  1. So I took the list BurgerBum used and changed some stuff based on prices here in Switzerland. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/gR7rhM Alternatively this one with a NUC PC: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FyGBYJ http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/nuc/nuc-kit-nuc5i3ryk.html what do you guys think?
  2. ty! I will look into some micro ATX cases then. Does anyone have experience with mini-PCs such as the nuc? I would like to compare them a bit before I opt for either one.
  3. thanks guys. I like the PC you put together. Good to know that the FX platform is already outdated. I definitely want something that could last a long time. Does anyone know any NUC like PCs in the same price region that I could compare it too?
  4. Hey everyone I'm looking to put together a new PC for my parents. The main thing I am looking for is relability i.e. I don't to have to change anything for the next couple of years. The usage won't be for anything intensive. Mostly emails and office stuff. I was thinking of either making a cheep custom pc or buying a mini-pc such as a NUC from Intel. I was hoping to use it with Windows 7 since they are familar with the UI (which is a big deal once you get older...). Price for the hardware should be upto 500 USD (I'm Swiss though so I can't really benefit from good deals overseas) it doesnt need to be 500 but I think in this case that should be more than enough. Also I am opting for a single SSD for the OS and then using a small NAS for the backup. Here an example for a custom build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ppBkyc I chose the expensive SSD b/c of the 10y warranty. I was also thinking the overkill CPU should be good enough for many years as well. I'd appreciate any input and especially keep in mind the longevity and stability of the components. TY! PS: I have all the peripherials and software so I am soley looking for hardware.
  5. ty guys. I will looking to buying a new GPU then. Of the R9 280 is there a seller that stands out? There are so many For RAM: I can't find afforable 4x3 kits. Should I maybe but a 2x8 (they are even cheaper) and forfeit the Tri-channel. I think 2x8 would also be smarter for future upgrades (new MoB) since 3x4 could be quite limiting for slot options.
  6. Hello everyone I built this PC about 5 years ago and have been happy with it so far. I am just wondering if there would be a way to upgrade my system without too much cost (say upto 300USD). I mostly play FPS games and I would be glad if I'd have more and stable fps (esp. in CS:GO). Also I would like to upgrade it in a way so that a later major change would not render all components useless due to compatibility issues. Here are my specs: Intel Core i7 920 @2.67 D0 (OC 3.3) Foxconn Flaming Blade GTI, Intel X58, LGA 1366, CFX http://www.foxconnchannel.com/ProductDetail.aspx?T=motherboard&U=en-us0000458 PoV GTX-260 896MB DDR3, 216SP, 55nm Kingston ValueRAM (3x, 2GB, DDR3-1333, DIMM 240) OCZ SSD Vertex 3 120GB 2.5" Some random 500GB HDD Be Quiet! Straight Power BQT E6-600W 80plus Cooler Master RC-690-KKN1-GP My first thought was upgrading the RAM since I've run into some issues when playing and browsing at the same time. My MoB only seems to support 12GB of Memory and its tri-channel so should I just buy a cheap 3x4GB set? For the FPS I don't really know what the limiting factor is. Is it definitely the graphics cards and if so would OC help? I have a moderate overclock with (700/1509/1220) already... In CS:GO I get about 90fps while playing on 1920x1200. I'm thankful for any advice
