  1. I need some serious help! Today my PC shut down completely out of the blue. Now, when I try to turn it on again, it turns on for half a second and the fans turn a bit before turning off again. It does this repeatedly until I turn it off from the plug. I've tried everything! Reseating the RAM, checking connections, disconnecting the GPU, DVD drive and anything else non-essential and even removing the CMOS battery and waiting before putting it in again. I'm at wits end. What do I do?
  2. Hi, recently my headphones started to malfunction, with the only sound coming from them a high pitched ring accompanied by crackling noises. The mic is also nonfunctional. The headphones themselves work fine, and this happens with any headphones I try. This happens with both the front and back jacks. I've disabled, enabled and reinstalled several drivers to the same end. The HDMI audio works, so i can use the speakers on my monitor. From what I can tell, this started happening after I had to remove a malfunctioning GPU from my PC, so I'm thinking I might have accidentally damaged something doing so. Is there anything I can try right now to fix this? If not, do i require a new sound card and will a cheap one suffice since? Thanks
  3. Nope, both of em have the exact same error.
  4. Hi, recently the audio from my headphones along with the microphone stopped working. Instead, I hear a high pitched ring along with some crackling static. The headphones work fine, I've used them with other devices, and I've used other pairs of headphones with the same error. However, the HDMI Audio works fine. My monitor's speakers works and also when I connect the headphones to them. I've disabled, enabled and reinstalled a bunch of drivers, but same error. I've recently had to remove my GPU because of a malfunction, so could it be that I accidentally damaged my motherboard's audio doing so somehow? Is there anything I can try before I pin it to that conclusion, and if it is, what can I do? Buy a sound card? Thanks
  5. Hi. I have a GPU with a malfunctioning fan, and I'm almost certain it is the reason why my card is failing. (More context here:) However, when I opened it up I found that the Fan could not be directly unplugged Some have suggested that I cut the fan's cables and isolate them. Should I do this? Or is there some other course of action I can try?
  6. I realised it isn't even the same type of connector so I can't just move them closer. In another post someone suggested cutting the wires and isolating them. Seems a bit extreme but idk what else to do.
  7. Hi. I need to disconnect my GPU fan due to it causing trouble. However, the fan I need to disconnect (Leftmost in the image), seems to be directly connected to the all the fans' PCB connector. How do I disconnect that one fan and leave the other 2 running?
  8. Currently trying this but I found something weird and I don't know what to make of it. The fan in question seems directly connected with the PCB's fan connector. How do I separate it?
  9. This only occurs when gaming, though. Never randomly during miscellaneous use. Could that really be it?
  10. I just tried playing Minecraft with the Afterburner GPU temperature overlay. It didn't take long before another failure. But before it did the card was reaching around 36°~39°C. That doesn't seem awful, does it? As for this, I had VSync turned on, but the same thing happened.
  11. I would've thought so, but the card failed on Black Mesa, which isn't extremely intensive. And just a few days ago I tried Minecraft thinking it's safe. It failed as well (but luckily it restarted no problem)
  12. GPU in question: Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X Tri-x Hi, a few weeks back my GPU failed while I was playing Black Mesa, crashing the PC often until the GPU wouldn't send a signal. I tried it again a week later, and it turned on, but I found one of the fans wasn't working, so the card must've overheated. (Image below) Tested a bit with MSI Afterburner and found that the fan would only start working when set to 85%, then keep working until I set it to 80%. What can I do to fix the fan and avoid GPU Failure? Replace it? This setup is kinda old (almost 5 years), but I don't have the money to upgrade so I'd like to keep using it a bit more. Thanks!
  13. (This post might be a bit too long and detailed, but I don't want to be misunderstood and get mistaken advice, so bear with me. Thanks!) Hi. A few weeks back I was playing Black Mesa, when the game started to crash my PC, with the monitor displaying vertical stripes of 2 colours, each time having to hard reboot. Until after like the 6th time, the video card would simply not send a signal. Cleaned it and everything, and nothing. So I stored it away for about a week and used the PC with integrated graphics. When I tried again that week later, the card actually worked! But I realised that one of the 3 fans on the card was not working properly, so I assumed the card was originally failing due to overheating. This fan would turn a bit upon boot but then remain stationary. I installed Afterburner to test it a bit and found that it was behaving odd. It would only start spinning when I set the fan speed to about 85%, then when I lowered it, keeps spinning until 80%. So as of recently, I have not been doing any gaming with it. I tried Minecraft thinking that's safe, but it caused another fail (Luckily it rebooted no problem, but I wasn't gonna try it again). The Graphics Card I'm using is the Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X Tri-X What should I do? Some seem to suggest replacing the fan, is that it? I've been using this setup for close to 5 years, but I currently don't have the money or motivation to upgrade anything, so if possible I'd like to keep using this GPU for a bit more and not pay too much. Thanks!
  14. OK thanks a lot! I'll download the optional one since I've never had any trouble with those.
  15. Ah OK i understand. So the older driver can also be used in case you're experiencing problems with the optional driver you have installed. If i want the latest version i would use the new optional one right?
