I'm looking at getting a used/refurbished DSLR in the £200-300 range including a basic lens, any thoughts.

I have my eye on a pentax k50 as it is much better value for money than what I can get from nikon and you can get cheap primes off ebay, but I would be interested to know your opinion.

I am really not a Pentax fan, but perhaps that is just me

You could look into Sony Alpha cameras, you can get Minolta glass of ebay for dirt cheap! like I got my 50 f1.8 and 70-200 F4 for £100 total for both

Id still argue getting a D3200 or something to be better in the long run

The sony alpha 58 looks like another option, and it's similar to the pentax k50.
