  1. I was debating whether or not I should pick these up from Amazon since they were on sale for 106 but I knew that they had gone for 90 in the past. Good thing I saw this, thanks.
  2. Linus actually already covered this specific card, and others like it: An analogy that he used in one of the comments (that I wished he had used in the video itself)
  3. This video circa 2013 explains most of his issues centering around the mandatory Google+ integration. EDIT: Ninja'd by @Ren It essentially boils down to this:
  4. What I'm saying is if the disparity was so great that I needed to cancel my order, it would have been best to know two days ago when I first commented about it. But I know I done goofed, as I purchased it without checking back first, I should not have assumed that "no news is good news", and quite frankly .I should have assumed that there were some corners cut based on the information available on each product. Well to be fair, of the people who gave specific recommendations @brob is only one who took the fact that I said energy efficiency is important to me into account. I'm not saying that anyone recommended a bad product, they just left that little bit out. I did a bit. HardOCP said that it was "good enough", and that it was competitive based on the price point when comparing it to other 650W PSUs. I will keep that in mind going forward, thanks. Anyway, this is really neither here nor there. I have all of my core components pretty much locked in (regrettably), so this thread can probably be locked as well. Thank you everyone for your input, it has been a tremendous help.
  5. LOL, now you tell me Well, I went with it because even at base price it would be at least 5$ less than the SeaSonic SSR-550RM, and with the MIR it was like 3$ cheaper than the XFX P1-550B-BEFX (with its own MIR), plus it had more raw wattage, more SATA power connectors, a warranty that was twice as long as either of the others, and decent user reviews... so it just looked like the best investment (at that point I would have considered it even if it was the most expensive option). Chalk it up to ignorance, I just know very little about PSU construction.* For future reference, what is a better way of separating the wheat from the chaff? *Seriously, no snarkiness intended. If either of the other two is a better product then I made the wrong decision, simple as that. Um, sorry? When I made the OP I was still using the default WYSISYG editor, and I was copy/pasting things with wildly different fonts, sizes and colors. Then, when I was trying to force everything to one single font, Comic Sans MS was simply the first one I clicked on.
  6. 128 GB. Why do you ask? Well, that ship has already sailed. I actually did look at the XFX P1-550B-BEFX, but like I said I ultimately decided on the EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W.
  7. Sorry, I forgot to update! Definitely the right call. I like to be environmentally conscience, but literally twice the price of PSUs with comparable wattage is just asking to much. I went ahead and got the EVGA Supernova 650 G1 for a total of 65. This is what I am looking into at the moment. The 300R is a great suggestion. I already bought the XFX R9 290 for a total of 250 Honestly, I'm a special features junkie. I'm one of those people who likes to turn watching a single movie into an all-night event. Hey, at least I admit I have a problem. That MOBO is a great find, thanks. I should have been more explicit in my OP. I have a bunch of HDDs scattered around, and I was hoping that this would be an opportunity to consolidate them. So the S340 does not have enough 3.5" bays. Also, the rest of my hippy family would probably shun me if I didn't invest in a more efficient PSU.
  8. Hey there. Long-time lurker, first-time poster, and I was hoping you guys could help me out since got my tax returns last week, and they are enough for essentially a full system overhaul. Budget: < 900$ Buying from: USA Goal: Basically what the title says. Best possible graphics on a vanilla 1080p, 16:9, 60Hz monitor. Gaming habits: I've probably put the most aggregate hours into Gamebyro engine games, specifically Fallout: New Vegas and Skyrim. I also clock in plenty of hours on League of Legends and Team Fortress 2, as they are the games that have the largest install base in my group of friends. Probably the most demanding game that I am planning to play with any regularity is Total War: Rome II, as I adored the first one. I suppose it would be nice to get the most out of PCSX2, but I use it pretty infrequently. Besides, it looked decent enough using my olde AMD Phenom II 1100T and HD 6850. Other intensive tasks: Honestly, the only thing that I can think of is that I used to do some commissioned work editing largeish (~200-500 page) PDFs in Adobe Acrobat, and trying to export 2 at a time would cause pretty severe system slowdowns. I would have to be in pretty dire financial straits to go back to that though, it was the worst 'job' I have ever done. 90% of my computer use will consist of: Steam + video game + browser (with ~7 tabs open) + maybe some other misc program like foobar2000. So without any further ado, here is my WIP: Original I already have all of the peripherals I will need, several HDDs and an SSD that I have salvaged, and multiple Windows 7 install disks. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read all of this. Even the smallest bit of advice is appreciated.
  9. IIRC, only the black version of the Bitfenix Prodigy has the full mesh front panel. The semi-consensus at release was that the ventilation "strips" on the coloured versions not did not provide enough airflow for the front intake fan. Also, there were some poeple who said that trying to fit a modular PSU was a pain.
