  1. Hey guys, I'm looking for a fast and easy way to restore my HDD to its factory defaults (wipe all of the data and get rid of all partitions or merge all of them in to 1) I could do these things separately, I guess, I'm just curious to see if some1 knows a way to do all of that combined even faster or easier. If you've got some neat ideas, please share. Thanks in advance. P.S. This HDD is quite old now, it has been used for all kinds of stuff and there's all kinds of trash on it left from previous windows installations and what not. Windows installation won't let me merge partitions, only lets me format. That's what made me dig a better possible solution.
  2. Unfortunately that's not the case for me. I've tested it and it's not only in cs go.
  3. Hey errybody. So my USB Headset (HP Premium Digital Headset...with no drivers in this universe) has it's audio channels swapped. Left is right and right is left since I bought them, i just never noticed it before I bought CS GO and I found this issue out. (I put them the right way in case you wonder ) I really can't think of any way to swap the channels. It really only bothers me when playing CS GO since hearing footsteps is important there and I have to always think of the oposite direction when I hear an enemy running/shooting. I can technicaly try wearing them the wrong way, but that makes the sound different and weird due to their ergonomics i guess and I refuse to deal with it. Also the mic won't go the wrong way, it does, but not completely. Their sound and mic quality is good that's why I want to keep them. Any ideas on how to swap the audio channels? Aside from wearing them reversed. P.S. The cord is fine even though I've ran over it with the chair a billion times and the usb plug is fine too (not that these things could swap audio channels anyways). Phisicaly they are alright, I think it's all software/firmware problem. They act the same on other machines too, so it's not the computer.
  4. Thanks for making everything nice and clear. It's all guchi now, you don't have to look for that program. Thanks again!
  5. Hey guys! Basicaly I want my SSD (OS+programs) to never turn off when idle and my mechanical HDD (games+media) to turn off after being idle for some time. The goal is to increase the lifespan of my old mechanical HDD, without turning off my SSD. I let my pc run for the whole day everyday and sometimes over night when it has to get the job done (rendering, maintanance tasks...) The reason I'm asking for help is because windows' power saving fatures don't let you to selectively mark drives to sleep, it turns all of them off when idle. If you know any tweak, program or w/e to make this a real thing, please share with me! Also if you think it's a bad call, let me know. As far as I know SSDs are fine, since there's no mechanical parts that can wear off, however though mech HDDs spin all the time and that shreks them. P.S. My HDD is a WD Green 500gb Intellipower rpm, I heard that the green series slow down when idle, but I'm not sure if that's true.
  6. Ay thanks for the response man, looks like this pretty much wraps it up.
  7. First of all thanks for the reply im afraid though that you didn't fully understand my question, but that might be just because of me explaining like an idiot. Anyways, "higher data rate = more load on the cpu" so therefore my (slower) external hdd should use even less cpu than the (faster) internal one or the ssd is what I understand. If so then awesome! Thanks
  8. It's been a while since I got the Intel 520 and it actually supports TRIM and works like a charm. Considering I've got only sata 2 on my old mobo and the rest of my parts aren't anywhere near top tier. thx for the replies though!
  9. Hey guys! So my question is pretty simple (i think so ) and it popped in my head after sb told me that "you need a faster cpu to play games normaly off of a slow hdd". (which is questionable imo and sounds like illuminati stuff since as far as I know it would affect only loading times..) So I was wondering if CPU usage would be higher when playing (music or movies or games even) off of an external HDD (usb 2.0; 5400rpm) instead of my SSD (intel 520) for example or my internal HDD (WD green; sata 2, intellipower rpm (w/e that is)). Basicaly I want to decrease the disk usage of my internal drives by using my external hdd or even flash drives for playing media files. But if this guy is right and CPU usage is higher when pulling off of a slower drive, then it's not worth it, since I've got a crappy CPU. Any knowladge is welcome and pls don't judge my potato tech skills. P.S. i don't store my crap on the SSD, it's for boot and programs only and my internal hdd is for the rest (music, movies, games)
  10. So I'm thinking about getting a SSD mainly for a boot drive, snag my OS and programs there too. The qustion is, shall I save up a bit more money and then get a SSD with TRIM, or just go ahead and get a cheaper one - without TRIM? Because I red that SSD's without TRIM slow down over time when they have to delete old data and overwrite it... I'm currently looking at Intel 520 series 128gb. I'm going to plug it in a SATA 2 connector, (my mobo doesn't support SATA 3 *QQ* even though it's pretty solid Gigabyte UltraDurable series) So will I feel the slowdown really if the SSD does not support TRIM? It will already be capped by the connector, since SATA 2 has a 300mb/s limit... Give me your opinions I'm on a budget, so the lower the price - the better. P.S. I mostly play games, listen to music, watch streams and download stuff...not really into video editing or any kind of heavy tasks...just tired of my current HDD which slows down the entire pc when multitasking...
  11. Ty for the info, now I get it. So I'll be just fine with the cheaper one - less cache.
  12. Hi, so I'm planning on getting a new HDD for Xmas this year. (can't really afford any good SSD, so that qustion's out ) What is HDD's cache for? Does it affect performance? Does it really matter how much I have? Does it somehow scale with the size of the HDD? Is it worth the extra money for more hdd cache? tons of qustions, i know. I did some research, but found many contradictory answers and it kind of just generated more new question, rather than answered the current ones... I just wonder If I can get a cheaper HDD (WD Blue 1TB, 7200 rpm, 8mb cache) or It's better to go for a bit more expensive one - (everything is same, but with more cache). Advises are very welcome! Help me choose, I'm on a budget so If I would gain 0 performance with more cache, I'd rather stick to the cheaper one. Note: I'm running out of space, so my plan is to get a big HDD to store all my games and stuff, and have only my OS and programs installed on my current one which is WD Green 500gb, intellipower rpm (which as far as I know is somewhere between 5400 and 7200, not sure though) and 32mb cache. It works just fine, slows me down only when playing+downloading+moving data around...which is normal i guess...
  13. Hey everyone! My name is "noob" and I ask for help So here's my confusion - when I plug my external hdd into any usb port, and lets say I play music from it, does it go through the internal hdd aswell, or it has nothing to do with it? I'm confused since It makes sense to me if the data from the usb drive has to go through the internal hdd on its way. I know that I can easily turn my external hdd into an internal one by removing its cover and connecting it to a sata port, but aside from the superior speed, do I gain any other advantages? I hope you get my point and any info is welcome P.S. It's my first time posting on this forum so don't sue me for probably not doing it right...
