon. As for the Samsung SSD i have in my current, I was going to grab another one and use them as the Cache drives for the Unraid, like Linus did for one of his videos. I do have a M.2 128GB SSD laying around I was thinking of using as the boot drive for this build. It too small to put anything beside the OS and essential apps on it really. thats why i was thinking of doing the Hybrid for my everyday storage plus games/apps. I do like the build though, I have never done a MicroATX, Did you go with this mobo to be more quiet and cooler than an ATX board? I was concerning a Mini-ITX build but decided against it for various reasons. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/xTWbNG

Ok that was exactly what I was wondering about the mobo, Whether the deluxe was worth the extra. The reason I had the m.2 SDD was because I already have it laying around. My friend upgraded his laptop and just gave me the 128GB. So I was thinking of putting the OS on it and everything else on the Hybrid. Bad idea? So you agree about the GTX 970?

Here is my current PC. But I am thinking of turning it into a NAS with Unraid and additional drives. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/HwZgRB

I would agree but then I would have to get a new Mobo also plus the CPU. I'm guess that combine would be less than $200 if i go with haswell and not skylake. Any suggestions for which i3 and mobo?

Linus used 2 SSD for his cache drives, so I thought I should do the same. I already have a 250GB SSD in my current PC so I was thinking that the cache drives had to be the same size to work.

I am in the process of building a new PC and would like to use my current build as a Unraid NAS. My hope is to keep the price down and put most of the budget toward storage. Please review the below build and let me know if I need to change anything, or if my current build would not work as a NAS. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/J7qKyc Thank you for any advice in advance.

I would like to start building a new PC. It will be a process because I cant afford all the parts at once. But I would like to verify that the parts I have picked are the best bang for the buck. My goals are below. Budget around $1300 Gaming and workstation, 1080p gaming, nothing too hardcore. Mostly mobas Quiet and Cool, my office is a small room so i dont want it to be load and make the room super hot. Futureproof for at least the next 3-5 years. Optional: can play 4k movies i think I have a pretty good build put together. My concerns are the Mobo and graphic card. I am tend to like Asus over other brands, but I am open to suggestions. I would like the Mobo to have at least on USB 3.1 type A and type C.As for the graphics card, I tend to like Nvidia, but again I am open to suggestions. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/YRbNf7 My plan is to first buy the parts in the following order and upgrade my current build. I am hoping by spreading it out prices my drop on the more expensive parts by the time I can afford to grab them. The order is below, let me know if this is the right way. Case PSU Mobo, CPU, RAM, HDD Any suggestions and advice is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

@Redicat Any reason you recommend this build? I love the case, is any reason you chose the GD07 over the GD08? I am mostly wondering about the CPU and RAM. Everything else looks great, I am surprised the PSU is the same price as the one @brob recommended. Whats the difference between the P2 and G2, besides the wattage and 80+ cert?
-
nevermind about the m.2, the price is not worth saving a sata port. I ll just buy a expansion card if I need more Sata ports.

Brob, What do you think of using a m.2 for the OS is there an advantage over SSD? Then have a Hybrid/SSD for everyday software. Then use the NAS drives for storage. The reason i like the hybrid is I get the storage of HDD but the temp speed of a SSD. Any reason you dont like Hybrid? No ECC, from what I have read it is good for FreeNAS but otherwise not need for what I am doing. If I was running a business off the server, yeah it would be a good idea.

I actually saw the GD08 and loved it. I just couldnt find the rack kit so I wasnt sure about it. Do you have a URL?

I am would like to build a new Home Server for under $2000. The main usages are for Plex, Teamspeak, and File Sharing. I plan on putting Win 10 on it because I am most familiar with this OS and it has Storage Space. I consider FreeNAS but I am not sure if I could use it properly. I have put together a Build, but need help confirming it will work. Also I am not sure about the MOBO, these are always tough for me to spec. I know the PSU is probably overkill, but I plan on putting a 4K Graphic Card out once they become more available in low-power, so I added a little more Wattage. I dont need it for gaming just movies. I am also considering a SIlverstone G08 rack case, what do you think? Please let me know what I can change and where I am wrong. Any help is appreciated. So far i have looked at Silverstone and iStarUSA. I will check out Norco. I was thinking about the Define R5, I think it looks like a great case. I wasnt sure if I could mount it in a rack though, i hadnt even thought of getting a shelf.
