  1. i powered down and reseated all the RAM again, and now they are all showing up have resolved all of the issues and cranked some basic OC settings and letting Prime95 run overnight. fingers crossed thanks for the help!
  2. THanks for the replies. @Dimwitted, i did consider backtracking once i realized i had a 1Tb C: drive, but I'm too far along now with system config considering the tradeoff. Now my remaining problem is getting the system to recognize all 32Gb of memory. I can't seem to figure out how to resolve. I read a few tips saying to go into MSCONFIG->Boot->Advanced->Memory Max setting but it will not allow me to set it higher than the default Max setting of 24576, which leads me to believe either 2 of my sticks are being recognized as 4Gb or one of them not being recognized entirely Using Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB (4x8GB) DDR3 2400 MHz (PC3-19200) and followed the recommendations in the manual as to which slots to use (dark grey)
  3. Thanks EF. With that bit of knowledge I will start working on the next two challenges with more confidence. Appreciate the quick response.
  4. I'm new to the forums, so first, hellow everyone, and hopefully this is the appropriate place to post this inquiry. I just got done bolting together a slightly modified version of the "Ultimate 4k gaming PC" after watching Linus' video and reading a bunch of this groups downstream debate and recommendations. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/166464-parts-list-for-ultimate-4k-gaming-pc-build-guide/ Everything went smoothly for the most part, and now I'm at the point where I've got all latest drivers installed and Win7 installed from USB, but having a few nagging problems I'm working to diagnose and correct before investing more time getting it setup correctly in case I have to backtrack, and hoping for some help. First of which - I opted for 2 Samsung SSD Evo 840 SSDs insteak of the recommended SSDs from Linus' build (http://www.ncixus.com/products/?sku=87762&vpn=MZ-7TE500BW&manufacture=Samsung%20Memory%20%26%20Storage)%C2'> I configured them in Raid 0, and was expecting when seeing the drive to have a total of 500Gb of space spanned between the two drives, but am actually seeing 931Gb, meaning I have the capacity of both drives, and now I'm wondering if I missed a step or setting in the raid config, or i just don't know enough about Raid 0 to know that is what I should expect. I'm new to RAID setups (except in theory), and expected if I were going for read/write performance over storage volume, I expected RAID 0 to absorb capacity of the 2nd driver in exchange for striped read/write across both 500Gb drives. I don't want to invest more time in setup if I will have to start over to get that correct. Second - I installed 32Gb of Corsaid Platinum DDR3 2400 Mhz RAM, but the early windows install seems to be only seeing 24Gb of it. I have found a few threads directing me to msconfig to play with some settings to correct, but haven't tried it yet since I'm focused on the above as critical path. Last - once I have resolved the above, I intend to attempt my first overclock, and have found a few guides for how to go about it, but anyone that has one specific to my config (videos are great!) that would be hugely helpful. BIOS on my X79 is 0701 out of the box. Latest version is 0902, but online docs seem to indicate any BIOS version over 0401 will support OC for my chip. (having trouble with flashing the BIOS as well, doesn't seem to recognize the .CAB file in root dir of USB - nothing happens, so i gave up given this detail. I have gotten the tools recommended to bang on the system that were recommended, most of which i will be using for the first time as well ( Asus X79 Deluxe MB Intel i7 4930k chip Cooler Master V1000 PSU Corsaid Hydro H110 Liquid Cooler 2 x EVGA GTW980 SC ACX2 in SLI
