  1. Hi, I recently upgraded my CPU and motherboard (from I5 6600K to Ryzen 7 5800X) and I want to give my old components to my dad. The problem is I kept my original RAM so it's not a working computer yet. (Current RAM: 24GB, 2x4gb and 2x8gb, Corsair Vengeance lpx 3000 MHz) Now i'm wondering if I should get some new RAM for myself (I would go for 32gb 2x16 probably 3600 MHz) and use my current ram for the old pc or just get a new 16gb kit for the old pc. Will there be a noticable difference if I were to get new RAM? And if yes, how much do timings matter / what is recommended these days? I mostly use my pc for playing games (the finals, battlefield 1, warframe), programming, and a bit of music production.
  2. I'm pretty sure your board supports windows 11. Just make sure you have fTPM and Secure Boot enabled in the bios and you should be good to go. If your bios version is F62 or higher it should be enabled by default.
  3. Update: I sent an email to Cooler Master and this was their response: So I'm just going to try and see if it fits I guess... and if it doesn't I'm going to have to put it back on my current setup which is gonna suck but what else can I do. Update update: They lied, it doesn't fit. Fuck this, i'm getting a new cooler.
  4. Good idea, thanks for the suggestion. Just sent them an email
  5. Hmm I don't trust myself enough to not mess something like that up so I guess I have my answer then.
  6. Hi, I'm upgrading my CPU from an i5 6600k (LGA 1151 socket) to a Ryzen 7 5800X (AM4 socket). I thought I could just reuse my trusty Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO which I have since around 2018, but now i'm reading that the mounting mechanism might be different for newer versions of the 212 EVO. The manual says it's compatible with the AM2/AM3/AM3+ sockets but i'm seeing mixed messages about using it on AM4 and possibly needing an AM4 mounting bracket. The current bracket I have is the X shaped one with screws that can go in 3 different positions and plate for the back of the motherboard. Can I use what I have or do I need a new mounting bracket or would it be better to just get a new cooler?
  7. I have my own VPN server. It's a L2TP VPN with preshared key running on Windows Server 2016. Nothing special but it works... untill yesterday that is. I had to move my server to a different house (it's running at home), which I thought would be no problem. Did the port forwarding, set up DNS stuff, everything seems to work. So I tested the VPN with my (I)phone and it works. Now comes the confusing part. When I try to connect to the VPN via windows I get: "The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer encountered a processing error during the initial negotiations with the remote computer" I haven't changed anything configuration wise and the VPN works on my phone but my 2 windows machines can't connect anymore for some reason. What I tried: - Checked that the required registry key is there (AssumeUdpEncapsulationOnSendRule, or whatever it's called) - Checked that the required services are running (IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules and IPsec Policy Agent) - Checked that the ms chap v2 box is checked at the vpn adapter - Checked that the LCP extensions box is checked at the vpn adapter - Checked that the correct ports are forwarded to the correct ip (ports 500, 4500 and 1701 although I think 1701 isn't needed) Again, it used to work on my windows machines and now it doesn't, but does on my phone. Does anyone have any clues as to what is going on? Edit: I am stupid. Apparently it was a DNS issue. I forgot to update the '@' record so the connection would've worked if I used www. in front of my url, which I didn't. Updated the record and now everything works fine!
  8. Just want to update this post so anyone that might find it can see what i did. I opened up my gpu and immediately noticed that the stock thermal paste was completely dry. After removing the old thermal paste I used the thermal paste (out of the tube) that came with my CM Hyper 212 Evo cooler. I did some benchmarking and noticed that my gpu now runs about 30 degrees celcius cooler! That's insane! Anyway, I hope this might help someone in the future!
  9. It's in a tube, so i guess i'm good to go.
  10. Hi there, My GPU (MSI R9 380 4GB) has been getting a bit too hot for comfort while gaming, and with too hot I mean 99 degrees celcius. This is measured with Radeon settings (or whatever its called these days) and MSI Afterburner. Both report the same temps. I have already cleaned my pc and removed dust from the gpu, but I still hit 99 degrees when gaming. Also i'm pretty sure it goes above 99 but i'm getting a feeling that afterburner doesn't go any higher than 99. Now, since i don't plan on cooking anything with my pc i've decided to replace the gpu's thermal paste. The only thermal paste I have is the one that came with my cooler master hyper 212 evo. I heard that I should use non-conductive thermal paste but I can't find any specs for this paste. So my question is: is it safe to use my hyper 212 evo's thermal paste on my gpu?
  11. Hi, My setup is as follows: - cpu: i5 6600k - gpu: MSI R9 380 4gb - ram: Corsair Vengeance lpx 8gb ddr4 3000mhz - mobo: Gigabyte G1.Sniper B7 - psu: Cooler Master G650M My monitors are: - LG MP59G (middle monitor, connected via displayport) - Samsung S22C150 (right monitor, connected via a hdmi to vga adapter) - Acer x243h (left monitor, connected via a dvi to vga adapter) Now, previously this setup has worked just fine, until yesterday. Whenever I have all 3 of my monitors connected, the one in the middle gets no signal and doesn't get detected by radeon settings/software. Windows however does detect it but seems to struggle with what it is (see picture). When i disconnect either the left or the right monitor the middle one gets a signal again, but when i connect the 3rd monitor the middle one gets no signal again. Something else which is also happening (since 2 days ago) and might be related is: Whenever i get my pc out of sleep mode the lights go on but i don't get a signal on my monitors. Sometimes it takes about a minute before it randomly gets a signal and sometimes i have to hard reboot to get a signal. I have tried updating the video card drivers and the event viewer doesn't show anything. Is this the end of my gpu?
  12. So I have this project for a school assignment in which, among other things, I have to get a server for a small business. Except there's one small problem.... I don't know anything about server hardware. The server is going to be a virtualization host that has to run 2 VM's. One is a domain controller/File server and the other is an exchange server. The budget for this server is around €4.000,- What kind of hardware do i need for this and is this even achievable? (Note: I don't need to buy the server, I only need the specs/model)
  13. so, Last weekend i made a hackintosh with the help of a friend. And now every time my pc boots it adds another boot option (see picture) and i keep disabling them. It always adds another [UEFI: CT250MX500SSD1, Partition 1] and i think there are so many now that i can't even open my boot menu anymore. These are the BIOS settings i changed when creating the hackintosh: Load Optimized Defaults If your BIOS has a VT-d setting, disable it If your system has CFG-Lock, disable it If your system has Secure Boot Mode, disable it Set OS Type to Windows 8/10 (I have CSM still enabled otherwise my windows drive can't be found) Set XHCI Handoff to Enabled Does anyone know how to stop my pc from creating boot options and remove boot options? (not just disabling them)
  14. So my current setup looks like this: CPU: I5 6600K CPU RAM: 2x 4GB DDR4 3000Mhz MB: Gigabyte G1.Sniper B7 (B150 Chipset) GPU: R9 380 4GB Yes, I know it wasn't very smart to get a CPU that you can overclock and a MB that doesn't support overclocking. (also ram that can run at 3000Mhz but also not supported, now runs at ~2100mhz) I didn't think much about it when i got it because i wasn't planning on overclocking anyways, but then I found out that my RAM also doesn't run at the speed it can run at. Now I don't know if it's true or not, but I think that the z270 chipset MB's are slowly going away since the new generation CPU's can only go on z370 MB's and if that's the case, would the prices go up or down? Would it mean much in performance if i would upgrade to a newer MB? (like the MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon, since i've been looking at that one) Or should i just stay with the setup I have now?
  15. That looks like something is downloading, maybe you should turn off your internet connection (disconnect from wifi/remove cable)
