  1. Hi all, I just got an LG UM95 today and after hooking it up to my pc I noticed some strange anomalies. Thin lines of discoloration and thin lines of flicker sometimes appeared, then after a while even a quarter of the vertical screen would blank out, look like static then return to normal with a 'pop' over the speakers. I have another monitor connected and that was not showing any strange issues. I tried swapping inputs (HDMI and Display port) and swapping the GPU outputting the signal and problem persisted. Also tried each GPU alone with no crossfire, still there. I am pretty sure the issue is with the monitor, but thought it would be best to ask LMG community for their interpretation. Behaves worse after playing games, especially Train Simulator (my kids love it) Please let me know what you think and any way of testing my monitor. Cheers. 2. Thank you so much Octavialicious, You have officially sold me on 4k! I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions clearly and with explanations. I am used to 60hz and can't wait for that 'WOW' moment with my new 4K monitor. Thanks for giving your own personal experience as well, that is what I really wanted, a first hand experience from someone using a similar set up to mine who is also moving up from 60hz 1080. Really could not have asked for better. Happy gaming and thanks again.
  3. I am really interested in this monitor and have a very similar system spec as you do. Would you mind terribly giving me some insight into your experiences with this monitor? I would also greatly appreciate knowing what you upgraded from. Did you upgrade from a 1080P 60hz or 120hz? Or maybe even a WQHD 120hz. I am curious because I am wondering weather I should go for the UE590 (freesync) or a BenQ WQHD at 144hz with freesync and would really like to know, from someone who has actually experienced them, if resolution trumps hz or vice versa. I have found absolutely nowhere to look and compare high end gaming monitors so a review of your personal experience would be greatly appreciated. However, I do understand that you have a life to lead and may not want to spend your time reviewing something for some random, so no drama if all you can muster is "It's great, buy it!", but I really would like some more elaboration if you have time. I have never played anything above 1080p and 60hz and have only recently built my first pc so I really need some insight before laying out around $600 for a new monitor. Thanks a bunch.
  4. Silent, but violent! I gotta say though, othertomperson's 'Bob' does have a nice ring to it. Zephyr is definitely classy.
  5. Thank you very much for replying and giving your suggestions. Is there a store where you can test out monitors? I live in the US but am English and don't know the stores well at all. I have tried best buy, but their selection was small and only a couple of 1080 monitors were set up. Also, the general consensus I have seen online is that 144hz only really comes into its own playing lots of FPS. Do you, MRE Tech and dadasmithywinkle, mostly play FPS games on a 144hz monitor or do you feel 144hz is better all round? If so, why?
  6. Would you guys please give me your views on refresh rate importance to image quality. I have never played on anything above 60hz 1080p, but now have a system that could handle much more and am wondering if WQHD at 144hz would be a more pleasurable gaming experience than UHD at 60hz. From what I have read it seems competitive gamers like higher hz for a more accurate/faster image to help them react. Is this the whole story or am I missing something? I would like the best, laid back experience playing games and am not interested in competitive gaming, so I would imagine 4k at 60hz would fit me best. Please let me know your opinions and suggestions as I would like to know as much as possible from more seasoned gamers before I drop $600 on a new monitor. I will be getting a freesync monitor by the way. System spec if needed I7 4790K 290X x 2 16g 2166 ram Asus max hero MB I play recent releases, FPS games as well as Skyrim and diablo 3. In case the type of game makes a difference when choosing a monitor. Cheers for the help!
  7. I am new to PC building and would have been truly lost without Linus and his crew. I went from knowing next to nothing to, thanks to techquickie and later linustechtips, knowing enough to build myself a pc I am very proud of. Without the fast and incredibly helpful tech quickies I think I would have given up without even starting. They made me feel knowledgeable (enough) and confident. so quickly. the whole process went from exciting, but daunting, to exciting and a hell of a lot of fun. The instillation guides and product reviews on Linustechtips were just as useful and entertaining, as well as being very professionally finished. I really can't say how much stress and worry was taken off me by the information and knowledge shared by Linus and his team. I am a worrier, as such I was very nervous about messing up and wrecking hundreds of dollars worth of kit I had to beg the missus to let me get. You really helped wash that worry away. So again, a really big thank you, you are all stars! P.S. I am also new to forums and worried about making a mistake, which is possibly why this reads like an amazon review or a letter from a bank manager rather than a heartfelt thank you. P.P.S. When reading this back to myself (checking for errors -worrier-) I couldn't help but hear it in Linus' voice during one of the product placement spiels! Am I insane? Have I simply watched too many Linus videos? Or did anyone else do that too, assuming anyone else actually reads this. Please like, dislike, leave comments down below if your views are more complicated that that.................................I think "I have watched too many Linus videos" is the answer.
