  1. The pricing difference here of the i7 K and the non K version is about $40usd Not much but if i were to get the K processor, means i have the get a z97 board and then a better cooling system. All these various little upgrades to support the K processor would cost me an extra $250usd. If it brings about noticeable performance, i don't mind but if it doesn't, i would rather use that money to get myself a nice speakers/headset or a better monitor.
  2. Yes i be getting a samsung 840 evo 256gb, pairing it with a 1tb WD blue! As for OCing, the cost doesn't justify the performance imo and usually only less than 5fps increase, if not none. I will be able to save a couple of hundred should i not go OC and spend that on a better monitor. The only reason why I want a better cooling is i live in a tropical country, room temps are crazy over 30 in afternoons and i be gaming in a non-airconditioned area. Is there any gamer oriented non OC motherboard that are worthy for my consideration?
  3. Hey sdatta I be getting my parts from either PCTHEMES or trade-pac. I already got the psu and GPU from lazada. Crazy sales over there btw. As for the SF psu, though i haven had first hand experience but reviews are impressive to boot. Corsair watercooling performance is decent but it takes off like a jet plane (my friend has a h100) plus the fans aren't that good. Compared to the CM NEPTON 240M. What are everybody's opinions about OCing for gaming? I just feel the performance gain doesn't justify the cost and games are gpu dependent mostly rather than cpu, unless u are a mmo/civ player. Bottom line: Should one OC for gaming?
  4. Because Singapore weather is pretty humid and hot (30 degrees room temp in any afternoons) + I will be gaming in an non airconditioned area. So I figured.
  5. I am about to build a new gaming PC, not intending to OC as the cost doesn't justify the performance gain and besides, i will only be gaming, no video/graphic production, only slight photoshop and indesign. Please critic my build and comment because I want to have the best value for 1440p gaming. Motherboard & CPU: Gigabyte H97-D3H + i7 4790 GPU: MSI GTX970 4G Gaming Ram: G skill 8gb 1600mhz kit or any reputable 8gb kit PSU: SF LEADEX 650w GOLD F.M (you guys might not hear it in the state but its pretty popular here in singapore, gold standard 80+ rated) Cooler: Phanteks PH-TC14PE or noctua NH-D15 AIR COOLED / H60 corsair if going liquid cooled Casing: Phanteks enthoo pro Monitor: DELL U2515H If there's any area that I overkilled or lacking in, please comment! Thank you very much!!
  6. so you mean to say my current rig connection to router stays, and I can get a powerline adaptor kit for my 2nd rig? 1 Cat5 cable from router to powerline adaptor 1 -> 2nd Cat5 cable from Rig 2 to powerline adaptor 2. Am I correct? So both powerline and network switch method are suitable?
  7. Yes I could, my router has like 4 to 5 ports but its far away and I can't shift it closer to my PCs due to ISP port and wiring constraints. Can the network switch solve my problem of establishing 2 wired connections? Right now, my current rig is directly connected to the router and that cable is being run around the house to my rig. If I get a network switch and place it near my rigs, am I right to say I should use that particular cable to connect to the switch, which would create an uplink connection between the switch and router. After which, I would need 2 more CAT5 cables to connect my 2 rigs to the switch. Is this the correct set up?
  8. I am about to build a new gaming rig which makes my home to a total of 2 desktops. I intend to go wired connection on both of my rigs because wired connections are better for gaming in general. Things would be easy if my router is near the PCs which I can just direct connect to my 2nd rig, but unfortunately, no. And I do not want my cable to run through the living room to connect. Question is: How to I establish 2 wired connections to the internet without moving the router closer to the PCs? Will a network switch help? INTERNET <------> Router <------> Network switch <------> RIG 1 <------> RIG 2
  9. xnoobtw, nice to see a fellow sg bro here in linus! Probably getting at sls, pctheme/mynextcom, whichever got the best price or (lazada for GPU, great discounts there on monday.) Any recommendations? thanks alot for the heads up Member! Now that you mentioned, I checked Nepton 240M and from the pics, the fan does look really solid! But its 30$ more here, Shouldn't be a problem, changing fans on the Nepton 280L would cost more, might as well get the 240M! On a side note, avexir core series ram got some really nice looking RGB LED action going. Not sure about the performance tho.
  10. Thanks all for the prompt reply. I guess I will switch the psu out for the CM V700 Full modular. Is 8gb ram okay? About the ranger mobo.. really nice quality but is there any other mobos out there to consider?
  11. Hi all, I am looking to build a new gaming PC, have done my research and would like to seek additional advice. Thank you everybody! Budget & Location From Singapore, around SGD$2500 which is about $1.9k USD. Aim 1080p 60fps gaming on current games that varies from BF4, Dragonage: Inquisition, Far Cry 4 to Hearthstone, Heroes of the storm. And also able to take on games in the future such as GTA 5, Batman arkham knight. Besides that, my usage ranges from basic needs like watching movies, surfing net, music. occasional video capture from gaming, and light photoshop, AI, ID work. I am open to some form of light, medium overclocking even though its my first time to future proof my system in speed. If I were to summarize my aim, it would be Longevity, Gaming oriented & Reliability Monitors A 24" 1080p LED monitor, any one that is carries the best value. I don't need extreme features like 3D gaming/120hz monitor/4K support. Reliability, build quality is of importance here that is able to last prolonged hours and project vivid colours. Peripherals Yes, speakers optimised for gaming and multimedia entertainment. After much research, I have zone down to these few parts. Please advice whether I overkilled or its a decent build MOBO: ASUS MAXIMUS VII RANGER + CPU: Intel i7 4790K GPU: MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4GB DDR5 RAM: G.SKILL RIPJAWS-X 1600MHZ ( 8GBx2pcs ) CL9 Liquid Cooler: Cooler Master Nepton 280L OR C.M SEIDON 240M WATERCOOLING PSU: Superflower LEADEX 750w GOLD F.M Casing: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe/Pro Storage: Samsung 250gb EVO SSD + 1TB WD Blue Monitor: DELL 23.8" U2414H Some questions about my build.. 16gb ram.. seems overkill to me as most games now don't even hit 6gb.. Other than build quality, does the ranger vii brings about greater performance to justify its cost? any other alternatives that I can consider.. Would a 600W PSU be sufficient to power said build and OC? All comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated!
