  1. Do any of you have experience with the Ubiquiti UniFi line of products? I am considering going that route with the hardware.
  2. I will look into this, and how I can run conduit in existing walls, might be a pain, but sounds like it might be worth it. Thank you
  3. I have looked everywhere for QoS setting in the Linksys "Smart Wifi" interface for my router where I change all of my settings, but I haven't been able to find anything, I will keep looking and keep you posted. **EDIT** DUDE! I found out that the "media prioritization" setting in router is what QoS is called on my router, I turned it off and my speed went from 300mbps to 871mbps! Thank you so much! Thank you
  4. I didn't think my router was underpowered when I bought it, it's a Linksys Max-Stream AC5400 (EA9500) but if it is underpowered what should I look for? I am thinking I will go unmanaged for switch. I am now leaning towards Cat6a. I would like as fast a connection bad possible between my Apple TV, & Nvidia Shield to my Synology DS918+ that I am using as Plex server. Thank you!
  5. I am definitely going to look into putting in the conduit instead of just running cables, thank you!
  6. My router is a Linksys Max-Stream AC5400 Budget will probably be whatever it needs to be to get it done right, if I need to wait a little longer to buy something but it allows it to be correct that's what I will do, but for example I don't want to spend $1,000 on a switch if there is no real reason. Should I get a managed switch? I do have a Synology DS918+ that I mainly use for as Plex server, and I'd like to eventually have all of my movies on, and currently Nvidia shield can handle streaming from it just fine but apple TV no longer can for some reason, which is one of the reasons I want to have wired network. I don't have a HUGE home so I guess Cat6a might be good enough. I really appreciate all of the help from everyone!!!
  7. Hi everyone! I hope everyone is healthy and distancing. I would like to hard wire network my home. I have been looking into this for years at this point, but I think possibly by this winter I want to pull the trigger and do it, so I have a lot of time between now and then to buy what I need. I live in southern Texas, so doing it now is out of the question do to the heat in my attic. I'd like to run my cables through my attic and down my walls to my PC, my sons PC, my NAS, Nvidia shield, apple TV, PS4, Xbox One, and wireless router. I am fairly new to networking apart from setting up my wifi routers, and a switch confuses me, I don't understand what it means when its said that the switch creates networks and the router connects the different networks. Question #1 Do I go from modem, to router, to switch or from modem, to switch, to router? I have seen both suggested. Question #2 What is a good switch to get? I'd like at least gigabit, I would say 10 gigabit but I don't think any items on my network have a 10 gigabit connection. Question #3 Is there even a point to 10 gigabit? Would that allow items to connect to my internet better or just to each other better? I know from LTT's video "Home 10 Gig Network Upgrade for CHEAP" that 10 gigabit is somewhat affordable, albeit not cheap. Would having that "room to breathe" in network allow better net connection? I am getting gigabit speed from ISP, so I know that having a 10 gigabit network won't magically give me a 10 gigabit internet connection(that would be awesome though). Question #4 What is a good switch to get? I was looking at some Linksys ones, since that is what I have usually had for routers, and current router is a Linksys(Max-Stream AC5400), but I just want a good one. Question #5 I can afford Cat8 cable from pricing I have found, and I'd like to future proof this network, so is there a reason to not get Cat8? Question #6 My modem is a Arris Surfboard SB8200 and I am paying for gigabit from my ISP(Grande), can anyone tell me why when I connect my PC directly to the modem I get basically the full gigabit but when my PC is connected through router, which is all on same desk my speeds are usually 300mbps or less.
