Around 5 weeks ago my friend decided to build his first computer, everything went smoothly. His computer appeared to be very stable and even went through a graphics card stress and a cpu prime 95 test just to make sure. However in the past week the computer was acting up. Upon waking the computer from sleep mode everything appeared normal, but once he logged in his whole screen was black and all he could see was his mouse pointer. So he hit ctrl-alt-delete and restarted the computer. This black screen continued to appear after around 5 restarts until eventually the computer started normally. Just yesterday he went to power on his computer and then suddenly, nothing, no lights turning on no fans spinning no display showing the computer appeared to be completely dead. I feel like this could be related to a faulty power supply or motherboard but i would like too have anymore insight or opinions, Cheers,

Both are on sale, just wondering from other peoples opinions, Which is a better game. (I plan to play co-op and singleplayer)

First build - tips & helpful information
Squigg replied to Squigg's topic in New Builds and Planning
Hmm i have heard about the skylake bending problem as the cpu wafer itself is thinner, later down the road i am going to buy a cheap aftermarket cooler ( hyper 212 or hyper tx3 ) As for the ram i have heard all positive reviews and they come with a lifetime warranty, I will take your other points into considerations, thanks! -

Hey LTT community, I know this information can be found online and on several videos. But i would like to see what the LTT community has to say about first time building tips. I come from a heavy computer back ground especially with my uncle. This will be my first build and since me living in Australia the exchange rate makes building decent computers quite expensive. with that in mind i have ordered my parts and they are coming next week. Any information would be helpful, Thanks! Here are the specs: CPU: i5 6500 GPU: Gigabyte r9 280x PSU: Silverstone strider 600w HDD: Seagate 1TB SSHD SSD: OCZ trion 120gb RAM: Geil super luce 2x4gb ddr4 2400mhz Blue LED MOBO: Asrock-h110m-hdv CASE: Silverstone ps11

does BLCK overclocking only work on the z170 chipset?

I am on a strict budget, the 6500 would push it. ( 6500 - $295, 4670k - $230 ) would the benefits still outway me pushing my budget?
-
i have both options, the 6500 being more expensive. But is it worth having ddr4 RAM support and the generally newer architecture over the 4670k? p.s. the 6500 would exceed my budget
-
@dragoon20005 Weirdly enough, the haswell i5's are more expensive then the Skylake i5's over here.
-
@JebKerman Looks good, unfortunately for me shipping would be another $32 but i will look into it thanks!

@JebKerman Maximum $700

Hey LTT community, This Christmas i will be experiencing my first pc build. In Australia the prices for tech are outrageous. Therefore a $400 build in the US is a $700 build over here. e.g. a gtx 970 can cost up to $450 With that in mind i have a strict budget and this is what i have come up with CPU: I3 6100 3.7ghz GPU: Gigabyte r9 280x ( Already bought ) SSD: OCZ Trion 100 120gb HDD: WD Blue 1TB MOBO: Asrock h110m-HDV LGA1151 PSU: Silverstone Strider plus 600w 80+ bronze RAM: GeIL Super Luce 2x4gb ddr4 CASE: Silverstone ps11 This is literally all i could afford as the cheapest 6th gen i5 over here is $295. The I3 is $170. Keep in mind i grabbed the r9 280x for $190 instead of ~300. What do you think of this build, and my main concern being will the i3 bottleneck the r9 280x???? Thanks in advance, Squigg
-
Yes you are right the i5 does have stronger cores compared go the FX chip, but i doubt it will bottleneck a r9 280x

True! however in Australia atm the i5 4590 costs $269 and the i5 4460 is $255. So it wouldn't help the price gap that much.
