Hello everyone, I have been planning a total PC build for the past 4 months now and it has finally come time to start ordering components. I have all of my parts already chosen, but I am stuck on the subject of a graphics card. This GPU will be paired with an Intel i7-6700k, and will be living it's life displaying at 1440p 60hz. Now I have been looking at some comparisons and I have hit a wall. The 390x is an amazing card, and the 980ti is also likewise, however; which would be better in the long run. I do know that vram can be an issue when playing at resolutions higher than 1080p, so would the 390x be a better candidate over the 980ti? I don't really favor a side, but with the power consumption and heat output of the 390x, it kinda pushes me away. On the other hand the price of the 980ti I am planning to get hurts. Thanks Guys! ~Musical Moose Parts List: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/damoose26/saved/FLZCmG 390x of interest: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202147&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

X99 Gaming/College Build: Looking for extra opinions.

True true. I'll definitely look into that type of solution. Thanks! -
X99 Gaming/College Build: Looking for extra opinions.
MusicalMoose replied to MusicalMoose's topic in New Builds and Planning
I did some research and the main CAD suite I am working with now and plan to be is Autodesk Inventor. An LGA1150 build or X99 would run it well. Currently I can run most CAD suites on my laptop, but my ears and solder joints don't like it. -

I never really considered an itx build, but you make sense. Would heat buildup in such a small space be an issue with that? -

I apologize for the format, here's the link. (It's been a while.) http://pcpartpicker.com/p/KpGKTW -
Hello everyone! I am back after a few month hiatus. Earlier in the year I made a few posts for advice on some builds, and about 4 months later I still haven't build anything. Okay so let's get into it. Situation: I am a working 17 year old (USA) and I will be attending college next year for Engineering/CAD. Along with that, I am an avid PC gamer. Now I currently have a Sony Vaio E Series (ya I know.. lol) packing an Intel i7 and AMD/ATI(Listed as ATI on my end ) 7670m Hybrid switchable graphics. This currently is my main unit and runs decently well (except my USB 3.0 ports recently broke, figures.) Plan: I am aware that X99 is not the best gaming platform as games currently like fewer faster cores; just putting that out there. I want this to be my main unit for CAD usage and gaming. My budget is capped at 1700 on PC part picker, but I plan to purchase solely from New Egg for reasons of shipping (New Jersey resident= like 2 day cheap shipping.) With shipping I am hoping to keep it as close to 1700 as possible. CPU Cooler: The h60i is more than sufficient for my overclocking needs. I would love to go with a dual 140mm rad but, costs are key right now. MOBO: Cheapest X99 board you can buy right now and it's got pretty damn solid ram capabilities and dependability. Memory: Cheap and works. 16 GB is my sweet spot right now. Storage: I went with this drive for the speed and capacity to price. It has great storage capabilities and is crazy fast. GPU: I would much rather get the Sapphire R9 290x but it's out of stock. This card is my placeholder at the moment, but if it is superior for the money it will stay. Case: The Define R5 is an amazing value, and with the windowed version it will look great too. PSU: The Corsair RM 850 is a good power supply but I may need more for overclocking. Monitor: At the moment it is a good value and has good reviews. IPS, 4 ms response time, and 60 Hz should be sufficient for now and could be a nice upgrade to 4k or 1440p in the future. All priced put this comes to $1,713 USD. If I could drop that price, I would be ecstatic. I may have to drop to LGA1150, but even then I should be fine for my plan. I wanted X99 for the extra cores and future support as Skylake is being released soon. (Not familiar with the target for Skylake, more research will ensue.) Anyway I apologize for the long post but thank you in advance! ~Musical Moose

H240x or H220x Still available?
MusicalMoose replied to MusicalMoose's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
Oh well that seems more do-able. I was expecting like $350+ USD.. I'll have to look into that more, however I feel like that would still be more of an upgrade type of project. I feel as I would wreck my GPUs somehow while in the process of installing the water blocks.. -

Thanks for responding! Just looked and I found one H240x. They have literally one in stock... That sucks..... -
H240x or H220x Still available?
MusicalMoose replied to MusicalMoose's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
Thanks for responding! Very true, but to my knowledge a full loop can get pretty damn pricey. (This is going to sound odd but..) My plans to upgrade to a full loop probably would be in the next two years or so. So I thought I could grab a 220x or 240x in the hopes of adding my GPUs(and maybe a few radiators if my case can accommodate them) to the loop along with another pump to give the permanent one a boost. I'm still weighing options, like the new H100i GTX, and searching for availability. -
Hey guys, I've been looking around at components to build my own custom PC for a while, and I ran into a wall. A while ago I watched a review on the H220x that Linus did and I loved it. Great pump, simple reservoir, and most of all it is EXPANDABLE(to a certain point I assume..); so I did some more research and I found the H240x as well, and I though that I could sneak one of those into my build for cpu cooling and possibly a full loop as an upgrade(although my planned build isn't hugely up-gradable in the future). So my issue is that is it still available, and if not are there any other expandable options by Swiftech or another reputable brand? Thanks Guys. P.S: The case I plan to build in the Corsair 760t. Thanks, ~MusicalMoose

(Sorry I couldn't Respond in a timely manner, got smashed with stuff the past couple days...) Thanks for the SSD Link! I was looking for a better SSD but with their prices like sky high, finding a decently priced 240GB is hard. On the subject of my case. The case you had linked I had chosen in the beginning when I first started putting components together but I went with the Enthoo Luxe for the LEDs (I'm a scrub I know...), the internal shielding for the PSU, and for cable management purposes. (Air flow as well but ya.) I am still doing research on the components I should put in this machine, so we will see what I choose as the final product!

I just finished doing some research and changing some parts on my list and my build is pretty damn close to that configuration. Mine however on has 8Gbs of ram but I have a better water cooler. Ya it threw me off when I saw it. Ya buying at the right time will be vital for this build since I have limited funds. Hopefully when I go to start buying parts (When ever that is..) but the research continues! I just noticed how freaking expensive x99 motherboards and DDR4 ram.... Like holy crap...

Ya looking for sales will be a big part of this. I am hoping to get a few Asus components in this build, but I am unsure of where (I'll have to look that that motherboard tonight if it is X99 compatible.) Just looked into the motherboard. It's cool but not manufactured anymore?...and not the right socket. But more research to to!)
