  1. My company actually blocks at the firewall and registry since you can block more at the firewall level, and like I said you can block "MOST" if it without affecting updates. But yes there is a lot to block and it keeps changing, we are a big company so there is a dedicated person to keep up with it, also is a lot easier on an enterprise firewall like Checkpoint and Palo Alto. Also we have seen that some updates have turned telemetry back on even though we disabled it in the registry, but that's and easy fix through GPO a home user will have to setup a script or just check it manually. Personally I think if a home user is worried about that kinda thing they should look at Linux and use Tor but I guess the OP likes to plot against the government while doing streaming their "let's play's"
  2. That sounds pretty promising, I guess I could use powerline adapters (data transfer trough your homes plug outlets) they pretty much have the same latency as a normal Ethernet connection. I guess I'm going to just have to get one and try it for myself.
  3. Hmm, I guess I could give it some more thought, the videos I've seen suggest the input lag is pretty minimal, I'm not exactly a pro gamer but at the same time I'd like to make sure it's not going to be too annoying.
  4. In my opinion blocking the telemetry doesn't break anything useful, I mean unless you like all ad sharing features and stuff like Cortana. You can block most of the telemetry without affecting updates, it's just am absolute mission since there are about 50 domains you'd have to block and and they change all the time.
  5. It is but I've heard quality is a bit better on Gamestream, and Shield has a 4K 60fps option
  6. So my PC desk is in my living room and I would like to play some games on my TV but it's close to the couch not the TV and I can't really run an HDMI cable across the room, so I'm thinking of getting a Shield so I can do Gamestream, but I'm wondering if I use an xbox controller direct to the PC instead of connecting to the Shield and if it would make any difference to the input lag, which from what I have read is only a little noticeable.

    Samsung CHG90

Still waiting for a video on this monitor. Anyone know which WAN show it was on, I'm wondering why they mocked it, looks pretty awesome. I'ts 1080p but Quantum Dot, HDR, IPS, 144Hz, Freesync. 1440p would have been better but I bet Quantum Dot, HDR looks better than a lot of mid-range 1440p ultrawides anyway. I would love it from a productivity perspective too, and yes obviously it is much cheaper to just get 2x 27" monitors but I just looks awesome!
  8. Thanks guys, I'll try all of the above, it's out of warranty though. Might wait for this to become available http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2015-new-ps4-hardware-is-quieter-cooler-and-more-power-efficient-blog
  9. Haha I'll give it a shot but the fan must already be blowing at full speed when I play a game
  10. Erm... that's a fan test not a self clean haha I guess I'll start with blowing it out, but I don't think it's over heating from dust since it was even pretty noisy from the start. Well it's out if warranty so I guess if blowing it out doesn't work I'll try replace the thermal paste... such a mission though!
  11. So I've had my PS4 over a year now and it's been pretty loud since I got it, more than what I would expect is acceptable for a living room device, but I figured consoles are shit and that's what I'll have to deal with when playing PS4 exclusives. But it seems to have gotten much worse, I was playing Until Dawn for about 30mins or so and it sounded like it was going to take off! Looking on the net it seems like it's a big problem but also very hit or miss. Some people report their PS4 is as silent as a mouse even under load, others say the problem developed over time, other say they've had the issue from the beginning and had it exchanged under warranty, and the new one was just as bad. A few people have said opening it up and replacing the thermal paste solved the issue and others say replacing the thermal paste made not difference. Anyone had this problem, what do you suggest? The company that handles the Warranty in my country will replace the console even if it's out of warranty for half the price of a new one, and the new one I get will have a 3 month warranty but they assure me it will be a new device so if it as noisy as the old one I can swap it out again, but obviously like to avoid that...

    What's The Catch?

10 years!?!? erm... no This 49" UHD is only a bit more expensive than a 48" FHD TV 4K content is growing every month, I see more and more youtube and Netflix content available in 4K, which I currently view on my 4K monitor, and most manufacturers are scaling back on 1080p production. I have SLI GTX980Ti's I can game in most instances in 4K @60FPS however some games I ether have to settle for lower res or lower FPS. I need a new TV anyway so it makes sense to get the standard that will be used going forward if the price allows for it. I have seen up-scaled images of PS4 games on 4K in store (not on this specific TV) and they definitely looked better. So my question is not about if I should get 4K, I've already made that decision, it's about whether this 4K TV 49UF770T is any good, because for the price it's actually cheaper than some 48" FHD's here, hence why I am thinking there is some kind of catch.

    What's The Catch?

So I'm looking to get a 4K TV on a budget or so to speak, and I came across the below model. LG 49UF770T.AFB http://www.lg.com/za/tvs/lg-49UF770T/technical-specifications What's weird is that it looks like this model is only available in my country (South Africa) and Australia and there are no reviews of it anywhere. It costs R9,900.00 ($770.00USD) which is about the cheapest 4K 49" I can find by quite a long shot and it seems like a pretty good deal. I can't find anything any major draw backs apart from I can't tell if any of the HDMI ports support 2.0 What do you guys think, it's currently on special so if I'm going to go for it I should probably do it soon.
  14. Erm... I think they should get a UPS for the Server Room Also where the heck are they putting those AP's? Stay away from the corners, if it's a decent AP, one of them should saturate that whole area if it's central and omnidirectional
