  1. Well I assume it would cost about the same as a plain headunit, plus it brings two off my hobbies together and could be all kinds of fun.
  2. Hey, so here is my story. I recently purchased a cool new summer truck. It is a great vehicle, minus the sound system. The deck/head unit feels like it is from 20 years ago, and it sounds like crap all around. So why no put in some new speakers, a sub, and a new head unit? Well I fell in love with the touch screen,Bluetooth, phone thing head unit in the car i had rented. Upon some research, the hardware alone to do a touch screen deck with things like hands free calls and gps would cost me 800-1000$ from the local car audio store (Canadian BTW.) At first I was thinking my phone can already do all of that, but then I found windows 7/8 2dins. It could theoretically get internet access through my phone(3gnetwork) or wifi. I could get things like Google, Google Maps, Youtube, and a endless source of bad ideas to look at while driving. Here is what I found. Yes, I know, It is not supposed to be used while driving. Well maybe the passenger. "no officer, I am not playing Minecraft while driving." "Do you know how ridiculous you sound right now?" http://e3io.com/mini-itx-double-din-car-pc The base model is 1000$ USD. It includes no OS, no shipping outside the US. and only a 1 year warranty. Then the adult side of me comes out, "Hey I spent that much on my gaming PC." And I found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERI3rrz4UY4 I would consider my self a novice when it comes to PC builds, but i have worked on vehicles my whole life. So yeah I think I want to build one my self (kinda like in the first link.) I am left with all kinds of questions, from hardware, to software, to an inverter (if it even needs one.) Maybe I should go with the pre-made one, or just a regular vehicle 2din. I am going to do a lot more research on how to build it, how to include local radio / hands free calls, windows vs. Linux ect. ect. Maybe a Pokemon emulator. Maybe have it control a Parrot AR Drone that docks in the bed of the truck? I would appreciate all help, advice and to be talked out of doing this. Thanks,
  3. Thanks for your help i just installed a new 120gb samsung sdd. I installed windows 7 everyting works great except my laptop cannot detect its internal speakers. I partitioned off 50gb with the windows manager and am waiting for ubuntu 12.4 to download now. Also purchased a coolermaster cooling pad for cheap, i picked that one because you can move the 2 fans anywere you want. Thanks agian, now to figure out how to fix my speakers and install ubuntu.
  4. Would it be possible have have both windows and Linux on the same drive, and have them boot individually depending on what i would want to use the laptop for? If so what would would be a good storage size assuming i would not install very much onto it?
  5. Well all i have is my main rig 3770k 7950 16gb ect. ect, but i dont want to use that. Then i have my laptop(VISTA) AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile RM-74 4GB Ram 300GBHDD. I would like to use that but i keep getting server overload errors. Im thinking the hardwear should be enough, but for what ever reason it has *32 java and lots of other *32 programs that shouldnt be there. The windows installer/downloader is all kinda of currupted so i cant even fix it with out alot of work im not sure i want to even do. Im thinking of just ripping out the HDD and installing a new 128GB SSD with a new copy of windows 7 or 8 (havent done any reasearch on 8 yet) Im thinking the new os would fix all those errors as well as free up alot of RAM, and well a SSD is a SSD! Im not 100% sure what do at at this point.
  6. Well now Im confused. my laptops has a AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile RM-74 4GB Ram That looks very similar to your build. So shouldn't it work? I know my OS(vista) is half corrupt and swimming with all kinda of errors. Do you think a new SSD with linux would fix things? Maybe some kind of dual boot?
  7. Well i tried using my laptop to do this but it pretty much had a nervous breakdown. cpu 100% fans maxed and a lot of overload errors. My main rig needs to be shutdown and that kinda defeats the purpose of a minecraft server.
  8. well 500$ is the most id spend, but think it can be done for alot less. Its really just a casual side project. 1tb would be more then enough space. Im not worried about any peripherals.
  9. So i am wanting to build a rig to host a 10 player FTB minecraft world. I have no experience in this area, Ive only ever done gaming rigs, so i have no idea were to start. I would also like to use as a NAS as well, also no clue. My would like it to be very small, quiet and inexpensive. Ive heard that SSDs make minecraft chunks load fast. If that's true some kinda raid or cashing setup would be amazing. As for the NAS part of the build, it would be more less just for swapping files in between multiple computers. I'm not all that worried about losing data. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. All hardware, software including an OS suggestions will help a lot. I really have only done gaming builds before, so I haven't got a clue. Thanks.
  10. Thats pretty awesome. I have been interested in doing something similar, but im a big car guy so if everything isn`t realistic its gunna bug me to no end. I have never found a setup where you could actually clutch and shift proper :( What games are you playing? Ive kinda stopped playing racing games because all the newer titles don't have car customization, and that's a deal breaker for me. Love to hear more and see those pictures!
  11. I love to add rune casting & that silent casting perk. After they take a few arrows and see you, booom! Even then how in the world is a stealth archer OP?
  12. So when ever my friends and I try to LAN a game like CIV4, Diablo2, AOE, i end up wanting to offer up a sacrifice to apease the LAN gods, so they can make all the games work together. I will end up wasting hours fixing things like patches, firewalls, router errors, installing games and excersising all the voodoo magic. Anyways i was wondering what if any solutions there are to fix this. I had one idea to have these games installed on one of those wireless harddrives and have everyone play off the drive itself. I have had people play D2 and Civ4 directly off of external drives before but have no idea if its possible to use it with more people (up to 4). Would this trick even work on wifi? would I need multiple copys of the same game on this drive? Am I absolutly crazy? Each and every piece of advice would be much appreciated, Thanks!
  13. So with the new Legendary mode, ive brought out my favorite heavy hitter (and still losing horribly). Anyways I was courious what others consider the best build. Orc- berserker rage is the best Heavy Armor Block- spellbreaker is a boss shield, also will make that huge guy with the 1 hit kill two handed weapon flinch. One handed Sword Smithing Enchanting Alchemy
  14. I think you should just do it. Personally I would vote for a Minecrack FTB server. Im happy to help too, just dont have a whole lot of experience with servers and what not.
