I Have been folding now for about a week. And of course immediately started to think ways to improve the folding performance.
Back in mining boom late 2014 I also mined quite bit. And of course tried to find the best performance for mining. That is where I come across this thread:

These are BIOSes for AMD 290/x with Hyndix and Elpida memory tweaked to mine faster and more effectively. The increase in mining was drastic. Since the folding and the mining use the same kind of calculation I figured that because I still have Stilt BIOS in the second BIOS place, I flip the switch and tried Folding.
I fold with Asus reference 290X W/ Corsair H80i(Linus zip tie Ghetto mount+ couple of screws just in case : )and 2500K With the original BIOS PPD showed ~190K-220k. With The Stilt 1.1Volt bios PPD is sitting in the 310K-330K according the FAH Advanced Control. While the temperatures went from 67C to 60C.
That's 50-70% gain in performance, 7 degree drop in temperature and ~50 watt drop from the wall according Kill-a-watt. With just the BIOS! Still haven't tried overclocking. The card should go higher than normally, due to the lower heat dissipation.
The drawback is that if I want to game I do have to restart the machine and flip the switch to original bios or lose some 50% of gaming performance due to the disabled ROP's.
There are also mining calibrated BIOSes from The Stilt to the 280/x and 7900. These can be found from here:

I don't own 280/x and cannot test these BIOSes.
Please read the threads carefully before flashing anything!!!! Wrong voltage bios in poorly cooled card can kill it! Stilt explanation is great while determing the right BIOS.
I have tested this bios now ~24h without a problem. Results are valid and no crashes.
