  1. The PSU he is using for the PC is a 600 watt psu (forget the actual name) so we wasn't gonna use an old PSU to run it, it just hadn't come in with the rest of the parts and we wanted to try an post it with one we had on hand in the office. The problem is fixed so no worries. I was just being stupid.
  2. Okay thank you guys. a senior technician in the office corrected my mistake sorry
  3. So a friend of mine is posting his new PC consisting of a skylake i5 6500, and an msi b150 gaming m3 motherboard, a single stick (don't ask why, it just is) 8GB hyperx fury ddr4 memory. We cannot find a powersupply at our workplace that had a 24 pin + a 8 pin connector. just a 24-pin. I'm wondering if we will even need an extra 8-pin in order to post the PC. My friend argues otherwise. the CPU is clocked @ 3.2 GHz. is the extra 8-pin needed or can we post with just a 24 pin?
  4. It's quite simple really so I don't know why I'm having so much trouble, I just got a new computer (first gaming one actually, fistpumps excitedly) and I have a 120GB SSD for a boot drive & a 1TB HDD for mass storage....and that's the way I want to keep it, however after downloading a few games and pictures etc. etc. most files are still going to the SSD I tried moving the files and they just keep getting reinstalled to the SSD, I tried moving the Programs(86) file and well....lets say I had some trouble even getting a fresh re-install to work. I tried watching these videos to help remedy the problem yet I still can't figure out what to do https://youtu.be/vizA8GkvT5I & https://youtu.be/qMo8krAJd5Q . For one: they click on properties and get a "libraries" tab they can redirect the files to. However I get this (picture hopefully below) a bunch of tabs that don't really help me at all. The one guy I watched even said he was running windows 8.1 (likewise with me) yet the "libraries" tab shows up for him and not me. so the questions are this: How can I choose where I want all my files to go and where do I find that setting? I've already searched the forums but none really seem to match the predicament I'm in. Any help is appreciated, however I would like a solid concrete answer from someone who either had this problem or is extremely knowledged in this area. I mean no offense by this I just don't want to wreck something by listening to another "suggestion" I've had way too many headaches from those lately
  5. 21:9 would be great for watching movies or racing games and the like, however not all games support the 21:9 aspect ratio, aaannd it's expensive as all get out. pretty, but not practical. definitely go with a 16:9. just be careful about backlight bleeding.
  6. I would use it for my up & coming new build, I would like a decent gaming mouse (cuz I'm on wireless at the moment) but if I don't get it than i'll just buy an EVGA torq x10 carbon. although having a mouse from FinalMouse might give me a reason to recommend it's services. Hmmm...intriguing indeed.
  7. Ah okay, it makes sense I guess, I would like to know your findings when you test those out if that's okay. yes I'm fairly new thank you, i'll check those out when I get the time.
  8. This question is pretty self explanatory, I'm curious if a server grade computer (powered by xeons, ecc memory, the whole works) is good for rendering long video projects over a typical gaming rig (say I dunno i5 cpu 8GB ddr3 and all that stuff)? I don't have plans to build one anytime in the next decade but the idea sparks my interest. I didn't see anything in the forums about this so I thought it safe to post. Is there any benefit to having a server grade PC as a dedicated render farm over a normal one?
  9. I'm not that educated on this matter but from a basic consumer standpoint wireless is great for Watching movies or videos as you can move freely about the room with no annoying wires to get in the way. Also if you go wired at least have a stand or someplace to hang them, it's a mistake you only make once (speaking from experience) As for wired it would be better if you want to use the audio to locate enemy players accurately and they don't require you to keep feeding them batteries, (nothing worse then having your headset die in the middle of a match) if sound matters that much than get something with at least surround sound. I have the turtlebeach earforce p11 which do wonders for me. Just my humble opinion, hope this helped.
  10. Does that mean the don't come with any or are you saying you don't like them? just need a little clarifying.
  11. It's definitely cheeper, and i'll give you props for the windforce card I totally forgot about that. though I went with the strix because I heard the fans only turned on when needed. is that something I should still consider? (if the windforce does the same thing I'm going to smack myself in the forehead ) As for the case, yes I know it's not the best as there are multiple choices that would be "better" define R5 being one possibility, however the mechatron is the only case besides the level 10 gt snow edition that really speaks to me ya know? and I am not dropping $200 on just a case so the aerocool is staying for now. Thanks nonetheless for all the insight.
  12. it does need work, but on what front? I am trying to future proof & put as much horsepower into it as much as humanly possible.
  13. I was looking more into performance than scheme, I need to get around to that though. all red and black is what I was originally aiming for, ROG style in a sense. the aftermarket thermal paste is for the aftermarket cooler, unless they come with some already and I'm just stupid. My intentions for the build are for heavy gaming/recording/editing. I'm just starting out with this stuff so I'm still quite new to the game. Also the red motherboard was changed from the green Ga-G1.sniper M5 from gigabyte. I figured it didn't really look that well with color. I guess half the reason for all the mismatched parts is I'm trying to keep it under $1900
  14. I am currently researching on how to make an excellent PC & I have all the parts I want, but I want to replace the stock case fans with both silent & performance fans. I was thinking something from Noctua would do the trick but those are really expensive, so I figured the best place to get an answer is the famous linustech forums. I would like to know what 120mm are the best in performance & really quite at the same time. (You can check out the build here if it helps in making a decision http://pcpartpicker.com/p/w4nW7P )
