  1. Yeah, from what I've looked at, only some of the latest gen hardware natively supports it. I was however able to get my hands on an older system running a 2.3GHz Intel Dual core, among other pretty terrible specs. Running Windows 7, I got great playback on VLC with a range of high to low bitrate HEVC media. Considering this, I'd say it's safe to assume the Pentium will handle it just fine. When I get the system up, I'll post results.
  2. Well the GPU I'm planning on using is the Gigabyte GeForce 9600- a pretty old card, but it's all I've got right now. You think it'll handle H.265?
  3. I'm building a HTPC/NAS, on a budget of ~$500AUD, and I've picked out the Intel Pentium G3260 for it's price and clockspeed. It's only a dual core and since we're dealing with pretty heavy decompression, a quad core would be very beneficial, but not practical given the budget constraints. My main concern is that a fair bit of my media right now is encoded with H.265 (a number I see growing in the coming years), and I want to get an idea of how the Pentium will handle it. Does anyone have experience with dual cores and HEVC? Any help would be great.
  4. Yeah I was considering that. The main reason I went with the N200 is it's fan filters and mounts are ideal for what I have at the moment, and good for airflow- I'm trying to keep it on the quiet side.
  5. Hey, just looking for some feedback for a HTPC/NAS system I'm building; haven't been in the PC building game for a few, and thought I might get a second opinion. Basically, I'm building a relatively cheap (~$500 AUD) system that can store quite a large volume of data and then serve this to the network, as well as play media directly to the TV. Here's a rundown of the parts: CPU | $75 | Pentium G3260 Dual Core 3.3GHz GPU | $0 | Oldish gigabyte card, 2x DVI Storage | $199 | WD Blue 4 TB, going to buy another a bit later, 4TB is enough for now PSU | $79 | Corsair VS550 550W Case | $65 | Cooler Master N200 Motherboard | $98 | Asus B85M-F OS | $0 | Debian RAM | $0 | Old DDR3 2x4 GB kit Monitor | $0 | TV / Generic 1080p Peripherals | $0 | Mouse and keyboard, nothing special Misc. PCI | $0 | Gigabit network adapter PCI 1x Total: $516 AUD Pretty much, any constructive criticism or general feedback you have would be great.
  6. Well I have found the answer to my problems. I recently did a safe boot, and forgot to revert the settings, thus it didn't properly install the device. So, I reverted the settings and restarted my computer, and it worked fine. Thanks for your answers all the same.
  7. Nope, this was one of the first things I tried, it didn't work.
  8. I've tried both USB 2 and 3. What do you mean, 'serial'. Also I have checked the support page and I've done everything there to no avail. It could be that it is labeling it as generic USB device and not a microphone, however, I don't know how I would solve that.
  9. I've recently purchased a Blue Snowball microphone and have been trying to set it up, to no avail. I've already looked at my audio settings, and the microphone is not being recognised. I then went into devices manager and found it under 'other devices'. Now it shouldn't need drivers, it's supposedly plug 'n' play. If someone could give me an idea of what is wrong, that would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  10. Thanks for the replies, I've decided on getting a blue snowball and the aforementioned headphones. Much appreciated!
  11. Hi, I'm currently shopping for a new headset. After trying a friends Audio Technica ATH-M40FS, I've decided I'll get that. The only problem with this, is that it doesn't have a microphone. I am currently considering getting either a ModMic or a standalone mic. I know the ModMic can be purchased for around $40, but I just wanted to see what people thought about that compared to a relatively cheap, standalone mic. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  12. Hi Currently I am trying to connect to my network on my Chromebook. I am fine getting into the network config, (menu with network submask, ip, router, etc) however the option to change the settings, that is normally there, isn't. If someone could tell me why this is happening, or what I am doing wrong, then that would be great. If you have any queries about my problem, then feel free to ask. Thanks, Ryan.
  13. Because it is a case from an oldish computer that I didn't actually build; more inherited, I am not sure, however, it supports ATX motherboards and is made by Coolermaster. I have a copy of Windows 8 that I would use for the server OS.
  14. Well a few things about that. When I attempt to configure my updates, it always fails, so I am pretty sure that is why I can't see Windows 8.1 in the store. I've also run WSReset.exe and nothing happened when I restarted my computer. I am thinking about just buying Windows 8 again and replacing the current version installed.
  15. Yeah I got windows 8 only a while after release and after checking all of the pages that currently exist on this topic, I have been unable to find it in the store. I think Microsoft's whole approach to this has just been crap from the start.