  8. Alright so I finally ordered all of my components for my ncase M1 build, but I have an issue. I am going to populate my case with 4 Noctua NF-F12 PWM fans, two on the side and two on the bottom. I would like for these fans to be controlled by my MOBO but it only has 2 fan headers one for CPU and one for whatever. Now I was wondering if I were to just get a PWM splitter, from Noctua for example, I know it only gets RPM signal from one of the fans, does that mean then that both fans will run at whatever RPM MOBO sets the one fan it can communicate with to? http://pcpartpicker.com/list/qFFGPs
  9. Ok so I have already purchased my ncase m1 and have received it. Now I am still on the fence about a lot of the internal components, specifically the psu. I was originally going to get the Silverstone SX700-LPT but the reviews appear to be extremely mixed, and on Newegg it only has 2 reviews and both are negative. I am also worried about clearance for the MSI GTX 1080 that I want to install because I have seen where people say that the cables coming out of PSU push down on the GPUs. So the other option is maybe the Silverstone SX600-G but I run into the same issues with people saying they fail quickly and it's incredibly noisy etc etc. Does anyone have experience with either one of these PSU and this case? In addition has anyone bothered to see if they can get shorter cables from cablemods that accommodate cleaner cable runs? I want to get the Z170I GAMING PRO AC motherboard. By the way I am also considering the Corsair SF600 PSU, but worry about the SFX-L issue. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/qFFGPs
  10. Oh man! Thanks! I didn't think of doing that! Geez do I feel dumb!
  11. Well Yes since i forgot to mention I wanted the TKL
  12. Does anyone know who's selling them? I have checked all legitimate retailers and a couple questionable and all anyone has are blue and brown Cherry MX, I had to make sure ROCCAT does indeed offer it in a red and black variant!
  13. We used to play Minecraft ALL THE TIME until 1.8 update was released! That update killed the LAN. Not in the sense that they removed the feature, but rather in the sense that it no longer works! 1.8.1 was supposed to fix it, but it didn't.
  14. Ok so recently I built a computer for my son since I wanted him to join the master race and he is now old enough to play games with me in multiplayer, but it seems things are not as simple as the used to be. Back story back in 2003 I moved away from my friends because of dad's job and since then have been mainly playing single player games, or flat out online multiplayer, not LAN, or anything similar, and have not been paying attention to that "scene" whatsoever. Now I had battlefield 3 before, and during these holidays it went to $1 so I thought it would be great to get that for him so we can play together just him and I until he's good enough to join the rest of us on the field. WELL there in lies my problem, is LAN a thing of the past for modern games?! Is there LAN in COD?! I mean there isn't LAN in CS:GO but I can host my own game for just friends without a paid dedicated server. I was just wondering if I am just dumb and am missing something here. I mean GTA IV has LAN, that's a pretty modern game, I understand that GTA V won't because it's not "GTA V multiplayer" it is "GTA Online." What modern games still offer LAN? Assassin's Creed? Splinter Cell? Starcraft II? Crysis? Far Cry 3 & 4? Ok so just FYI I do have over 250 games on Steam, & Origin but a very small hard drive so I have only have a handful installed at a time, and I don't want to install games and buy games for him only to find out we can't play together.
  15. Ok so I have had my same keyboard since 2003 which is a very basic "Logitech Access Keyboard." I had had the same Logitech G1000 since then as well but my lab puppy decided that it was way too much fun putting it in his mouth and eventually it was one wet lab mouth ride too many. I am very strongly considering getting ROCCAT Tyon, and a ROCCAT Ryos MK Pro, BUT the ROCCAT Ryos only has blue backlighting and as I am sure ALL of us have noticed by now RGB is definitely the way to go! Does anyone know if ROCCAT plans on releasing a mechanical RGB keyboard, specifically one that is as amazing as the Ryos seems? I say that because I have not actually experienced the Ryos. I am 98% sold on ROCCAT peripherals though, they just seem fantastic aesthetically and functionally, and will more than likely be ordering a Tyon in the next 20min. I know that the benefits of matching peripherals is slim, but there are def some, and certainly enough to make me want to match them. In the past I have been a very firm believer and supporter of Logitech, but I have very recently not liked the direction their G gear has taken, which kinda sucks since right now is when I am in the market. Please if anyone knows anything it would be greatly appreciated! At this point I am going to order my Tyon and simply wait for my keyboard, but if anyone for example knows for sure ROCCAT is not releasing RGB mechanical then that might be a deal breaker. I wish ROCCAT would have gotten the exclusive MX RGB switches instead of Corsair.
